    When I heard the news the first thing I thought of (as a typical MN sports fan) was a potential injury or that the derby will mess up Buck’s swing. But I’ve also thoroughly enjoyed watching him this year. He’s having so much fun with the game and it’s great to see. I’m happy for him and glad that he’s taking the opportunity while it’s there. He’s peak Buck right now and we haven’t been able to enjoy him this much for a while. I’ll cheer for him on Monday and hope he does the Twins proud. And if he injures himself? We were trending towards selling at the deadline anyway. 😏

    After seeing Ober today I wouldn’t be surprised to see him hit the IL next. Our pitching depth is seriously being tested and I can’t see adding a starter unless it’s someone with multiple years of control. Depending on how the market looks I would expect the Twins to consider selling instead or certainly standing pat. I just don’t see them as buyers in any scenario.

    I appreciate what he has been able to provide for us and understand that it’s not sustainable. It would be nice if he settles in somewhere in between the two samples show and can be a productive bench player. If not I’ll just enjoy the ride and feel happy for him to had had a little run. Unfortunately the FO has had a bit of a knack for hanging on to these fringe players too long in many cases. As long as we don’t keep running him out there as a pseudo started with an 87 wRC+ when we have other options with higher ceiling potential to fill the spot I’m okay with it.

    The kid is still just 21 years old. I’m not moving him to the one just yet. I’d make sure there isn’t something physically or mentally wrong with him first. Is there something mechanical that has changed? Or is it the step up in competition? Let him play out the season as a starter and revisit the discussion in the offseason.

    While I’d much rather have a $20M first basemen that can mash and play solid defense, this is the choice the FO made for 1B and I’m satisfied with what he’s given the Twins for $1M. I don’t see a traditional 1B of the future in the system so unless they decide to sign a free agent it’s likely what we’ll get moving forward as well.

    No offense, but… That’s a terrible take. The Catholic Church is far from perfect and has certainly earned the right for criticism but to say the Church doesn’t help less fortunate people is patently false. Stick to baseball.

    I haven’t studied the 2018 draft but I’d like to see what came out of that draft that we “missed”. We can look at every draft by every team and find early picks that flamed out. I can hear the arguments about Greene vs. Lewis but after that it was mostly a crapshoot.

    I have no issues with this approach. The key info here is that he’s thrown 30 innings the last two years. Slowly ramp him up to see what he can handle and then hopefully we’ll see everything he’s capable of as a healthy pitcher.

    Even if France bounces back at the plate to 2022 numbers I’m not sure why he’s been anointed the starting first baseman. With France‘s defensive history. I’d much prefer to see Miranda get a crack at first and France get the majority of his AB’s at DH. If Miranda is average you’ve got a plan for the next couple of years.

    I don’t expect it to become the norm for him but I’m glad to see it might be a tool he’s willing to use again from time to time. More than anything I think it says he’s feeling healthy and confident in his body. Now if he starts running full speed on a fly towards the CF fence on a regular basis I might get a little nervous.

    I’ve been generally happy with this front office given the financial constraints that they’ve worked under. If any new owner is willing to put an additional $30 million into the payroll on a regular basis I’ll be happy. We’ll be able to compete and the level of consistency can be expected to be around 90 wins instead of 78-82.

    Great article. This is what the pitching pipeline is all about, right? They’re not all going to be top of the rotation pitchers but if you can develop them in bulk the hope is you’ll continue to fill out the rotation with quality pitchers, have some depth in case of injuries and have some ammo for trades when needed. No need for six pitches but I think if he adds the sinker as a successful pitch against righties he can scrap a less effective pitch or two from the mix.

    Seems like a solid signing. Maybe they can work a trade for Castellano and option him if they really like him. Option Varland as well especially if the plan is to keep him stretched out to at least begin the season.

    So in the scenario that Jeffers or Vasquez gets traded are you suggesting actually carrying three true catchers on the roster? Or would we be moving Cartaya and Camargo back and forth to AAA depending on how they are playing at the moment with Gasper being more of an emergency option? Keep them both and look for a trade to get another solid, young catcher to use for the foreseeable future. I understand we’re talking about giving up some big assets in a trade like that but then you can DFA or trade Camargo and Gaspar and keep Cartaya in AAA this year to get a good look at him.

    Thank you, Peter, for a look back at the Pohlads. I am definitely interested in reading the rest of your series. While I despise how the Pohlad family has chosen to run the Twins as a baseball team, I also have no personal experience with them as people. They may well deserve much of the criticism they receive on their business dealings and engaged in plenty of shady stuff. I understand the series is discussing how the family came into their money and how that intertwined with the Twins. However, simply speaking as a fan of the ballclub and how they’ve run their team, calling for someone to rot in hell seems a bit much. If people have been personally wronged by their business practices that’s another story altogether. I’m very excited that they are selling the team and hopeful the new owners have a love for baseball that the Pohlads have never shown.

    I like the Cartaya acquisition but the Twins shouldn’t rely on him as a backup option this season until they get a good inside look at him with their own people. There is no guarantee he didn’t show his true colors at AAA last year. If payroll isn’t going to be an issue right now I’d like to see them extend Jeffers and let Vasquez play out the season again in a timeshare. If Cartaya shows anything he can slot in as part of the tandem in 2026 or they can go shopping for another veteran.

    My preference is to leave Jax as an elite reliever. I just don’t think we can afford the risk this offseason that he might not make it as a starter. I see the Twins as a playoff team but only if everything goes right. A hole in the bullpen AND the rotation with a Jax failed conversion is a big miss. The other option I MIGHT consider is checking his market value to see if anyone is willing to overpay to make him a starter. At that point you’re likely planing for 2026 and beyond.

    Start the conversation with a minor league offer and ST invite. If the plan is to sign three guys the caliber of last year to fill the bullpen he’s worth a major league deal at $1.5-$2.0.
