Good to see late season promotions for Graterol and Alcala, though it's debatable that Alcala earned it. He's been better since moving to the pen (which is what I have been asking for the entire season), but he needs to prove he can be less hittable. Graterol, on the other hand, should be in the big leagues within the next two weeks, so we can consider his stint at AAA a trial run.

I look forward to when this old style of thinking is dead and gone. Why don't you swing? You potentially hit the ball into play and get out, thus quickening the game. I just find it unbelievable where there is a situation in baseball where you are not allowed to swing at a pitch in the strike zone, and if you do, one of your batters will be hit with a 90+ MPH pitch. Why would it suddenly be OK if Cave swung at a 3-1 pitch and got a hit - would the pitcher get pissy then, to? Why don't the batters just give up and get the game over with? What if the pitcher throws a ball out of the strike zone on the 3-0 count, and Cave swings and misses? Vanimal perfectly stated this - it'd be like if NBA players were not allowed to take shots in a blowout, or how about in soccer, you wouldn't be allowed to attempt shot on goals, you'd just have to kick the ball back and forth, or in hockey, you'd just have to pass the puck back and forth. But no, I guess "this is how baseball is played" - you're only allowed to try and hit in specific situations and appease bad teams and bad pitchers.

Chief, this makes zero sense to me. Cave taking on a 3-0 count likely makes the game go longer as he either takes a walk or takes a strike, and now we have to see another pitcher. Alternatively, swinging at it could potentially lead to an out in the field, which would speed up the game. Alternatively, Kepler gets hit, and now you're putting a runner on base... in a game which is a blowout, in which I thought the point was to speed up the game and get it over with. Only in the backwards sport of baseball are players supposed to stop trying once the score is at a certain point. Why don't we just have a mercy rule? These stupid unwritten rules drive me nuts.

I would look into re-signing Odorizzi and Pineda - I think both can be a bit underrated, and Pineda might improve in his second year after TJ surgery. Odorizzi is pretty darn effective through 4-5 innings, which is a surprisingly uncommon thing these days. I'm done with Gibson, I've seen enough. He can go get overpaid elsewhere.

Front Page: Series Preview: Border Battle Round Two
Danchat replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They looked much better against him when we played this year, but yes, the at bats they had against Hader last year were so bad I'll never forget it. Bobby Wilson looked like he was swinging a giant noodle up at the plate. -
I think Perez and Graterol will be in the pen... and honestly, I think that's the best we can do at this point. If Dyson is up to snuff, our bullpen will be solid with this group - and that's with no sarcasm, I think this is a pretty good group. Now the rotation is what really concerns me, and the only reinforcements they have from the minors is Thorpe... I'm very concerned about them.

Rogers' last 2 weeks: 5.2 IP 0 ERs, 2 Hits, 8/1 K/BB How is that struggling big time? He had also only thrown once in the last week (he didn't between between the 4th and the 10th of August), so I don't buy that he was fatigued by yesterday's 2 inning outing. Sometimes your best reliever fails you - it happened for Cleveland today too.

Did the Twins Miss Out On Zac Gallen?
Danchat commented on Patrick Wozniak's blog entry in Patrick Wozniak's Blog
If I would've known Gallen was available, I would have loved to see the Twins try to acquire him. We could really use a starter like him not only for the playoff run, but for 2020 and on.- 5 comments

Nice article, I like these stats you've brought up. I don't see Berrios-Pineda-Odorizzi holding up very well in a playoff series, but hey, that's what we got at this point.

IMO it makes sense to replace Arraez with another prospect on the list, I don’t think we need to see his numbers here anymore.

Hand hung a breaking ball high and down the middle on his first pitch, but Rosario was under it and missed it. I think he was right to come out swinging at the first pitch.

Nice job, Thorpe, he'll be back up soon when we need a fresh arm. Let's see Graterol take on some AA guys before giving him a shot at the big leagues. He's only just recovered from the shoulder impediment, so it wouldn't be wise to rush things.

I just read that Randy Dobnak is getting called up. I would be fine is this is the last we see of Stewart, he just isn’t MLB caliber and his minor league track record shows that. Here’s hoping Smeltzer will be in the rotation over Perez once pineda is healthy. Wes coaxed one great month out of Perez, but he’s back to the old version he used to be.

Cool to see Jax promoted to AAA. He will need to be added to the 40 man this winter, maybe he can help in 2020.

Front Page: Jonathan Schoop Becoming the Odd Man Out
Danchat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Perhaps the old reverse-jinx article will work some wonders and Schoop will get hot. The "Sano is a fading superstar" article did the trick. I also recall the "stick a fork in 'em" rants from a few years back yielding some very nice results, for those who were around back then.- 39 replies

The Twins Minor league system has had plenty of players tear things up, arrive at the majors, and then get their butts kicked. Remember Yohan Pino, AJ Achter, Adam Brett Walker? No? Jaylin Davis may go on to be a good 4th OF, but calling up hot prospects doesn’t win championships. Jake Cave was crushing AAA as well and check out his stat line!

Front Page: Buxton’s Body and Cave’s Opportunity
Danchat replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Our young phenom’s name is Luis Arraez. The problem is, everyone’s hurt, or we might be seeing Raley or Rooker getting a shot in the outfield. I would give Cave a fair shake, let him get more time with Rowson and Rudy to see if they can get him back to where he was last year. I’d like to see Zander Wiel get a chance, but he shouldn’t be playing CF.- 39 replies

Front Page: Week in Review: Deadline, Dyson, Dingers

Just a housekeeping note here - many of us didn't like how Pineda was removed early from this game as he was just at 81 pitches, but with Pineda hitting the IL, is it possible he was removed early due to the triceps injury? Just a thought.

Don't forget that they have another year of control over Dyson in 2020, which I imagine was a big factor in the price of the trade. I also find it hard to "get played" when a team gives up 3 non top-30 prospects. Davis might become a good MLB player, but with Kepler, Buxton, Rosario, and Rooker, Kiriloff, and Larnach on the way, there wasn't room for him.
