Jeffers had a nice day Thursday - was looking at his stats and noticed Santana and handful of others having really solid first halves - nothing surprising to any here: Jeffers 30 XBH - 126 OPS+ Castro 33 XBH - 125 OPS+ Correa 28 XBH - 151 OPS+ Miranda 28 XBH - 151 OPS+ Santana 27 XBH - 113 OPS+ Buxton 26 XBH - 119 OPS+ Lee & Lewis both are capable of this range of performance! Solid Core along with Larnach - Kepler - Martin - Margot around the periphery. Room for Vazquez for sure - Farmer, maybe not much longer? Any offensive upgrades seem to be fools errand.

One Year From Now: Predicting the 2025 Twins Lineup
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
All correct!! Hoping for the pitching add! Curious about signing Lewis up - how that might look w/o much playing history due to his injuries. Risk for both sides to be weighed. Castro sure seems to have earned some security.- 65 replies

One Year From Now: Predicting the 2025 Twins Lineup
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
To me, it’s not accurate though. The idea was to platoon Kirilloff with Santana at 1B - an ideal Left/Right combination. 1) Larnach was hurt - IL. 2) Castro had to play 3B because Lewis was OUT - IL. 3) The anticipated every day LF, Matt Wallner hit .080 and hasn’t seen MLB since April 20. Enter OUR ONLY OPTION, Alex Kirilloff in LF. There was no affinity for Santana at 1B it was “how do we field a line-up”…….,,Brooks Lee could have filled in and allowed Castro to play LF……but he too was on IL. Another version of observing and making a reasonable conclusion. I like Kirilloff - still hope he’s able to be a big contributor with his bat. I do not think he was mishandled, certainly with no malice. The fact that he got sent down and then advised mgmt. of an injury he’d been concealing (bad back, not shoulder) is on him, IMO.- 65 replies

Not disagreeing - just throwing out some names - part of the definitive line with Ryan was the Technology wasn’t evolved. or pursued much. Smoky Joe Wood - Ryan - Walter Johnson - Sam McDowell - Clemons - JR Richard - Gooden - Feller ……definitely not a long list of possibilities prior to 90’s.

One Year From Now: Predicting the 2025 Twins Lineup
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Santana is ahead of Pasquantino - Spencer Steer - Matt Chapman & right behind Francisco Lindor - Cody Bellinger - Austin Riley in OPS. He’s second on the Team in HR’s and he’s by far the best Defensive option on the Club at 1B. It’s not May 5th anymore!! Margot has been hitting over .300 for the past 35 games…..don’t get the attitude regarding these guys…….maybe 8-9 weeks ago but it just isn’t logical at this point. Big Kirilloff fan here - he’s never been healthy and it’s certainly no other player nor the organization’s issue! It’s 110% on Alex. If Kiersey or Julien or Wallner or Kirilloff were actually Superior, they’d be in the Show and not traveling the country for the Saints. Jeffers is under Team control through 2026. He’s not going anywhere. Larnach is inferior defensively to Castro as an OF (Castro faster & with better arm) but he’s a better left handed hitter than Castro. Castro has much better versatility and obviously can play at an acceptable level from the left side and is much better from the right side.- 65 replies

One Year From Now: Predicting the 2025 Twins Lineup
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My bestest line-up or best 13 guys, maybe not practical with today’s offensive numbers: 1) I don’t ever see Julien playing 1B for Twins 2) Emma may be up by July next year but I’m’ penciling in how they break camp - after that performance & injuries may blow things 3) Biggest wrench is I see Julien rebounding & this somebody has to flex, ……..Royce. Kirilloff/Miranda - 1B Julien/Castro/Martin - 2B Correa/Lee - SS Lee/Lewis/Miranda - 3B Jeffers/Vazquez - C Lewis/Larnach - LF Buxton/Martin/Castro - CF Wallner/Castro LH pitcher: Lee - 3B…Castro - RF…Correa - SS…Lewis - LF…Miranda - 1B…Jeffers - C…Buxton - CF… Martin - 2B…DH - ???? RH pitcher: Julien - 2B…Lee - 3B…Larnach - DH…Lewis - LF…Kirilloff - 1B…Correa - SS…Wallner - RF…Martin - CF…Vazquez - C Seems no DH for a lefty pitcher & displacing Miranda v. RH pitcher……,,may shove Kirilloff out of the mix? I like Julien - Lee - Lewis all hitting & seems LF fits Lewis power profile and may be easiest in his body?- 65 replies

My immediate reaction to the Varland “piggy back” was it won’t work, not an option. 30 seconds later???? Varland is strong enough to throw 3 innings in “a Festa start” and throw 1 inning in between. This approach wouldn’t shorten the Pen enough to be harmful…..at first blush. Problem is, when (on what pitch) is Festa grooving a pitch for a home run? It’s worth some consideration! ……probably only from those who frequent TD. Probably giving Festa one more start regardless of outcome and back to Paddack from July 19 to September 1st……. then a re-shuffling.

Twins Daily Minor League Hitter of the Month - June 2024
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Have not paid attention to Severino at all - he sure seems to be worthy of paying attention to from now on - amazing stats. Wallner……have been reluctant to promote him being promoted. Not sure there’s any room on Big Club w/o demoting Martin - doesn’t seem fair. Wallner sure looks ready to contribute! Can’t stay in St Paul all the way to September 1st can he? Definitely is the expanded roster guy.- 12 replies

Royce Lewis, Injuries, and Stupid Luck
JD-TWINS replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Definitely a bummer! Until reading this I was thinking 2 weeks, maybe 3 weeks. Wow - middle of August at best?!?! Offense isn’t the same but it’s not a disaster……..defense replacement seems seamless. -
Will the Twins Trade for a Mercenary?
JD-TWINS replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How many “elite” relievers are there? Who are these guys? Stewart is elite - nobody wanted him…….Staumont, while not elite, hasn’t allowed a run and nobody was pushing hard to sign him. IMO, Varland & Paddack back to the Pen over the last 3 weeks & into October works. Lewis’ throwing error and Lewis getting thrown out in 10th at 3B on a fly ball to CF essentially created 2 of those 5 losses. Always looking for the new guy or the better guy…,fun to consider but there are no perfect Teams. -
Big difference between walking nobody (or few) and “command”. To me, command is locating the ball properly, not loosely throwing it into the strike zone. He’s got good enough stuff! His command is mediocre, particularly with his changeup. He continually threw his fastball center of the plate, 6” below & 4” above the zone. Intentionally, I think! Eventually, (grand slam) a guy will sit on that pitch if ahead in the count. Maybe mixed results for the hitter but it’s an increased opportunity for the batter. Up and in, or even better, down and away or down and in off the plate, (any variation) occasionally, makes everything more effective. He gave up a high, center cut fastball for granny & then, in next at bat, hung a change in the middle of the plate. “Strikes” but with poor command! I think most of the issue is immaturity and developing between his ears, not physical capability. He was shaking off Vazquez and throwing fastballs like he was Nolan Ryan - it caught up to him. …….I think his future is solid, just needs to gather himself and be smarter pitch to pitch and in less of a hurry. Just an opinion.

I think he gets one more look in or around the 8th and hopefully Paddack is rested up by July 19-20 or so……if not, it’s problematic.

Will the Twins Trade for a Mercenary?
JD-TWINS replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How about a MERCENARY, and not a “nice value trade”, per the premise? To: Either team……some guy like Severino or Kiersey …..maybe add an A ball kid…..FOR: 1) Aroldis Chapman OR 2) Matt Moore PEN: Staumont - Alcala - Varland - Paddack - Stewart - (Chapman or Moore) - Jax - Duran in October!!!! -
Twins Promote Top Prospect Brooks Lee!
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Line-up not posted yet …..RH starter for Tigers with one start this year and a 9.35 ERA….gotta think they let Lee get a piece of that opportunity!! Guesswork: Lee - Miranda - Larnach - Correa - Kepler - Santana - Buxton - Castro - Vazquez -
Seems to have been the right guy to me….,,anybody can have a down year due to injury. He’s on the shortest deal and all years should be in productive career years for him - through age 33-34. Nice bench/clubhouse leadership…..solid production offensively and with glove/arm ….,very motivated to WIN - very outwArd showing it’s important!!! ….not sure how much of that the other teams got?

Twins Pitcher of the Month: June 2024
JD-TWINS replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Duran is the Closer! ……sometimes it makes more sense in an even ballgame to get him in the game in the 8th to have a for sure “hold”. Also, he comes in during the 8th to get through the heart of a line-up occasionally. You’re excited (many are) about Alcala’s velocity getting to 100-101Mph & that’s great…..however, Duran’s velocity drops to 100-101Mph and he needs to “work things out.” He missed 3 plus weeks and already has thrown in 28 games. He’s thrown 26 plus innings & his WHIP is .975 - way better than year one or year two! He’s 3-3 and he’s made maybe 5-6 pitches that were not located and subsequently drilled by the opposition. He surely could have been better! Couple times a combination of bad choices have lead to problems……(curveball to LH hitter in a 0-2 count that hung, etc.) Duran doesn’t deserve Pitcher of the Month but he is squarely the best guy we have to Save games!!!- 6 replies

Lee up……..Lewis to 10 Day IL. Stewart or even Canterino to an extended IL designation of some sort? Seems Stewart is out or should be out through July at this point. Seems like clearly an automatic move to be made.

His issues today forward nor in the past have anything to do with Team treatment of him. You can’t play if you can’t run. He said last night he would have had no chance to score on a base hit from 2B…….. poor communication & judgement from a young player who is anxious to contribute. Lewis needs to be physically able to play and the Team will happily put him in the line-up.

He walked twice last night and had a double. That’s really good. If he didn’t have a weakness with sliders he’d be next to perfect & he’d hit .450………..there are no perfect players…….back to reality. Just think how many home runs Pete Rose would have hit if he was only 6’2” and 210lb.!!

Twins Receiving Calls On Outfielder Matt Wallner
JD-TWINS replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The batting stats issues (OPS) v. RH pitching were enriched by Wallner’s .080BA before he was sent to St Paul. I don’t see the Club trading a Native Minnesotan, an inexpensive guy that has decent OF play - with potential to harness his arm into a real weapon - and a whole bunch of power! I still think Lee is the next guy up and Castro eases back into the OF. Wallner will be on the Club in September for sure….,,,sooner than that? Not trading him.
