  1. I think Funderburk would be up if he was on the 40 man roster. But the Twins think/know that Maeda and/or Thielbar are coming back soon. Since they don't want to DFA Funderburk, they also don't want to put him on the 40 man.
  2. Raya and Jones pitched great for Cedar Rapids. Raya is done again after 3 IP and 61 pitches. Just have to trust the Twins being safe rather than sorry with him I guess. Rosario is really looking like the minor league hitter of the month unless Lewis does this every night for the next 9 games.
  3. Wow, some really good pitching tonight. Enlow goes into the 6th with 10 SO's and no walks. Headrick with 7 SO's and no walks. Nowlin was on the ropes in the first inning, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits. 1 hit the rest of the way. 4 SO's and amazingly for him no walks (see a trend with our starters tonight). It feels like Nowlin always pitches two totally different games within each game, always having a bad inning and then being great the rest of the way. To complete our night of no walks by our starters in 18 plus innings, Culpepper also had 0 walks. Okay, so he pitched one inning due to the lightning delay.
  4. Should the Twins claim Gus Varland who was DFA'd by the Brewers? Would DFA Deleon to get him and probably DFA Gus as part of the train to St. Paul. Could end up with another arm to work with in St. Paul.
  5. Brooks Lee breaks his mini-slump. Nice to see MacLeod pitch so well. Keirsey already has 16 SB's. He's not Billy Hamilton but just being good at one more tool has to get him a shot in MLB some day.
  6. He had 3 great innings and then blew up in the 4th (no clue of the quality of the hits). That was aided by his own error. Maybe still ramping up but his trend this year is to pitch 2 or 3 good innings and then lose it that next inning.
  7. Though I'm disappointed in Vasquez' defense so far this year, I believe if we suddenly gave him the most AB's against LH's, the stats would flip the other way, and thus I'm not as concerned about his hitting. The way our starters are pitching, I'm not changing much with our catchers, as they are handling the pitchers great.
  8. Great pitching from our A level clubs. Jordan Carr had some good game last year. If he can be more consistently good, that would be great. Anyone know if he's got the stuff to have a chance to make it up to the Twins? Obviously, he isn't on our top 30 prospect list right now. Lewis continues to dominate at Fort Myers. If Gallo goes on the IL, Contreras may get a few days with the Twins. He probably would knock Rodriguez off the 40 man and then be a candidate to be DFA'd as well after Kepler is healthy, if the Twins need that 40 man spot.
  9. What was our #1 complaint last year..................... starting pitching! Love the start of this article: "Coming into the game, Twins starting pitchers led MLB in innings pitched with 227 1/3 innings. They also lead MLB in FIP (3.15), WHIP (1.06) and strikeouts (259). They are second in ERA (3.01) and batting average against (.220)."
  10. 5 walks in 2 IP when you are ahead by 7 or more runs and Duran has to start warming up in the pen and you get the umpire call on a borderline 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded in which the batter and manager for the other team get thrown out. That qualifies as terrible in my book.
  11. Lewis stealing bases is the best thing I've heard about him. You have to be healthy to do that. Great news. Severino - on the 40 man or gone in the Rule 5 draft is my opinion right now. He is really hitting the ball. Lee is in a terrible slump right now though with everyone else on the team slamming Frisco's pitching. Festa with a great game. Great week for people to watch the Wind Surge (looks like they are playing in Frisco - rough week for those fans!), and even getting to see Corey Seager play. Funderburk sure trying to show the Twins that he is ready in St. Paul.
  12. Sands was terrible. He was so good in Wichita two years ago. Probably in St. Paul tomorrow. About time to see Balazovic. The Twins 40 man roster has some flexibility right now with 2 DFA candidates - Derek Rodriguez and Sands.
  13. Relief pitchers are the easiest to get at the trade deadline and I predict that is the one and only area the Twins focus on, maybe getting two relief pitchers.
  14. Injured early so I understand the start but I sure would like to see Raya building up. 4 starts - 2.2, 3, 3, and 3 innings. But this time he had only 1 combined hit/BB (compared to 4, 4, and 3 in his first three starts) so I'm thinking his pitch count was lower (I can't find that).
  15. Reminder, if anyone wants to vote for the TD minor league prospect rankings, go to the Minor League forum. Some very good performances tonight - Raya (time to let him go more than 3 innings), Nowlin, Headrick, Culpepper and plenty of relievers as well. Too bad for Helmin. Gets back from injury and is having a great season and he dislocates his shoulder.
  16. Larnach is smoking AAA pitchers. Trouble is there is no room with the Twins now (hard to say that when we are hitting so poorly) as I think Gallo, Taylor, Kepler continue to play the OF. Another "when Buxton can play CF" a spot opens up but we seem to say that about too many players (Julien and sometimes Miranda if his D is going to be awful).
  17. Nice to see MacLeod back. Next, we need Prielipp back. Zebby Matthews continues to have a lot of good games.
  18. Gordon does his best in CF but he is below average out there. There's a reason Taylor plays so much right now. When Buxton can play CF and Lewis is on the team, Gordon's value decreases quite a bit.
  19. Was the defense as good as it sounded on the radio. Gallo in LF, Farmer at 3B, Kirilloff at 1B seems to be much better than Larnach in LF, Miranda at 3B and Gallo at 1B, not that all of these are bad in these positions.
  20. Nice to see all of our prospects chipping in tonight. When they do well the teams do well, 4-0.
  21. Yes, With Buxton at DH, Polanco at 2B, and Kirilloff at 1B, he has no place to play. Julien does not replace Solano. Solano was supposed to face mostly lh pitching. Julien is going to face mostly rh pitching.
  22. I am no longer against a reset for Miranda in St. Paul. He was average defensively in the minors. He is not that high with the Twins. Losing the time in spring training with the shoulder problem may have been costly with him. But I thought those 3 homers would get him going hitting-wise but this past week his SO's seem to have increased and I have increasingly heard our radio announcers saying his swing didn't look good on that pitch or he took a pitch right down the middle. Maybe a reset would help when Farmer returns.
  23. Poor teams will do this with pitchers but very seldom hitters (Baddoo was an exception but has had mixed results as well). If Hidalgo gets a sniff of AA this year, he will be exactly where Tyler Wells was when Baltimore took him in the Rule 5 draft. IMO we will end up being much more sorry for not protecting Wells rather than Baddoo.
