  1. E-Rod for a reliever. I get that Bednar is good, but no way would I want the Twins to consider this. No interest in trading for Connor Joe at all. It sounds like the Guardians just traded Civale for a prospect. We can win the division with what we have. If we're not good enough as is then Bednar & Joe aren't going to be enough of a difference to help us win the division & in the playoffs. I hope the Twins stand pat or if they do anything add a reliever like Hernandez in KC if the cost is reasonable.
  2. If the Twins do anything at the deadline I'm hoping they take a look at the following... 1. Lane Thomas 2. Carlos Hernandez 3. Jordan Hicks
  3. Lane Thomas would be a great addition. Like everyone else just wonder about the cost. On the reliever side the pitcher I'd want is Hunter Harvey, but he's currently on the IL so don't think that's it. The other effective pitchers they have all seem to have walk issues, which the Twins tend to shy away from.
  4. I know the focus has been on improving the offense & justifiably so. We have seen some improvement with the players we have over the past few weeks. With that said if we can make a deal for Lane Thomas I'd be all for it since he isn't a rental, is good enough to be a starter going forward & has hammered LHP throughout his career & even more so this year. My main focus would be adding some bullpen help & two pitchers I hope the Twins look at are Jason Foley on Detroit & Carlos Hernandez on KC. Foley is having very nice year & his numbers show it so he may cost a bit more. Hernandez on the other hand has decent numbers, but has shown dramatic improvement in the area that had been his main issue - Walk rate. Hernandez is also controllable beyond this year so maybe the Royals don't deal him, but I'm sure they're listening.
  5. The best hitters in the game produce even with two strikes on them Luis Arraez slash line with 2 strikes - .338/.389/.384 Joey Gallo slash line with 2 strikes - .071/.176/.198 I know which one I'll take on my team every day.
  6. Agree. Would add - consistent playing time at the ML level. I can't see the Braves keeping a player like Matt Wallner at AAA while Gallo * Kepler eat up the AB's with ML team.
  7. Batting average tells an important part of the story so the title is incorrect. After reading through comments it sounds like you're looking for a more complete statistic & have settled on OPS. OPS is Ok, but it tends to favor power hitters, whereas a stat like wOBA seems to give a more complete picture. Currently, Luis Arraez wOBA is .398, Joey Gallo is at .374. So your comparison is fine, but for my money Arraez is more productive. The bottom line is if we offered Joey Gallo to the Marlins for Luis Arraez I'm pretty sure the Marlins would say no way.
  8. We have enough talent to be a contending team & yet we're not playing like it. In the field we play with a lack of awareness, making mental errors on a consistent basis. On offense we don't seem to have a plan at the plate or don't show any plate discipline. Opposing pitchers must rarely feel any pressure against this team because we don't force them to throw strikes & we don't get a lot of baserunners. Lack of execution. Management's reaction to these mental mistakes & extended slumps is too continue starting players & even bat them at or near the top of the lineup. A day off for someone who doesn't run full speed for a ball in the field, who doesn't run out a ball on offense or is in an extended slump isn't a bad thing. They're out of the lineup for a day & it sends a message & gives the player a chance to reset. Lack of urgency. The talent is there.
  9. These are great, makes it easy to keep up with a lot of information! Thanks
  10. I like the pitching matchups for the Twins in this series & I think offense will start to show some improvement. As noted in the article I hope we show up on Thursday. Prediction - Twins 2 - Padres 1.
  11. Kiriloff should be up already. There is playing time for anyone who can produce & he deserves an opportunity. There is no reason that he needs to be playing full time in St. Paul for a few weeks as he likely won't play full time when called up either. We need to have the 26 man roster that gives us the best chance to win.
  12. As frustrating as the last two games have been I can't agree with the doom & gloom regarding the Twins chances in the division. We have a talented enough team to win the division. With that said watching the games so far this season (for longer really) there is a recurring theme - lack of awareness, lack of execution & lack of urgency.
  13. I like Gordon & think he did prove something last year. The disappointing start (only 53 PA's) this this year is because he hasn't improved his plate discipline. If that doesn't improve pitchers won't give him anything good to hit. On the other hand if he were to improve that area he should be a productive player with the Twins or elsewhere.
  14. The best players need to play. With that said Gordon played well over an extended period of time last year & this year he hasn't seen much playing time. He's had all of 53 PA's this year after proving himself valuable in nearly 500 PA's last year. The one thing holding him back is plate discipline. If he figures that out he'll be a productive player, if not then it will be tough for him no matter where he goes as pitchers just won't give him good pitches to hit. If a decision needs to made in the near future IMO it would have Castro before Gordon.
  15. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that point as I believe fielding analytics are far from 100% accurate.
  16. The Marlins have said they're happy with his defense so I looked it up & see he hasn't made an error yet. He has limited range, but to make him out as an awful fielder when he has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage isn't accurate. Overall, we agree on the trade. I see no need to try to make Arraez look worse than he is, he's a good player & I still like the trade for the Twins.
  17. It may surprise you to see that Arraez has been doing very well at 2B this year defensively. All the attention, understandably so, is on his offensive production where he is still slashing .421 .482 .553. The bottom line is we traded a good ball player & got back and got back a good starting pitcher who we've now extended along with a couple of prospects. I still like the trade overall, but Arraez is a very good player & should continue to be a good player. You have to give up something good to get something good & I think this one of those trades where it works for both teams.
  18. To this point in the season this team is about what we expected. Very good pitching & defense & a questionable lineup that needs some people to step up. It's also very early, but with the pitching staff performing as expected I feel good about this team overall. As currently constructed there will be struggles on offense, but after we get into the season a bit more some of these hitters will come out of the slumps there in & changes can be made. IMO the offense is going to get better one way or another whether it's existing players getting going or younger players getting an opportunity and providing offense. If at the All Star break the offense is still struggling I think it will be easier to add a bat rather a SP or two like in previous seasons.
  19. There are many players players that contribute to team success. You can label them however you want & say certain players are core players. Why pick a random number - 4? As someone pointed out above Gene Larkin was a contributor, but doubt many would say he was core member of those teams. In '87 Viola & Blyleven were essential to the teams success & Gaetti, Bruno, Berenguer & others were huge. In '91 a few names emerged like Morris & Davis. In your Yankees example how would Bernie Williams be left out, Paul O'Neiil etc. On this years team the depth is more important than trying to come up with who the core players are, IMO. Regarding future seasons the key contributors can change season by season so I'll just be happy knowing we have players with potential to be good in the future combined with some quality veteran players who are signed over the next few years & a FO that seems willing to address shortcomings, for the most part.
  20. I know it's early so some of the struggling hitters will get better & our offense will be better. With that said watching this team right now makes me think same thing game after game... Lack of awareness, lack of execution & lack urgency. We make inexcusable mental mistakes & then the player who made them is not only in the lineup, but batting leadoff in the next game. We have a manager who feels it's perfectly OK to just throw away games. I'm not talking about the lineups, but the late game decisions in close games. Refusing to use Buxton (who was hitting at the time) in the 1-0 game in Miami, not allowing RP's to get more than 1 IP so you're forced to leave a struggling Moran in. Where is the urgency to win games regardless of what time of year it is. As a manager one of your primary responsibilities is to put your players in the best position to succeed. For me Rocco fails in this repeatedly.
  21. For roster moves this would be my guess Gallo - Julien Polanco - Castro Kiriloff - St. Paul until he forces his way onto the roster (hopefully this happens quickly) Farmer - Garlick Playing time should go to those are producing the most. Give all 13 a chance to work their way into more playing time, but the bulk of it needs to go to whomever is producing.
  22. We're only 12 games into the season, the team looks to me as expected - Very good pitching & D with a questionable offense that needs people to step up. I'm not overly concerned after 12 games & happy to see them at 8-4. If we can stop losing people on a daily basis due to injury that would help to.
  23. IMO it's way too early to evaluate this trade, but if you're going to at least base your evaluation on facts... Encarnacion-Strand is currently a minor leaguer with 208 PA's at AA & currently on the IL. Presently, his defense will limit him to 1B/DH Steer is in MLB & so far in his young career his OPS+ is 82. Hajjar is currently a minor league pitcher. How do any of these players currently look like productive MLB players? Mahle is clearly a productive MLB starting pitcher. Now of course those three could develop into something, but as of right now how can the Twins complain about this trade. Additionally, in our system we had multiple players ahead of both Strand-Encarnacion & Steer so the odds of them contributing at the MLB level here in the next couple of years were slim at best.
  24. We didn't get Gallo in the Arraez trade. He was signed a month before the trade. For me the trade was fine, you give something of value to get something of value & we got a couple of prospects.
