    i have not read all 13 pages, so I don’t know if this has been said, but “Mick Abel” is a nice complement to “Billy Amick.” If Billy starts going by Bill or Abel gets a (Rocco) “Abelli” nickname, even better.

    It is pretty clear that the Twins are planning to sell off their impending free agents, with most expecting Coulombe, Castro and Bader to be on the move in the next 36 hours. However, the Twins’ brass has a penchant for going after controllable pitchers, so that they can compete now but also compete in the medium term. Pablo, Ryan, Paddack are all examples of this sort of thinking. Which brings me to Edward Cabrera, one of the best starting pitchers on the market. Cabrera is having a breakout year, is cheap, and is controllable for three years after this one. If the Twins landed him, he could help them make a (very unlikely) run down the final two months this year. More importantly, he’d be a big part of their rotation plans for the next three years. I am sure the Twins have at least checked in on what the price would be - which would undoubtedly be very high. But what would the price actually be? I’d make Keaschall and Jenkins untouchable. But beyond that, including two players from the system top 10, and maybe another lower level flyer or two. Perhaps Emmanuel Rodriguez, Riley Quick, and Billy Amick…would that be enough to get it done? Interested to hear what people might think.

    This did not age well. (Also, the Twins could have drafted Lee, Prielipp, and then STILL gotten Anthony with their 68th pick they used on Tanner Schobel before the Red Sox drafted him 79th in 2022.)

    Lee hit that 0-2 99 mph fastball that was way up and out of the zone. Helluva at bat, kid!

    The two homers to Cal Raleigh were fastballs straight down the middle. Could not have placed them any better.

    I don’t think the voters are (were) actually looking at Rocket’s stats. But…fun idea! Also, on this topic, I think the sons of former major leaguers generally get a leg up on their peers because of their dads.

    Over the years, Ive come to expect the Twins to sweep the Orioles in Baltimore, but last year seemed to indicate a change of fortune. Yesterday my youngest son and I made an impromptu trip up 95 to see game two after he finished school. We got to our seats in time to see a walk, a grand slam and a homer and the 4-0 lead evaporate. Last year continued, right? But no, Kody Clemens helped restore order. We thought his go ahead homer was 95mph, 340feet, and 40 degree angle. We were surprised at the actual numbers (104/362/38). Also, that catch by Castro in the 8th was spectacular. Thank god they moved the fences back in left a few years ago!

    Buxton gets on base to lead off the 9th and watches at least four pitches go by without moving, and then Larnach grounds into a double play. He needs to be on second base after one pitch. And then third base after two pitches. So what if Herrin is a lefty. That’s his job—he has to steal.

    Vikings got the #97 pick in the draft (3rd Round) for losing Cousins last year. And are projected to get another 3rd round next year for losing Darnold. If Flores gets a HC position, he will net them 2-3 3rd round picks.

    Fun exercise. Marco Raya, Cory Lewis, CJ Culpepper all go undrafted. Makes it seem like Soto might have been a reach. Is Soto that much better than those three and Morris? Once Codie took Kaelen Culpepper and Amick, there was no reason for Jamie to take DeBarge and Doncon before rounds 9 and 10. I’m also wondering if Diego Cartaya should have been one of the catchers drafted. Anyway, thanks for doing this, bet you had fun doing it and it makes for an interesting review of the system. (The bottom of which is pretty unknown to me.)

    As the national lists come out, it would be good to have a central location to list which Twins prospects make these lists. From Keith Law, the Athletic, Top 100 (plus his “just missed” adds 15, so really top 115) with a few lines from each: #4 Walker Jenkins …puts the ball in the air more often than on the ground, while he’s shown the ability to go the other way when pitchers try to attack him on the outer third. That feel to hit as a 19-year-old who’s already reached Double A is part of what makes him so exciting as a prospect; #21 Emmanuel Rodriguez If he stays in centerfield, with this power and patience he could be a better Mike Cameron (46.7 career WAR, so don’t scoff). #62 Luke Keaschall … had issues with fastballs up in college, but he’s looser at the plate now and gets to those pitches more often. He’s also staying back longer before transferring his weight to his front side, allowing him to get more power from his lower half From MLB Pipeline: #3 Walker Jenkins #37 Emmanuel Rodriguez #61 Luke Keaschall What other lists are out?

    Dan Hayes in the Athletic reporting that trade talks with the Padres are focused on Vazquez. And also that the Twins are interested in Dylan Cease.

    Excellent point, but isn’t it more that the minor league coach was related to Mauer? Baseball is littered with nepotism. Players’ kids get way more opportunities than many of their peers.
