  1. I’ll watch as always but I can’t root for either of these big money teams. I absolutely despise the Yankees so I’m sure I’ll lean Dodgers when it comes down to it. 🤷🏻‍♂️
  2. This article cements my belief that they should not even consider moving Jax back to a starting role. He went from a failed started to a great relief pitcher. Cole Sands is another example. I’d like to see them do that more. I’m not entirely sold on Varland just yet but think he could be another success in the same vein. I’d prefer they look internally at more of those options. At least they have a strong history with these types of players from both development and medical.
  3. No. Jax is incredibly valuable to the bullpen. Rocco has and will continue to use him anywhere in the game to matchup with the opposition’s best hitters. We have plenty of young options coming up and there is no guarantee Jax would have any more success this time around as a starter. Let him continue to dominate from the bullpen!
  4. Thanks for the great recaps all season long, Nick. You do a great job of providing balanced coverage while still being a fan of the team. I’m extremely disappointed in the collapse over the last six weeks but will be back for more in the spring. We’ve got some nice young talent and I’m hopeful ownership will allow the FO to supplement instead of further cutting payroll. We’ve got five months to find out.
  5. This article is interesting food for thought. I love the Twins but am extremely frustrated this year. I like to think of my fandom as a partnership. I’m a season ticket holder and spend my money to support the team. In return I’d like to see the Ownership invest in the team and show the fans they are serious about winning. I’m not asking for top payroll spending in the league. Just show some self awareness. It was a slap in the face to fans and terrible business practice to throw cold water on the excitement around the most successful season in years. It was a prime example of why fans feel that ownership is truly all about making money over results. I’m going to the game on Sunday and I’ll be back next year. But I’ll continue to criticize the Twins not because I hate them but because I’m invested in them and love the team. And I don’t agree with your fan base comparison. The Timberwolves were so bad for so long there was apathy around them. There were some diehards but in general people didn’t hate on them because they couldn’t care less about them. The Vikings, and the NFL in general, are the kings of professional sports. They’ve made their sport relevant year round and the fans have followed. Fans complain plenty about the Vikes but they do generally watch regardless of the on field product. It also helps that football is just one game a week. Its easier to get hyped up for one day versus six out of seven like in baseball.
  6. Timing and perspective is interesting. If we’d scuffled along all season and then pulled it together to make a playoff push these last couple of weeks like the Tigers it might feel like a playoff atmosphere. But instead we’ve been sliding for so long it feels like this week is the inevitable conclusion of a major collapse. Sad.
  7. No truer article has been written on Twins Daily all season…
  8. I hate when we get to the point we’re wishing for a certain matchup by finishing poorly…just not so poorly as to miss the playoffs completely. Finish as strong and healthy as possible and push for the division. We have to beat them all eventually so get in to the dance and get after it!
  9. I agree that Festa is making an impact and is a possible replacement for Ryan. However, given his lack of experience, it remains to to be seen how he performs as the stakes get higher. He’s doing exactly what he should be doing as the team’s most MLB ready pitching prospect. We should expect to see some ups and downs in his performance and be okay with that. Hopefully he’ll be a rotation mainstay for the foreseeable future and continue to get better. I don’t understand the other comps at all. We can’t play two players at one post unless I’ve missed some rule change. Rocco will do what Rocco does with platooning and reason the matchups but he can’t do magic. Each player listed has their respective strengths but to combine their skill sets to find replacement for a lost player doesn’t compute for me.
  10. Exactly. Was this article written two months ago and just posted now? No problem with not so going either as it certainly gave us some more flexibility. We WERE setup and failed to do anything at the deadline.
  11. While I agree that he should have been viewed as more than a “throw in” when he was slated to be the fifth starter, there is little chance he was ever going to be this team’s third most trusted starter. If anyone was thinking that, we were not going to be taken seriously as a contender.
  12. Great breakdown. The big question for me is always the money. I’m happy to trade prospects for know big leaguers IF the ownership is willing to cover the cost of it turns out poorly. If the front office takes a big swing and misses how do they recover? Ownership hasn’t shown that they will go out and spend to correct the mistake. The Twins aren’t a small market team but they operated like one. Until ownership opens up the checkbook a little bit the front office will proceed with trades and FA signings with caution.
  13. Payroll flexibility is the big question. Are the Pohlad’s willing to spend some money at the deadline that might extend into future years? If so, then go get Blake Snell and pay the prospect capital required and you’ve got at least this year and next to win a World Series with a rotation that is near the top of the league. If we can’t add payroll then roll with what we have. We don’t need to dump salary to being in a 3-4 starter that might not be better than what SWR has given us. The lineup should be able to score enough runs to win.
  14. This is the kind of content that I really enjoy from TD. It’s great to follow the minor leaguers as they progress though the system. Watching the success that Matthews is having in rising through the system via these stories is great. Thanks TD!
  15. Excellent article, Hans. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this!
  16. Great article, John. You should think about writing for this site more often. 😁 I think it depends on how much faith they have in Julien or Lee to hit at the top of the order for the foreseeable future and where their trade value lies right now. They hit a small lottery ticket with Castro and should either attempt to sign him to a reasonable deal - $24 mil at 4 yrs - or trade him while his value is at its peak and bring up the young guys to let them fly.
  17. The one common thread in all of these “Let’s make a Deal” articles is that the authors mention the Twine tinkering with a pitcher to make him more effective. I’m not saying the Twins wouldn’t be able to take a different approach to unlock something but I doubt it’s going to take place in the half season leading up to the playoffs when they’ll need them most. I don’t think we’re close enough to be considered a contending team with the uneven season we’ve had so far. IF we are going to make a trade I think a mid rotation starter or better is really what we need right now. To get that we’re going to be looking at giving up a Jenkins, a Lee, a Rodriguez, a Lee or a combo of some of them. Unless the team has plans of increasing the payroll again in the coming seasons I see no way we can afford to trade prospects and pay big time pitchers that we haven’t developed. If we go on a tear for the next month and it looks like we’re one player away I’d consider a big name pitcher at that point and I’d be willing to pay for that pitcher in prospect capital.
  18. What about when they were in Bloomington at the Old Met? 🤔
  19. The only one I’d really consider right now is Margot. I’d prefer to see Austin Martin getting a long run. He wasn’t spectacular but was holding his own and bringing something different to the lineup. Depending on how Topa looks over his next few appearances I would imagine that Jackson is actually more likely to be let go. The FO has a history of juggling relievers and hanging on to the veteran position players. The rest on the list will have much longer leashes for varying reasons.
  20. Completely different body types could play into this too. Soto has a big frame that could lend itself to a more regular starter’s workload. I don’t mind using a little caution with the price of pitching but Raya has been a little overboard. I’d be satisfied with Soto getting his feet wet with four inning outings early in the season and ramping up to five to six by the end of his first year.
  21. Looking for Rocco to put a little trust in Martin and give him some significant AB’s to see what he has. I’d like to see him platooning at second and left and hitting in the nine hole to turn the lineup over.
  22. I think we’ve got enough depth to withstand injuries to every position except for starting pitching. I think Varland will be fine as the fifth starter and has plenty of upside. I just think it would have been much better to start him in triple A with a more seasoned, and healthy, option than DeSclafani on the big league squad.
