Could Royce Lewis Benefit From a Minor League Reset?
Bodie replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
MLB play is at a level that no one will be successful playing at less than max effort. Any retired player will tell you exactly that. Current ones are too scared of being labeled trouble maker to tell the truth! 90% effort to save your "health points" not only leaves you with almost no production, but in the end a beat up player hated by his teams fan base because he dogs it. It ain't a video game -,it is elite athletes going all out in a dog eat dog world. Play at less than max effort and some kid will be along shortly to take your job. And on a competently run team it will be very soon! -
Methinks that FlyingFinn has far too much time on his hands... hope you used some of it to catch last night's game. I fell asleep at 4-1, with a fresh pot of coffees. Woke up at 3am to good Twins news, but at 3am!

Who really wants another team's manager messing with the timing of their pitchers' schedule? Truly a wonder that anyone allows SPs to go to the ASG! Litlle birdie tells me Kyle Gibson will be the Devil Dogs' representative... Go Tampa! Also, count on Buxton getting his near annual mid season break - IL centered around the ASG - allowing him a short two week vacation while only missing a week of work.

If you can't run the bases due to injury, or the after affects, you belong on the DL. He isn't filling a Jim Thome role, he is supposedly an everyday player. If he is not an everyday player, trade him before everyone finds out he isn’t. This team, as currently constructed, cannot afford to have a plow horse slow DH/PH who cannot attempt to run all out - at least to save an out.

The vase (pronounced "vaaz", please) on my mantle is fragile. If I knock it down it'll break. Stewart doesn't need to be knocked down... enjoy him while you can!- 55 replies

You have just summed up "analytics" vs. "scouting". He wasn't "good" (on the Pablo scale), but "good enough". Everyone wants to be good, but the winners are always good enough.- 55 replies

Don't know that "regression" is the word I'd use. His ERA is fine, especially for the 3 or 4 guy out of the pen (which he is - Duran, Jax [eek!] and Columbe are undoubtedly ahead of him). He also allows far too many inherited runners to score. Even if he allowed every one to score, he could theoretically have a zero ERA. The runs are on the board, but his main stats are still quite nice. I'd try to get him in at the start of an inning, or at least with bases empty. Good to very good in his "expected" role (3rd or 4th reliever) but as a closer he'd be a paid endorser for Tums/Mylanta/Pepto Bismol.

Remember listening to game 7 of the '87 series. KGLO out of Mason City, Couldn't even come close to getting reception in the yard (electrical lines overhead + AM radio don't mix!) and I wasn't going to miss a second of the game. Kept driving in a 6 mile loop on gravel roads in my '68 Dodge. Until the gas ran out. Didn't start hiking for gas until the TWINS WERE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS. Was a pretty happy 17 year old.... almost as happy as I was about 4 years later as my birthday present was a pair of game 7 tickets on my 21st birthday. Thousands of hours of listening to Herb &Co. Wouldn't trade a second of it!

Couldn't be happier for Paddack. Had to feel great- maybe great enough to forget years of rehab and frustration, at least for a bit. See ya again in 5 days Chris. You've set some higher expectations...

Has Time Run Out For These Two Twins?
Bodie replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I often wonder when these sorts of articles (i.e. Lopez for reclamation project), if the national media has heard that this isn't the Minneapolis Millers, and it isn't the 1950's.... the Twins play in the same league as the Yankees, Dodgers et al. -
Has Time Run Out For These Two Twins?
Bodie replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You can get a projected AAA relief pitcher or 4th OF I suppose Tidied that up for you... but agree with your point. Any interest in either would be something in the area of "sign him to a minor league FA contract after he clears waivers" as opposed to giving up anyone they see as having a real future. In other words you're "trading" Edouard Julien for another team's version of Eddie... -
Liked the Bader signing when it happened. Thought we'd get quality defense and acceptable bat. Got that and more so far. Add in a bit of flair, and you've got a potential fan favorite. At least for the people willing to get off the "Twins too cheap" horse for every signing that isn't the number one free agent in that years class... As for France, he has saved close to another half dozen throwing errors by simply being an actual major league glove at 1B. Don't think any one thought we were getting prime Morneau, but looking at some of the posts here you'd have thought they'd signed current day Morneau! Adequate, which is more than I'd have expected from Larnach, Julien or Kirilloff (before his retirement announcement) all of whom were posited as "anyone can play 1B" solutions to the Twins having no viable 1B on the roster after Santana's free agent departure.
