  1. Seems like a lot less errors since coming back from injury. Maybe someone else knows more detail.
  2. "Arraez has three years of arbitration ahead, while Polanco is owed $7.5 million next year followed by two team options. But to me, the backup options behind both of them are less compelling, and their impact is less replaceable than Kepler's. I don't find my faith in either shaken to the same degree." I know most disagree, but the Twins should have traded Polanco earlier this year. They should trade him this off-season before his value declines farther. Moving him to 2B kept him healthier and on the field for a while. I just think his injuries will continue to increase as he ages. I disagree that we don't have anyone to replace people at 2B. I love Arraez and would put him there if Polanco is traded. We have Julien and Martin on the way. They will increase the team speed of this sedentary group. Also, we have many SS's in the system now and not all of them will stay at SS. One of the reasons we traded Steer is because we have so many infielders in our system. Great article.
  3. Buxton is so valuable when healthy which is why he got the contract he did. He has to play CF. He covers so much ground, making our pitchers look so much better than with any other CF out there. Some people complain that he batted like Sano this year but he was playing hurt. If the Twins ever get a season where Buxton plays 120 games fairly healthy (a stretch, I know), they will be World Series contenders. And he will be in the MVP running if that happens.
  4. Helman - 14 homers, 30 SB's, plays most any position defensively. With Gordon playing well, I still don't see him making it on the 40 man roster. Will someone take him in the Rule 5 draft.....
  5. "Even with his strong performance, there isn’t a guarantee that he starts the 2023 season in the high minors. Shuffield skipped Low-A Ft. Myers, and it might be best for his development to start next season in the lower minors" Very nice start for Shuffield. But this is similar to bringing Mikey Perez up to AAA when the Twins needed someone for the Saints. He will be back down in A ball to start next year.
  6. I believe you mean series as each of Fort Myers and Cedar Rapids did win one playoff game.
  7. Camargo and Laweryson were great. Keirsey with another HR. Interesting notes - Lee is DH'ing and Martin playing SS in both playoff games. Not sure if that means anything. Martin seems to be making a lot less errors since being on the IL and getting all healed up. Also, the Wind Surge is deep enough that Holland is coming off the bench as a defensive replacement.
  8. What worked with the pitching pipeline? Duran, Winder, Jax and Ryan (though I would not count him as fitting into my pitching pipeline definition because we got him when he was in AAA). Varland, SWR, Headrick, Festa all moved up and did relatively well. The depth of pitching in the lower minors is good. Hajjar and Povich were huge successes, allowing us to trade them for Mahle and Lopez (which almost all in TD hailed as great at the times of the trades). What failed? Balazovic and Canterino. Injuries always get some pitchers so Balazovic was the main person taking down the pipeline. But who else really failed to change some people's opinion of the pipeline from good to bad this year? Enlow was never going to rebound all the way to the Twins. I count Duran, Winder and Jax as success stories this year for the pipeline. Now, Winder will have to stay healthy and improve. If Varland, SWR, and Headrick would be as successful in 2023 as the three we had this year, that is a great pipeline to me.
  9. "His prospect stock will continue to rise if he can hit for power while continuing to catch. " Cardenas - If he is great defensively, his stock will skyrocket. If he isn't very good defensively, not so much. I think he's at least okay on defense but I'm just guessing because he plays a higher % at catcher than others like Isola and Williams.
  10. If Roger Duran can lower his walk #'s in the next few years, our setup and closer for the Twins could be Duran Duran.
  11. It sounds like the Twins but it wasn't today - it was one addition and one subtraction.
  12. I am a huge Yasser Mercedes fan. The 30 SB in a short season combined with his great defense and good batting #'s, including power, makes him my pick. Any word on the defense for Rodriguez and Olivar?
  13. What is the easiest thing to fix - fundamentals. The Twins were the worst baserunning team in MLB, something like a negative 12 runs lost last I heard. That's not even counting putting more stress on the pitcher and turning that one more run into a 5 run inning (and maybe not having to put our top relievers in to save them for the next game). Bunting - these guys are professionals and should be able to learn to bunt in spring training. These things are easily teachable and win games. I'm not a Rocco basher, but the fundamentals or lack there of are all on him. Well almost. I'm also not a front office basher but guys in the minors should be taught fundamentals throughout the system. As the Gordon's, Julien's, Martin's, who aren't going to be 30 homer guys come up, they should be great at fundamentals.
  14. Listened to the first half of the Wind Surge game. Kiersey with a 3B and HR before the game was out of hand (Baseball America named him the fastest runner (or was it player) in the Texas League). Martin stole second when the catcher got lazy on a throw back to the pitcher. Need some of those base running smarts on the Twins. Lee fouled off a couple 0-2 pitches and lined an RBI single to right (of course, the 2B in his next AB was a pop up in the infield). Headrick was very good. Win one more Wind Surge!
  15. There was someone in the medical profession that posted on TD in another thread - the last thing they want to do is put someone under the knife. So that's why they tried everything else first.
  16. I really like how Keirsey's bat has improved and continue to wonder if he is great defensively. Lee continues to pound the ball, now in AA.
  17. Look at all those moves. Makes sense - get done with the playoffs at the lower levels and send some of your top guys to AA and AAA for more games. Lee will get more playoff experience with the Wind Surge. Good idea!
  18. Seth said in an earlier post that it is rare for AAA players to go to the AFL. The Twins must think that Headrick and Enlow have pitched enough innings this year as well.
  19. My opinion is no, as we are more likely to protect a borderline pitcher like Headrick.
  20. Martin and Keirsey with 75 SB's combined. Keirsey certainly has speed and I would think, with that, he is an excellent defender in CF. What about the other tools? I never hear about him possibly making it to MLB. I think his bat has held him back but he is hitting better the last half of this year. Some of our 2022 draft class pitchers are throwing a few innings. Kyle Jones with the win in relief. Cavaco leaves 3 guys on base the first three times up and then cleans the bases the fourth time. Ross continues to collect hits. At Cedar Rapids, Brooks Lee already looks like the star of the team. Another couple doubles last night. Good night on the farm!
  21. We can agree to disagree. It's the minor league pitcher of the year, not the upper minors pitcher of the year or most innings pitched award. Varland won it last year pitching 55 innings at Cedar Rapids (with the rest at Fort Myers) while Festa pitched 85 there this year. Varland was almost a year older at this level than Festa if we want to throw in other factors. Most of Varland's stats this year are only one level above Festa's. Varland's minor league ERA this year was 3.63. Festa's ERA this year was 2.30. Not close! Varland gave up 15 HR's, Festa 6. SO per 9 innings are close. BB's per 9 are the same. Hits per 9 favors Festa. As for innings pitched, the difference is less than 17 innings (126.1 to 109.2). Varland was very good but Festa was great this year IMO. Next debate - Twins minor league hitter of the year, neither of whom is with the organization - Spencer Steer vs. ECS, or is it Wallner now....
