  1. Sitting in a Manhattan bar, playing bar trivia and trying to watch the game at the same time. As soon as that ball call was made on Judge and before I could say anything, my Yankee fan friend turned to me and said, “When you are good, you get the calls.”
  2. Exactly. Some real baseball veterans were saying at the time that he turned the DP better than anyone they’d seen. I believe that shows up in Twins statistics for 1976. Liked the guy a lot and was happy to read of his later coaching career.
  3. Even as we can agree to disagree on the extent of Joe Jackson’s guilt, we do agree that the judicial system is “dramatically different” today where Jackson would have his own lawyer. He would not be coached by the White Sox lawyers whose interest was to protect club owner Charles Comiskey and quite likely conceal Jackson’s attempts to tell Comiskey what he knew.
  4. Time to really consider Joe Jackson. There are still holes in establishing his guilt, and we are learning more about false confessions in modern times. Some of these issues are raised in the afterword of this play: https://www.amazon.com/AINT-SO-Shoeless-Jacksons-Story/dp/B08HQ92WYY
  5. Thanks, also, from me . Glad I forgot to tune in (Yankees radio for me).
  6. Was at Yankee Stadium for that one, so, yes, I’ve seen a lot of miserable games against the Yankees that go back more than 20 years. At least the perfect game was a novelty…
  7. Correa certainly realizes he is the leader on the field; I think the problem was that he thought he could act as general manager, as well. I don’t mean this to be snarky, as I agree with what was said here…
  8. Good for you! I live in NYC and have made the very, very long day trip—for Rodney, Kirby, Bert, and Tony and Kitty. That’s been about 10 years apart, so I’d be breaking my streak going back so soon. Yes, it is very, very crowded and you normally park outside the town and take shuttle buses everywhere. Then you sit in the hot sun for hours during the ceremony. It is fun, though, meeting fans from everywhere.
  9. And yet, they are “favorite Twins” for a lot of us.
  10. Ooo, GarvSauce!
  11. Mentioned the Ex-Twin part on the broadcast.
  12. Totally agree with the above, but, yes, I’m feeling the similarity in having both a sprarkplug who produces (Lewis), leadership (Correa), and starting pitching.
  13. Viola and Blyleven and pray to heaven. I was hoping things would be different this year. And they will be.
  14. This past weekend I visited my friends in Vermont. I’ve only had the chance to visit them about once a decade, but when I was there I thought, “This is where I watched the Laudner to Gaetti pickoff in ‘87.” So, yes, of course it was on my mind with the Gray to Correa play!
  15. Jorge! Always the guy you want up there in the clutch.
  16. Same experience here. For me, I’ve discovered, it is not the end of the world at all. It can even disappear for about a year, and I do play pick-up sports. I hope that’s true for CC.
  17. Didn’t see it, but Mets radio broadcasters said that Polanco’s shovel wasn’t on line.
  18. Royce Lewis is already “the very dangerous Royce Lewis” to the Mets radio broadcasters.
  19. A staggering number of players have been both Twins and Mets over the decades (a good trivia question), but I don’t see this one happening.
  20. Had to leave for an hour of volunteer work with C4’s DP in the 12th. Came back dreading what I would find. Well, pleasant surprise. Have a good night everyone.
