    Pretty damn exciting bunch of talent down there - I'm thinking road trip. Been to Cedar Rapids once before and it was a blast. I remember $3.50 craft brews, seeing Felix Jorge pitch and Garver hit, and meeting a mascot. The rest is a blur.

    Whoah - Made my first visit last summer. While many rust-belt cities edge toward recovery, Pittsburgh shucked it off and went hi-tech. Beautiful city with lots of cool neighborhoods. Amazingly, there is almost no sprawl. You can be in total forest just a few miles from downtown.

    BTW, if you have never seen a ball game in Pittburgh, it is well worth it.

    Who is the poster with the old Metrodome scoreboard ghost "Walks will haunt" as an avatar? They are the honorary poster of the day.

    Buxton is almost too quick on the gassers - he has hit at least 6-7 fastballs foul down the 3rd baseline today, and smoked a few fair. Contact is good - bat control comes next.

    Interesting fact about Duke - he twice topped 200 innings as an MLB starter for Pittsburgh as a 23 and 26 year old. Led the NL in hits allowed in 2006 with 255.

    1 pitch - small sample size. Well if he fails, Reed steps right in, or even Hildenberger. Not worried about it ... at all.

    I actually though PH Grossman for Buxton was a good call. Was looking for the walk, but he even surpassed that. Don't want that play in August, but today, I thought it made sense with a wild pitcher on the mound.

    That will be the next test of the current management; they have proven adept at addressing roster needs and the draft, in the current sample size. Extending and managing young potential stars will be their next challenge.

    I am somewhat surprised by the universal helium around Rooker. Where are the negative people? Have to say, with that swing generating that power, I'm on board. Oops forgot this wasn't the Star Trib.....

    He could be the ace people have been wanting to overpay for after his best years for a long while. He's but a child, and damn good too.

    Another curiosity about Astudillo: In 8 minor league seasons, over 560 games and 1979 at bats, he has only struck out an astounding 67 times. He has only drawn 75 walks over the same period. The most times he's struck out in a season is 20, over 400+ at bats. Career .311 hitter in the minors.     2 for 12 seems like a good starting point. Lynn's camp can counter 4 for 50. Meet at 3 for 30ish, everybody happy.

    Most home runs by a second baseman in a single season, American League: 40, Brian Dozier. He's been a great Twin for sure.
