  1. You apparently didn't hear about Festa's game last night. Hit 101 mph. 6.2 innings when most others go 5 or less. No runs and no walks in a playoff game. He was dominant. Not true. Festa was drafted in the 13th round. Can hit 100mph with no walks in a game. Apparently I am on the Festa bandwagon more than anyone on TD. As for Headrick, he will be on the 40 man. Twins traded away two lh starters in Povich and Hajjar. Can't afford to let another get away.
  2. Festa clinches minor league pitcher of the year IMO. Hits 101 MPH, goes 6.2 innings (not a typo!), 2 hits, NO walks, and no runs. Wow! Ben Ross continues to do very well. SSS but this has been a great start for him.
  3. Festa just capped his minor league pitcher of the year award with 6.2 innings of 2 hit, no BB, 10 SO performance in the playoffs. Wow! (who says our minor league pitchers only go 5 innings max)
  4. Interesting note - if everyone had stayed healthy, Gordon would have been cut (replaced by Lewis) before he got a chance to play almost every day and show what he can do. Also, Miranda - there probably wouldn't have been room for him, he would stayed with the Saints and he may have been dealt at the trade deadline for pitching, again before we knew he could or couldn't handle MLB pitching. Right now, those are 2 of our best 4 hitters.
  5. Wallner continues his hot streak. If the Twins drop out of the race, bring him up and get his cold start out of the way before next year. Sabato - the injury is bad enough but he was probably going to the Arizona Fall League to work on things. Doubly bad for him. Soularie - anyone know why he is suspended?
  6. True. I think the Twins have projected innings totals for each pitcher for the year and those are now limiting the innings they pitch in September even though they are stretched out to go longer. Age is certainly a factor. A good prospect would never have been allowed to go 9 innings. Is it the right thing to do is the real question? Have the Twins and other teams done this for years or is this a change? Does this prevent injuries or help the pitchers in the future? It's my impression that there weren't many major injuries this year to our guys in the lower minors. The Canterino and Balazovic injuries the past couple years certainly aren't good but many say Canterino's injury was due to the way he was overused at Rice University. I'm thinking the Twins and other organizations try to answer these questions better each year. I imagine nobody has #'s on whether everyone does about the same thing with their minor league pitchers as the Twins do. Good discussion.
  7. A five inning rule just isn't true. Festa 6.2 innings on Sept 7th for Cedar Rapids. Gossett 9 innings on Aug 19 for Wichita. Carr 6.2 innings on Aug 16 for Fort Myers. Rodriguez 6 innings on Aug 5 for St. Paul. So there isn't any five inning rule at the top four levels of the Twins minors.
  8. Yasser Mercedes - plays CF, bats .355, 4 home runs, and 30 SB's in 41 games for the DSL Twins. To top it off, he is currently 17 years old.
  9. Lots of good pitching this week, tonight it was - Balazovic, Headrick, Olsen, Raya as starters and plenty of good relief pitching as well, but not McMahon, who has struggled greatly since his promotion. Wallner with a couple hits including his third triple for the Saints. Wow, for someone who is supposed to be slow, he sure gets a lot of triples and steals his share of bases.
  10. This team was built to win against great teams more with hitting than dominant pitching. Who did we expect in the lineup but isn't there right now - Buxton, Kirilloff, Larnach, Polanco, and Jeffers. I realize they haven't been gone all year but, even when playing in the middle of the year, each of them tried to play with significant injuries except Jeffers. We should be saying how great Gordon is doing batting 7th in the lineup. Instead, we are amazed he is doing a decent job as our cleanup hitter. If Tommy Watkins didn't pull his boneheaded go and stop sign for Celestino in the extra inning game against the Yanks, the Twins would have split the series with them IMO. If we make the playoffs, we aren't likely to win much of anything in the playoffs as we are overmatched against the top tier teams but baseball is a funny game. One final thought - this must mean that we significantly outperform our division foes against non Tier 1 teams.......... What does that say about the Guardians and White Sox?
  11. Lots of foul balls when he can't get that third strike results in long AB's and less innings. Ryan looks durable and should be a solid pitcher for us for years.
  12. How many games get rained out for Fort Myers? It seems like about one per week or maybe 15-20 in the season. I realize most of them get made up but they then play 7 inning double headers. Martin certainly is doing better after coming back from injury.
  13. Agreed. If the Twins have an internal cap (which I think they do) and will spend elsewhere when saving money, Jeffers $713K is much better than spending $9 million on Sanchez as they have been almost identical overall this year. I think Sanchez just won't get better and I think Jeffers will improve (others disagree) but I'm no longer sure he will improve enough to be a #1 catcher, especially with the increase in base size. Minors - we have some great hitters in the upper minors who catch (Williams, Isola). The problem is that they play other positions more than half the time. I just don't agree with this unless the Twins know they are never going to be MLB catchers. We have hopes for the younger guys - Camargo, Winkel and especially Cardenas - but they are a long ways away. A majority of MLB catchers actually hit worse than Jeffers and Sanchez. I would keep Jeffers for one more year and find a left-handed hitting catcher who plays good defense (has to be someone out there better than Leon hits right?) to go with him.
  14. Wow, lots of great pitching after it seemed like we lost our depth in the trades we made or guys were getting tired the past couple weeks. The only pitchers who struggled were two guys pitching at a new level (Grace and McMahon) for the first time and Enlow, who continued his recent poor streak. Encouraging outing by Ober.
  15. Reminds me of the movie Bull Durham, though Minaya wasn't exactly pitching great with the Saints. Minaya can hop around the minors in AAA filling a teams holes but each September he is likely to get cut as younger guys keep taking his spot.
  16. I like Headrick as much as anyone but pitcher of the day? He gave up 3 runs, 2 earned including a HR in 5 innings. Cleto gave up no runs over 4 innings. Don't like his wildness then how about Balazovic's 4 innings, giving up 1 ER and only walking 2. Wallner is on fire! This is exactly his Wichita time went - started so cold that a few on TD said he's no good and then gets so hot that some people are calling for an immediate callup to the Twins. Rosario and Enlow continue their current streaks, the first good and the second bad.
  17. Looked at Julien at #5, Williams at #4, and Cardenas at #3 and was thinking they would be the top 3. Didn't realize Wallner's hot streak extended to a month, or was so good at the end that it made the entire month look good. I still think he starts too slow at each level for the Twins to try call him up and give good production for a playoff run. Will Holland at #1? Wow, I knew he was doing good after moving up but not this good. Great for him. But, no, he will not be added to the 40 man roster.
  18. Kepler is the one guy who should get a gold glove. Arraez....no.
  19. Great game from SWR. Rosario has been hitting well lately for Fort Myers and also nice to see Raya back after his very short start last time due to illness.
  20. Wow, great night for some of our top hitters in the minor leagues - Wallner, Martin, Lee, Julien, etc.
  21. And the Peacock returns! Must have been a contract thing. Brad Peacock is listed as a roster move, added to the Saints roster today.
  22. Not a reach since it's a fact. He won it for being the Twins minor league pitcher of the year last year.
  23. In a surprising move, Brad Peacock was released. He has a 2.92 ERA with the Saints and was 5 for 5 in save opportunities. Anyone know if this was a contract thing, that he must be called up to the Twins by September 1 or be released?
  24. The problem is that Isola and Williams play more at DH and 1B than catcher. I don't understand why because we need them honing their catching skills. With bigger bases coming to MLB, will they be able to throw anyone out or play adequate defense?
