Twins Add Four to their 40-Man Roster
FlyingFinn replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the Twins didn't add Sisk and Helman in September to check them out against mlb teams, that told me they weren't going to add them now. They will hope to keep them with the Saints. Sisk is more at risk of being selected in the Rule 5 just because he is a pitcher but I still don't think he will be.- 52 replies

Twins Add Four to their 40-Man Roster
FlyingFinn replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Same with Canterino if we are okay with him earning major league service time (someone correct me if I'm wrong about that). If adding Legumina costs Pagan a 40 man spot, I'm all for it. Contreras will be run through waivers at some time. Garlick too. To me, filling the 40 man means we plan to do some trading.- 52 replies

Who Will the Twins Add to their 40-Man Roster?
FlyingFinn replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Enlow is already on the 40 man and is not Rule 5 eligible. If he is taken off the 40 man, he would be subject to a waiver claim. If the Twins kept him on the 40 man the 40 man all of 2022, I don't see them waiving him now. The Rule 5 draft is mostly about pitching so I add Headrick (Twins lack much quality in LH starting pitching after trading two away last summer) along with Julien and Canterino to the 40 man.- 33 replies

Twins Announce Harmon Killebrew Award Winners

Look at all the catchers on this list! We may not have great talent in the upper minors at this position but we certainly have some great people!!- 6 replies

Yes, Camargo is out best catcher in the minors. This article is odd. There is zero chance that Bechtold and Banuelos get added to the 40 man. Nobody is taking them in the Rule 5 draft. Bechtold really isn't a catcher at all, rarely catching more than a couple games a week. Banuelos can't hit at all. Isola is a good hitter but also plays other positions more than catching. Other than Camargo, we are looking at Winkel and Cardenas as our best catching prospects, but they are years away from the majors. Camargo is the one that could get added to the 40 man.

Twins AFL Report (Week 4): Edouard Julien is HIM
FlyingFinn replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
They rarely take AAA players in the AFL. I'm thinking the Twins wanted him here and thus didn't move him to AAA in September. Isola - I agree with jmlease. He catches so few games in the minors and in the AFL, that I don't even consider him anything more than an emergency catcher. If he's a 1B, his hitting has to be on Julien's level or he's just another good body in the minors, not worthy of getting to MLB.- 16 replies

Do the Twins Have an Ace in the System?
FlyingFinn replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am the lone ranger on the David Festa bandwagon, my personal Twins minor league pitcher of the year. He competed at two levels this year and had by far the best numbers of any pitcher with significant innings. I believe he is hitting 98 mph and he has been healthy. In his playoff game, he went 7 innings with something like 10 K's and 1 hit allowed (and that game doesn't get included in of the stats when the year's minor league stats are posted). He's my pick.- 22 replies

Twins AFL Report (Week 3): Julien Blasts Off
FlyingFinn replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
With teams wanting as many pitchers as possible on them, you can see why the Twins and others play their minor league players in many different positions. That advantage goes to Martin. Julien will be stuck at 2B IMO. His batting will have to be what gets him to the Twins and his fielding has to be at least okay. I love Julien's AB's, the way you explained them. I think they absolutely wear out pitching staffs and set the table for the middle of the lineup.- 13 replies

Enlow - he returned from TJ surgery in 2022 and won't end up on the 60 day IL in 2023. If you are predicting another one, he is no longer in the Twins plans at that point. As for 2022, he probably did what the Twins expected, which is why I think he will stay on the 40 man into next year. I do agree with you, he must produce in 2023 or someone will take his 40 man roster spot.

Since we are spending, keep Correa and add Judge. Now, that would be a lineup!

As much as I bash Kepler's hitting, especially grounding into the shift, he is A+ in RF and deserves the gold glove.

Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?
FlyingFinn replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great comment. We drafted six SS's last year and another in the 1st round the year before. Doesn't mean that the Twins plans change but nothing points to signing a SS for ten years at $300 million. And like you say, the GM's with similar internal salary caps are not doing this. Just look at Donaldson - his four-year contract felt like an anchor after two years and we had to give up players for the Yankees to take him.- 86 replies

Twins Trade Candidate: Gio Urshela
FlyingFinn replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Exactly! I want Rodon, Nimmo, Abreu and spend a few million on another catcher. That means we have to get rid of some salary elsewhere. Urshela will not be with the Twins in 2024. He had a good year and this is the peak of his trade value IMO. Miranda needs to be at 3B as we can't just DH him because of Buxton. If he has a poor first half in 2023, he is worth nothing.- 34 replies

LonelyseatinMOA’s 2023 Payroll Blueprint
FlyingFinn replied to LonelyseatinMOA's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
That is one way to force the starters to go longer in games. -
FYI - the rules will not allow a team to carry 14 pitchers.
-
Wow, I had the impression that Correa had the best arm strength. I believe Arraez is underrated at 2B and that is where he will end up. Celestino - just needs to use his arm strength wisely and hit cutoffs more often. Maybe we should be trying him out as a pitcher.................

Gordon, Wade, Miranda, Arraez, Kirilloff, Garver for hitters. Chargois, Jax, Ynoa for pitchers. Decent advancement of prospects from this class except it's mostly missing starting pitchers.

Doctor Gast’s 2023 Payroll Blueprint
FlyingFinn replied to Doctor Gast's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I agree with you but I left him off my roster because I think he needs to get some fundamentals straight at AAA, needs to know that he has to hustle and run bases correctly, plus I want him to gain some confidence in finding more power. Due to injury he has been gifted a MLB roster spot for two years. For being so young, he has done fine. I would prefer they bring him up after a month or two at AAA. -
FlyingFinn’s 2023 Payroll Blueprint
FlyingFinn replied to FlyingFinn's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
True, especially on the left side. When Lewis returns, Polanco probably moves back to 2B as injuries sort things out. With Lewis, I think the range at SS will be better but we will also see some errors from him. Miranda just has to improve defensively. He didn't come up from the minors with a reputation of being a horrible fielder (not great either) so I think he can. The other option is to move Polanco over the winter and get a better defender at SS. Since I'm planning on Lewis being there, it would be someone on a one year deal. Certainly would hurt our hitting compared to Polanco. -
3 Minor-League Free Agents the Twins Should Try to Retain
FlyingFinn replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
A catcher who throws out 38% of the runners! Yea, we have to keep Camargo and work on the rest of his defense. I'm leaning towards adding him to the 40 man roster.- 22 replies

FlyingFinn’s 2023 Payroll Blueprint
FlyingFinn replied to FlyingFinn's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
If the Twins are trying to win with this salary cap and don't have Carlos Correa, I think adding Rodon makes the pitching staff look very good. It has been reported that the Twins have talked to him in the past during free agency so I don't think he is that much of a stretch for them to sign.
