I was happy with how Martin performed, but I think the Twins will use this as a showcase and he will be packaged with Kepler soon for a backend of the rotation pitcher. This could change if SWR proves capable, but another starter depth would be good. The timing of this may well depend on how Wallner performs in AAA. If he gets hot, then I think the trade talks heat up. Varland should be in the pen for the remainder of his career. He will be a big leaguer if he accepts that, but I don't see him in a rotation.
Who will be taken off the current roster when they come back. I heard on talk radio that Miranda may go down for Correa. I would prefer to release Margot as Martin has proven he can play the OF. Not sure what bullpen arms leave as Toppa will be ready soon as well. Thielbar, Bosman, Funderburk???
It would be a 4 or 5 spot - but he is a FA at season end. With the youth arriving, I think Wallner would be his replacement if he starts making more contact. We need to sell as high as we can on Max as he won't be brought back
When Correa comes back, I would expect Margo to be DFA's and then when Royce returns Sanata will go. Keeping Martin, Larnach and Miranda. Another injury scuttles this though.. Additionally I think that if Kepler gets hot he will be unloaded for a back end of the rotation arm.
Varland should come back in the pen, but our lack of depth may require him to be stretched out for rotation. Varland';s future is in the BP I think, as he was much better there last year
Although hard to disagree with the assessments - I love Polanco, but we shouldn't miss a beat with Julien/Farmer/Lee. If Polanco plays more games then Julien by staying healthy, then this could be debated - but I am doubting that. Arraez is missed, but Pablo is more valuable so that trade happens everyday and twice on Sunday's is asked to do it again
Would be awesome to have all of this come through as the need to part with top prospects to get a #1 pitcher to go with Pablo may end up being the need to push this team to a WS contender
Yes - Lee for Lopez would have been a deal I would have done. Agreed, everyone wants pitching so the price will be high to acquire. But with so many young players, adding a quality #2 starter seems the thing to do
To make an impact trade and take advantage of the talent we have, talent will need to go. If it takes Lee to secure a #2 starter with control -- then you do it. If not Lee, then Julien, Martin, and other young prospects will need to go.,
