So in the scenario that Jeffers or Vasquez gets traded are you suggesting actually carrying three true catchers on the roster? Or would we be moving Cartaya and Camargo back and forth to AAA depending on how they are playing at the moment with Gasper being more of an emergency option? Keep them both and look for a trade to get another solid, young catcher to use for the foreseeable future. I understand we’re talking about giving up some big assets in a trade like that but then you can DFA or trade Camargo and Gaspar and keep Cartaya in AAA this year to get a good look at him.

There's No Path to a Passing Grade for Twins' Offseason Moves No matter what they do, it’s hard to see a path to a grade above a C for this offseason. - Cody Last time I checked a C was a passing grade. At least it was for me!

Thank you, Peter, for a look back at the Pohlads. I am definitely interested in reading the rest of your series. While I despise how the Pohlad family has chosen to run the Twins as a baseball team, I also have no personal experience with them as people. They may well deserve much of the criticism they receive on their business dealings and engaged in plenty of shady stuff. I understand the series is discussing how the family came into their money and how that intertwined with the Twins. However, simply speaking as a fan of the ballclub and how they’ve run their team, calling for someone to rot in hell seems a bit much. If people have been personally wronged by their business practices that’s another story altogether. I’m very excited that they are selling the team and hopeful the new owners have a love for baseball that the Pohlads have never shown.

I like the Cartaya acquisition but the Twins shouldn’t rely on him as a backup option this season until they get a good inside look at him with their own people. There is no guarantee he didn’t show his true colors at AAA last year. If payroll isn’t going to be an issue right now I’d like to see them extend Jeffers and let Vasquez play out the season again in a timeshare. If Cartaya shows anything he can slot in as part of the tandem in 2026 or they can go shopping for another veteran.

My preference is to leave Jax as an elite reliever. I just don’t think we can afford the risk this offseason that he might not make it as a starter. I see the Twins as a playoff team but only if everything goes right. A hole in the bullpen AND the rotation with a Jax failed conversion is a big miss. The other option I MIGHT consider is checking his market value to see if anyone is willing to overpay to make him a starter. At that point you’re likely planing for 2026 and beyond.

What Did Michael Tonkin Ever Do to You?
Hrbeks Divot replied to Matthew Trueblood's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Start the conversation with a minor league offer and ST invite. If the plan is to sign three guys the caliber of last year to fill the bullpen he’s worth a major league deal at $1.5-$2.0. -
Twins Hold Bake Sale to Make Payroll
Hrbeks Divot replied to RandBalls Stu's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Just watched the Volume Services training video and I’m pumped to start slinging brats! -
I’m not sure if the Twins are saying this but if it bumps up his trade value they aren’t going to mind. I don’t like the idea of the Twins giving him another shot at starting but if someone else wants to do it and will pay a premium for that in a trade then I’d move him. I like Jax a lot but with the payroll constraints the FO is working under these are the types of tough decisions that are going to have to be made.

I wouldn’t lump a single outing by Alcala in the same group as the rest of these. Sure we can look at a before and after snapshot of the team using that game as a demarcation point but I’ve heard that particular meltdown mentioned way too many times on these pages. Relief pitchers have bad outings all the time and the Twins still won that series. These are professionals. Good teams move on from bad losses all the time. And as for Alcala himself, he had a decent season although he faded in towards the latter part of the season like the rest of the team. I worried about many others in the bullpen a lot more than him.

I’ll watch as always but I can’t root for either of these big money teams. I absolutely despise the Yankees so I’m sure I’ll lean Dodgers when it comes down to it. 🤷🏻♂️

This article cements my belief that they should not even consider moving Jax back to a starting role. He went from a failed started to a great relief pitcher. Cole Sands is another example. I’d like to see them do that more. I’m not entirely sold on Varland just yet but think he could be another success in the same vein. I’d prefer they look internally at more of those options. At least they have a strong history with these types of players from both development and medical.

No. Jax is incredibly valuable to the bullpen. Rocco has and will continue to use him anywhere in the game to matchup with the opposition’s best hitters. We have plenty of young options coming up and there is no guarantee Jax would have any more success this time around as a starter. Let him continue to dominate from the bullpen!

Week in Review: Collapse Complete
Hrbeks Divot replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks for the great recaps all season long, Nick. You do a great job of providing balanced coverage while still being a fan of the team. I’m extremely disappointed in the collapse over the last six weeks but will be back for more in the spring. We’ve got some nice young talent and I’m hopeful ownership will allow the FO to supplement instead of further cutting payroll. We’ve got five months to find out.- 21 replies

Do Minnesotans Love the Twins?
Hrbeks Divot replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This article is interesting food for thought. I love the Twins but am extremely frustrated this year. I like to think of my fandom as a partnership. I’m a season ticket holder and spend my money to support the team. In return I’d like to see the Ownership invest in the team and show the fans they are serious about winning. I’m not asking for top payroll spending in the league. Just show some self awareness. It was a slap in the face to fans and terrible business practice to throw cold water on the excitement around the most successful season in years. It was a prime example of why fans feel that ownership is truly all about making money over results. I’m going to the game on Sunday and I’ll be back next year. But I’ll continue to criticize the Twins not because I hate them but because I’m invested in them and love the team. And I don’t agree with your fan base comparison. The Timberwolves were so bad for so long there was apathy around them. There were some diehards but in general people didn’t hate on them because they couldn’t care less about them. The Vikings, and the NFL in general, are the kings of professional sports. They’ve made their sport relevant year round and the fans have followed. Fans complain plenty about the Vikes but they do generally watch regardless of the on field product. It also helps that football is just one game a week. Its easier to get hyped up for one day versus six out of seven like in baseball. -
Timing and perspective is interesting. If we’d scuffled along all season and then pulled it together to make a playoff push these last couple of weeks like the Tigers it might feel like a playoff atmosphere. But instead we’ve been sliding for so long it feels like this week is the inevitable conclusion of a major collapse. Sad.

I hate when we get to the point we’re wishing for a certain matchup by finishing poorly…just not so poorly as to miss the playoffs completely. Finish as strong and healthy as possible and push for the division. We have to beat them all eventually so get in to the dance and get after it!

I agree that Festa is making an impact and is a possible replacement for Ryan. However, given his lack of experience, it remains to to be seen how he performs as the stakes get higher. He’s doing exactly what he should be doing as the team’s most MLB ready pitching prospect. We should expect to see some ups and downs in his performance and be okay with that. Hopefully he’ll be a rotation mainstay for the foreseeable future and continue to get better. I don’t understand the other comps at all. We can’t play two players at one post unless I’ve missed some rule change. Rocco will do what Rocco does with platooning and reason the matchups but he can’t do magic. Each player listed has their respective strengths but to combine their skill sets to find replacement for a lost player doesn’t compute for me.

Great breakdown. The big question for me is always the money. I’m happy to trade prospects for know big leaguers IF the ownership is willing to cover the cost of it turns out poorly. If the front office takes a big swing and misses how do they recover? Ownership hasn’t shown that they will go out and spend to correct the mistake. The Twins aren’t a small market team but they operated like one. Until ownership opens up the checkbook a little bit the front office will proceed with trades and FA signings with caution.

Dear Pohlads: Don't Do This
Hrbeks Divot replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Payroll flexibility is the big question. Are the Pohlad’s willing to spend some money at the deadline that might extend into future years? If so, then go get Blake Snell and pay the prospect capital required and you’ve got at least this year and next to win a World Series with a rotation that is near the top of the league. If we can’t add payroll then roll with what we have. We don’t need to dump salary to being in a 3-4 starter that might not be better than what SWR has given us. The lineup should be able to score enough runs to win.
