  1. Considering that Dobnak is Jake Cave as a pitcher.......
  2. Did you ever hear the Moms Mabley clip, where she talks about some male acquaintance dying. She says her Momma told her to talk good about the dead. "Good. He dead"
  3. Not only no, but........I'm starting to think he should be the closer.
  4. Slow down, slow down. You know, when he gets to 70 home runs, they'll start walking him.
  5. What I saw was, when he threw a strike, it was usually over the middle of the plate.
  6. I would like to see Martin leading off for the Twins. He seems to have a pretty good OBP wherever he plays. Batting Julien behind him (also good OBP) would set the 3, 4, and 5 hitters up to drive in a lot of runs.
  7. I would be happy to see Martin leading off with Julien batting second. Put runners on base for the big hitters to get career high RBI numbers.
  8. I have to paraphrase, because it was so long ago. In the pre-DH Era, Billy Martin said if he had 8 .300 hitters that hated each other he'd have a pretty good ballclub.
  9. The Twins set a SO record. Julien is/was part of that problem (38% ?) while Kirilloff was about 26%. Give Kirillof a year platooning with Santana to see what you've got. I read Kirilloff is a + defender at 1st. You won't get that from Julien.
  10. The map is not correct. I'm in the Washington/Baltimore area, but Atlanta is also blacked out. It's 577 miles from Baltimore to Atlanta as the crow flies. That's around 1/5 of the distance from east coast to west coast. What really gets me, is that when those teams go to Minnesota the games are still blacked out. And MLB crys about losing fans!
  11. That " in market" thing is a puzzler. I'm smack dab in the middle of North Carolina, and the black out area is all the way from Baltimore to Atlanta. (577 miles as the crow flies). That includes Washington. What really makes me gnash my teeth is that if any of those teams are away (in Minn.) those are also blacked out on MLB.tv WTF!! You'd think that MLB would be trying to attract more fans, not alienating the ones they already have.
  12. Faulty thinking. Gray is/was gone anyway, therefore comparing this rotation to last years means you are trying to compare DeScalifini (great, why couldn't they have traded for a Smith) to Gray. Of course, that won't look good. However, adding De...... to the actual rotation they were going into this season with means they did, indeed, slightly improve. Yes, it hurts to lose Polanco, but the logjam in the infield, and his injury history, salary, and age meant he was the logical choice to go. We would like to think Polo should have commanded more of a return, but people grading the trade think the Twins did OK.
  13. Thin air, curves don't bend as well, balls sail farther. That sounds like what Larnach needs. Now, convince their front office.
  14. "giving up on Buxton already." In 9 seasons with the Twins Buxton has averaged 74.4 games played per season. He has averaged a .239 batting average while hitting a homerun every 19.6 times at bat but striking out once every 3 at bats. For a guy who came up as a "5 tool prospect" that is hardly impressive. His defense would make up for his less than ideal hitting, if he played defense. Right now, I consider him a defensive specialist with some pop, but he hasn't played in 50% of the games he could have. You are much more patient than I am!
  15. Polo isn't getting younger, and is on the cusp of chronic problems with his lower half. Yes, he's still very productive, but when knee and ankle problems start cropping up, they usually don't get better as you age.
  16. The added benefit is that he doesn't have to be protected on the 40 man roster yet. The Twins have a problem with too many players with MLB potential and only 40 spots to protect them. They're bound to lose somebody in the rule 5 draft. I think somebody could take a shot with Sabato; I don't see that as a loss, but I'm not giving up on (for instance) Celestino.
  17. He will most likely be included as a trade piece used to get another relief arm. Somebody will be glad to have him
  18. It's obvious that the GIDP stats aren't good, but the Twins don't seem to be concerned. They could start asking him to bunt, or attempting steals in those situations. That would fix that stat, but how many others would suffer?
  19. Kuechel has always depended on being near, but not in, the strike zone. He had the help of consistently generous calls in the last game. If hitters (and umpires) make him throw into the box, he'll get torched. And I have always been a Kuechel fan.
  20. It's easy to be unhappy if you concentrate on mistakes, but, in fairness, the FO added Solano, Farmer, Castro, Taylor, and Gallo along with setting up arguably the best starting pitcher rotation in MLB. I haven't been a big supporter of the FO, but I'm inclined to cut them a little slack, and forgive them for a mistake or two.
  21. It's a well known story that they tried to tinker with Martin's approach to hitting in an effort to get more power. And screwed him up. I guess that means he is willing to listen to coaching (maybe not anymore). Anyway, a guy who can run like Castro, but gets on base at a much higher rate (Castro milb .320, Martin milb .397) would look good in front of Julien, Lewis, Kiriloff, etc. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate Castro as a utility player, just not as an everyday starter.
  22. So, compare the effort needed to play soccer against the effort needed to play RF (he has said he doesn't like playing CF), and look at his choice. Then ask yourself if it's possible that he isn't interested in putting out effort for his money.
  23. Zulgad has an interesting theory regarding Kepler. He believes that Kepler isn't thrilled to be a ballplayer, but he likes the money. So, he has no motivation to go all out until the money is threatened. He points out the Kepler really turned it on when the Twins brought up Wallner.
  24. Aw s**t, I was having a good morning until you had to come along with that thought.
