  2. I'd rather have Lee competing at other positions, since I'm not sure about him staying at SS long term. With that said the alternatives on the FA market aren't providing an upgrade. Why waste whatever FA $$$ we have when it won't even upgrade the team. Let Lee & Culpepper compete for the spot in the Spring & if Culpepper needs more time in the minors than Fitzgerald is the backup until Culpepper is ready. Let's use whatever FA $$$ we have to sign O'Hearn at 1B.
  3. With the current players on the roster - short answer is Buxton. Below would be my lineups vs LHP Martin Keaschall Buxton Jeffers Wallner Lewis Lee 1b -? Roden vs RHP Martin Keaschall Buxton Wallner Jeffers Clemens Lewis Lee Roden If we added a FA 1B like O'Hearn that would boost both lineups & our bench.
  4. To me a plyer being "blocked" by another involves two good players & with good players there is usually a good solution. A recent example is a player that's been talked about as someone the Twins should trade for - Tyler Soderstrom. He came up as a Catcher, but the A's already had Langeliers so I guess you could say he was blocked. In reality Soderstrom didn't produce in his rookie season. He earned another chance the following season & was moved to 1B. This time he produced so he stayed in MLB. Then the A's drafted Nick Kurtz & he also produced & was promoted. Initially he didn't get a lot of PT, but still played & when he produced they found a way to get both him & Soderstrom in the lineup by moving Soderstrom to LF. The point of all of that, is if you produce teams will find a way for you to play.
  5. How does a player get blocked by a mediocre veteran. Either your good enough to take the playing time or your not. When players are presented with an opportunity it is on them to take advantage of it. I would tend to agree with the point on roster utilization - if you have 13 position players on the roster make sure they're all getting playing time so you know what you have.
  6. If it's a mediocre veteran that certainly isn't going to stop Culpepper, assuming he continues to prove himself. Anyways, as I said in my original post we don't know if they're rebuilding or competing. If they're rebuilding they have no need for any FA's of note. If they decided to compete I hope they wouldn't hold back on signing an FA who can help out, because of worry about "blocking" a prospect.
  7. If there good enough to push there way on to the roster then great, if not I'm not worried. Either way their not blocked. Whatever SS the Twins could sign as an upgrade isn't going to keep Culpepper from developing & if he keeps proving himself, playing for the Twins. Even if we signed Bichette (which there is no way we would) he wouldn't block Culpepper. If the Twins as a franchise ever get to the point where they have so much talent that we're blocking prospects that would be nice problem to have.
  8. We don't know what the Twins intentions are this year - are they in full rebuild or are they trying to compete? If the answer is rebuilding, then I hope they don't sign any free agents & see what they have internally. If they're trying to compete then at a minimum they need to upgrade SS & the bullpen through FA/trades. A couple of additional upgrades beyond that would be nice, but that may be hoping for too much. As for blocking players like Culpepper, Jenkins or Rodriguez. I'm not concerned about, when those players kick the door down, they'll get an opportunity.
  9. I would have liked Laweryson to slip through so we could see more. With that said he is a 27 year old reliever with all of 7 IP at the MLB level. In his 76 IP at AAA he had a WHIP north 1.4 & gave up 13 HR's. His numbers were a bit better at AA, but come on they can't keep everyone. I believe someone mentioned this earlier, relievers like him will be readily available throughout the off-season. He may have some success with the Angels & that would be great for him, but it still won't change the fact that the Twins made the right decision at this point.
  10. Seems like a big over reaction to introductory press conference. Maybe we should allow him to manage for a season before passing judgement. This is about what I expected in an introductory press conference.
  11. I like Soderstrom, he provides an impact bat for our lineup. He could play 1B though the A's moved him to LF so Kurtz could play 1B & he played well defensively in LF (a GG finalist in LF) so he also provides flexibility. I think it's possible we could get more than than him for Ryan, but I like the idea.
  12. No thanks on the trade offer in the article. In fact the Red Sox don't even look like a good fit. Why focus on the same teams when they can't offer what we need. A good trade partner for Joe Ryan is the A's, they have a lot of young talented, MLB ready position players & are or 1 or 2 pitchers away from being a contender for the playoffs. Hopefully, the FO looks for trade partners that can offer what we need.
  13. To me the Twins could easily have a winning team in '26. Of course that's if... 1. They don't bottom out the payroll 2. They keep at least one of Lopez & Ryan & hopefully both 3. They address the high leverage roles in the bullpen 4. They address the starting SS position Other upgrades would be nice, but the above list is already asking for more than I believe they'll be willing to do. The issue is we have to rely the ownership & the FO & it's hard to believe they will at this point. The only silver lining in my mind is Falvey's job has to be on the line & he has to know it. So at least from his perspective there should be incentive to win in '26. Of course the owners still call the shots with the player payroll so it may not matter.
  14. We had previously discussed the A's & I like Soderstrom as a young hitter, he could step in as our starting 1B. IMO Joe Ryan gets us more than Soderstrom. I like where you're going because as mentioned before, the A's should be a good trade partner for the Twins if we move either Lopez or Ryan. With all of the talented young position players they have & likely only 1 or 2 pitchers away it seems to be a good match. Who knows what the Twins FO is thinking though. Maybe they're looking to compete in '26, which is actually what I'd like to see. If they can invest in the on field product they're not nearly as far away from being competitive as many seem to think. Of course the ownership & FO don't inspire much confidence that they will spend & if they do, they'll make good decisions.
  15. For me #1 is easy - Greg Gagne. After that it's closer - 2. Smalley 3. Versailles 4. Correa 5. Guzman
  16. As someone said above I hope not. No interest at all in signing Hoskins.
  17. Unless a good offer comes in for Wallner, this isn't even a question? He is the starting RF until someone takes that job from him. If Emma or Jenkins or anyone really steps up & proves to be a better option then they should move him to DH or trade him. Until then he is the starting RF.
  18. If the Twins consider moving Ryan they should be looking at teams like the A's who are loaded with young MLB position player talent & need pitching. Yet we hear teams like the Mets & the Red Sox mentioned even though they seem like poor fits for a Ryan trade. Who knows what our front office thinks though.
  19. While I agree the Mets aren't going to trade McLean (therefore the Mets are out IMO). It's a stretch to call McLean a proven MLB pitcher after 48 IP. He certainly looks promising, but 48 IP doesn't scream proven MLB pitcher.
  20. Kyle Schwarber barely plays in the field any more. They play Castellanos over him who put up a -12 OAA this year in RF. In Kyle Schwarber's last two seasons that he played in the OF he was -18 & -19 OAA. Matt Wallner has been -2 in each of his last two seasons. That comp is off by a long ways. When someone like Emma, Jenkins or anyone (Roden or another prospect) kicks the door down & proves to be a better option, then they should move Wallner to DH or trade him. Until that point Wallner is the best option we have in RF. Hopefully, Buxton has another healthy season in CF & Martin continues his stellar play from the last two months. An outfield of Buxton, Martin & Wallner is not going to keep the Twins from winning games. They have work to do in the IF & bullpen, but that's not for this discussion.
  21. The deadline deals did two things they reduced payroll and added additional prospects to our system. If we keep both Lopez & Ryan our player payroll will still be at it's lowest point in many years so the financial side has already been addressed. If we trade one or both of them what do we get? More prospects & the possibility of a lost season (or 2 or more) with fan loyalty already at a low point. IMO trading either one is unnecessary, & a big risk of further alienating the fan base. With a small investment on the position player side & revamping the bullpen they could put a competitive team on the field. It's the Pohlad's we're talking about & they decided to "right size" the payroll when fan excitement was at it's highest in recent years so who knows what they're thinking. Falvey is the one who should be pushing to keep both & add some talent since his job has to be the next one on the line if things don't improve.
  22. IMO the biggest infield need is at SS. There are affordable options out there. My pick would be a deal for Jose Caballero, contractually he should be reasonably priced & with the Yankees he's likely a backup/utility player with Volpe the starter at SS. Adding his speed & defense & utilizing Lee in a utility role & giving reps at 3B in a competition with Lewis would be a boost.
  23. If the Twins could get Jose Caballero I'd be happy with him as our everyday SS for the time being, From a contract standpoint he wouldn't be expensive & the Yankees probably don't view him as their starter with Volpe there.
  24. While I may not be in 100% agreement, have to love the optimism.
  25. I said it would be tough to rank him ahead of anyone. Oh and I did see the Ray Miller experience as you call it. Attended plenty of games back in the mid 80's. Rocco doesn't impress me in any way as a manager. If you disagree that's fine.
