  1. Your response is confusing. In any event the guy is not a good fielder now and he is a long way from the bigs where it would be substantially harder to be a good fielder. So you can do your pie in the sky thing and I will not hold my breath for him to be manning third baseman at Target Field.
  2. I think your observation about the defensive profiles of the guys they draft is an important point. In any event, they don’t have a strong track record of developing strong defensive players (who would be the strongest defender developed in the Falvey era?) so I’m not going to be one to have a lot of confidence in them in that area.
  3. What metric reports for low A ball? He was considered poor as a college third baseman. Scouting reports when he was drafted basically said he would be a DH in the bigs.
  4. Well maybe that’s the crux of the issue. I guess you are right about leaving him there for a longer evaluation. My beef is that the Twins do not seem to possess the evaluation skills to recognize where a player is best suited defensively and make that decision well enough in advance to let them excel. Or it could be their practice to take every poor defender and try and make them more valuable with “versatility” meaning they are poor at multiple positions.
  5. Long way to go but reason to pay attention. Having some idea with four different pitches at that age and some velocity plus being left handed? Yup.
  6. So Amick is on the Austin Martin defensive development plan?
  7. Alcala is not and has never been a high leverage reliever. It has nothing to do with how he has been managed or how his injuries have been taken care of. He doesn’t have command pure and simple. He’s going on 30 and he just isn’t that good. It happens- all the time.
  8. I’m surprised to read the assessment of Amicks defense. Every scouting report Ive read is that Amick is a subpar fielder who stands little chance of playing third at higher levels with no defensive upside. Get him to first now in case he hits so he can be passable at one position. At this point the Twins need to give McCusker a look. Now is a great time with Wallner out. I’m sure the Twins have their internal assessments that apparently say he can’t do it in the bigs but I want to see him get a chance.
  9. Let’s enjoy the Dr Jekyll (or is it Mr Hyde?) period of the Twins offense and hope it lasts as long as possible. Will be interesting to see if another drought lies ahead or if the offense settles into a consistent mode. Ive never understood guys getting their rehab cut short when they aren’t performing at AAA. But here we are again with Lewis searching for his swing and full health while we are trying to win ballgames. Hat tip to the pitching staff. High expectations and they are meeting them.
  10. You are skipping by the obvious and most true answer. Alcala is not that good - it has nothing to do with his usage or chemistry or any other factor. He gets hurt - lots of guys get hurt it’s part of baseball and is rarely someone’s direct fault. This fact is you are not going to carve out some special role for a bottom of the bullpen pitcher. He’s closer to dfa than an important bullpen spot.
  11. No question all three are exceeding most people’s expectations. I look at the France acquisition differently. Bader and Coulombe were / are complimentary pieces. First base is supposed to be a key offensive position; one where you can go with a real slugger who may be limited in other areas. That we don’t have a real slugger for that position and have to have France there indicates a development failure. And nothing against France he is playing to the best of his abilities but this is one of the prices we pay for not developing players well enough.
  12. What good is Alacala if he can pitch one inning every other day? He’s at the bottom of the pecking order not a critical performer to win games.
  13. Buck gets the credit for staying. He took less to stay with the club.
  14. Ok call me a purist or a curmudgeon but Harrison Bader and Henry Aaron should never even be in the same topic of conversation.
  15. He would stand out next to Hank Aaron? Either you are a little excited or completely unaware of Hank Aaron’s career.
  16. Raya has never really put up top notch numbers in the minors which is concerning. He has somehow made it to AAA anyway. He is very much a borderline prospect in my view.
  17. Interesting info - thanks for compiling it. I think some people have positive impressions of the job he has done because he ushered in the analytics era for the Twins. To take a more global view, the job of a POBO involves lots of decisions. Who you hire or fire; who you draft, who you trade and on and on. When judged on that basis Falvey has a mediocre track record - not horrible but not strong enough. One of his downfalls is lack of flexibility in his decision making process. I get the impression that he is open to change but only after the sample size is large enough to make him feel comfortable. Unfortunately in some areas that means entire seasons must pass. IMO the best leaders base their structures around analytics but have enough baseball experience and acumen to adjust before the answer is plain to see for everyone.
  18. I don’t know if he will hit but he never playing third in the bigs. Get him to first now so he can be competent there in case he does hit. You don’t develop plus fielders at a given position by not having them play there.
  19. I think this is correct. FWIW Brooks looks better at third than second to me.
  20. I think they are interesting to look at mainly to confirm or deny what my impression was of the game. I don’t blame them for outcomes.
  21. Didn’t see the game but I bet it was fun watching Buck score from first on that double.
  22. Julien babip in 2023 was 373. He hasn’t been good otherwise.
  23. It makes me really nervous that Em Rod has a similar hitting profile to Julien. I think his bust potential is higher than people around here would like to admit. He does bring something with the glove so that helps.
  24. I think both are in trouble but of the two Miranda has the better chance. He has to learn the strike zone which is in his control theoretically. Julien just can’t hit MLB pitching which is outside his control. Given that both are liabilities in the field and bad baserunners I’m not sure there is much point in waiting around.
