  1. Julien - Polanco - Lewis - Kirilloff - Solano - CC - Farmer - Taylor - Castro - Kepler - Wallner - Stevenson - Vazquez - Jeffers - Buxton (15) Lopez - Gray - Maeda (non-roster Ober) Varland - Ryan - Funderburk - Jax - Pagan - Thielbar - Duran - (either Stewart or Kuechel)(11) …………………. Paddack Gordon Alcala are all guys we need to wait on until 2024.
  2. Don’t see any bias in choosing Cole for Cy Young. Gray is having a nice season - maybe his biggest attribute is he’s taken the ball every time when it’s his turn. His mental adjustments (strategy) between starts have been impressive in 2nd half. For some reason (outside of lack of run support) the Team’s record is in the neighborhood of 14-18 when Gray starts. Maybe he’s up against best pitching competition? Not sure. At any rate, I too would like the Twins try to sign Gray for 2 year maximum contract, somewhere around $47M total. Maeda for 2 years and 1/2 that amount is another option to maintain depth! Paddack - Ober - Varland - Lopez - Ryan looks great on paper but another guy would be smart for the organization. Qualifying offer of $20M to Gray - getting the draft pick when he walks - signing Maeda probably is best strategy. Hope Sonny gets some votes!!
  3. He’ll start at SS 6-8 more games. He’ll rest as much as possible. Too many others need AB’s & they’ll be DHing the remainder of the year. He’ll feel better but far from feeling good! More concerned about getting pitching lined up! Am assuming we’ll exchange Buxton for Stephenson on active roster for September 25 through remainder of the year.
  4. Pretty sure it can be assumed the medical staff is involved daily.
  5. I like Maeda potentially followed by Ryan in a playoff game. Very different styles. Maeda has experience & I like Ryan’s stuff out of the Pen. It seems to take more cuts to damage Maeda v. the Big Swing with Ryan. We’ll see over the next 10 days…….I think Ober sits first Series to get maximum bats on roster. Kuechel is too much risk to bring into a playoff game - not sharp enough, consistently. Ryan’s fastball command was poor last night and he can’t lean on his other pitches enough to be effective without his velocity in the zone. His high fastball has to be called or swung at 70% of the time. Last night it was a “take pitch” and then the splitter was getting tagged when it was up!
  6. Outscored opponents 102-58 since September 1st…….last 16 games. Playing at home. Kirilloff - Polanco - Lewis healthy…….Kepler - Solano - Julien - Walner - Jeffers all in place……..CC & Buxton as our 2 weak links. Taylor - Castro - Farmer for depth pieces. Varland - Maeda - Funderburk added to the Pen. I like our chances in the first series!
  7. Miranda to 3B???……gotta have a better plan than that to be successful. ‘23 season: Didn’t hit, poor defense, & hurt………a lot like Buxton only he hit 17 HR hobbling around for 50% of the season.
  8. I don’t see Celestino seeing our active 26 man ever again. Martin has to get seasoned more to be an option…….maybe by mid-June or later in the summer. Rodriguez as a Call-up in September of ’23.is a possd Buxton will have perpetual health issues - as he has in 8 of his first 9 years! Can hardly play 50% of the games as a DH. Can’t move him so therefore we try to keep him healthy and DH him as appropriate and have him play CF in 40 games HOPEFULLY! Taylor makes sense as a depth OF in Center or either corner. Castro will be back - I saw in the Athletic today that he’s tied for 3rd as fastest time when stealing at 28.6ft per second…….4th in AL in steals, with 31, as a part-time player.
  9. I don’t want to see Julien up in the 6th with 2 guys on & we’re down a run, with a LH pitcher on the mound, and we can PH Solano…… but don’t because we’re worried about what might be in the 9th. Gotta try to score when the opportunity presents itself - more so in the Playoffs!!
  10. I think we gotta hope for Texas as our opponent……..weakest pitching by far……not a great road team. They have some thumpers in the line-up for sure. We’ve outscored our opponents the last 16 games - since September 1st, by a total of 102-58…….scoring runs ourselves at a nice clip. Seattle - Toronto both have good staffs. Texas has a bunch of lefties but we didn’t seem to have a problem with them in our recent 7 games.
  11. At least he’s trying to evolve. Hopefully, by Spring Training he’ll have mastered the Sinker and will be a good 3 pitch guy by next year & bring some value to the Pen!

    Royce Lewis: ROY?

If he stays hot he’ll get some votes but Henderson - Casas - Diaz all have really good stats and 2x the AB’s…….more data on each of them…..they’ve had good seasons. Lewis has the ability to be a better player over the course of a full season than anyone in this rookie class. The good news is Eddie is viable as a really good player going forward as well!!
  13. I just hope he keeps hitting - I don’t care where he plays - somewhere that promotes good health!! Puckett is in HOF - Lewis has enough talent, just needs to DO IT for 10 years before we get carried away with All-Time greats. The talent & enthusiasm is undeniable, no doubt!!
  14. Correa being moved, never happening. Why would anyone trade for CC after this year’s lack of production & health issues. Maybe, if he has a great year in ‘25 or ‘26 we could then trade him but why would we if he’s playing well?
  15. I assume he’ll do one year deals from here on out……,bottom line is he’s our 3rd best guy out of the Pen & he’s cool when in the tight spots, late. Very valuable!!
  16. I watch 90% of the games on MLB and I didn’t think the zone was a problem at all last night. Always a couple low pitches are called as they are moving downward - usually some outside corner pitches, that are wide, will get called as the ump is set-up on other side of catcher/plate. Nothing glaring or repetitively bad last night.
  17. After Cleveland sold at the deadline it made perfect sense for the FO to just stay put with players - let guys heal - win the Division with whatever record compiled. No reason to make trades for relief help to try & win Division by 5 more games. Cleveland had dumped Civale - Josh Bell & McKenzie/Bieber were already out until late September on IL. They were toast! Stewart was/is a bonus “maybe” in October ……the 4 core guys would/should be available……1 starter for sure will be in Pen……..Varland in Pen…….. Funderburk in Pen……….may only go with 7 relievers & 4 starters to get a 15th bat. Wouldnt be surprised if Ober isn’t rostered in first series. Kuechel is an option as well from Pen in a longer series. Doubt he’ll be rostered in the 3 game series with Wildcard.
  18. They are keeping their manager for next year & promoted a GM from within. Doesn’t seem to be a great way to promote change of attitude. The SS, Tim Anderson, former batting champ, looks like a guy the does not care & has for a couple years. They have problems!
  19. Castro’s “line drive double” wasn’t exactly accurate either as Kirilloff stood between first & second until he saw the ball bounce off the fence - Castro almost lapped him coming around first…….it was a double, all good.
  20. The Twins starters average going deeper into games than any other team in the Bigs in ‘23…….stat from early August…….doubt it has changed much. Maeda cruises through 7 last night. If somebody paid attention to innings with Koufax, maybe he doesn’t have to retire at age 30! Different time - different expectations on starters - nobody throwing 97-100MPH (let alone 3 guys) in nearly every Pen. Don’t get the constant attacks on Baldelli - he’s managing the team…..he’s not giving up HR’s in the 9th nor striking out in key situations. Ball players win & lose games.
  21. So we differ on Celestino - just don’t see him evolving into a player we want. I have no crystal ball, so we’ll find out. Miranda - had some success in ‘22 - seemed to have played quite a few games in ‘23 to have been hurt most of the year……..I guess the shoulder lingered. When he did play, he didn’t play well. We’ll see with him as well. My withering away comment was intended for now & forward, don’t see these guys making it in our organization so we should let them have opportunities elsewhere to be fair. Trading for much value, unless with other young prospect types, seems slim.
  22. Where do they fit in going forward…….you think Martin & Lee are players, correct? Where will Miranda play in a Twins Uniform? Who is he playing in front of next season? Same with Celestino - he’s a right handed bat with lesser skills than Castro. Larnach has been up & down for 3 years………as I’ve said before, love his look as a ball player & his pedigree prior to draft………if Kepler comes back (90%?) then I do not see a spot for him either in ‘24, even to try.
  23. Health & Effectiveness. Without those, more depth is needed than 3 additional minor league arms. Not necessarily picked up via trade - difficult to do unless trading guys like Arraez. Larnach - Miranda - Celestino …….withering away in AAA ……..gotta move them or cut bait, IMO.
  24. First 2 outs on 6 pitches……..he gets behind & then gives in, not necessarily planned, the vast majority of the time he has electric stuff & is successful. Ends up with something spinning in the middle of the zone and it gets tagged. Happening too often lately.
  25. That’s hindsight IMO……Griffin Jax looks like Mariano Riviera most outings. didn’t give up a run for 3 months at one point. Jax has tremendous stuff & needs to pitch better!
