  1. I would’ve walked Nootbar, even if they had another left-handed bat. Nootbars numbers are good against the Twins.
  2. Driving up for Tuesday and Wednesday’s game from Indianapolis tomorrow. Couple tough pitching matchups, but I think a sweep is a good possibility. GO TWINS!!!!
  3. Watching the Atlanta Philadelphia game, and the announcer just stated that Atlanta’s hitters were the second highest strikeout team in the majors last year. This year they struck out fourth least in major league baseball. It would be interesting to see how they turned that around. Probably not just one thing, and I don’t know if it’s stemmed from an overall approach by their batting coaches, but maybe the Twins could effect the same change. I don’t think they’re gonna be able to get much better until they lower their strikeout rate.
  4. In 1961 when I was 10 years old, I was playing Little League in Indianapolis IN, and my team was the Minnesota Twins. I figured that I liked playing baseball by that age and I need to start following the major leagues so I promptly became a Twins fan. I could tune in games on either WHO Iowa station or WCCO when the skies were clear after about 9 pm eastern time. When I listened and the skies were not very clear, I would make out about one out of every five words and try to piece the broadcast together to tell what was going on in the game. Finally broadcast.com came about and I was able to listen to Twins games and hear everything. A lot of ups and downs over the years, but I’ve been a staunch, diehard Twins fan the whole time. I played at Twins fantasy camp about five years ago, and had the time of my life. I got to play for coaches Kent Hrbek, and Tom Brunanskys’ team. I got to meet et a lot of great guys and former players. GO TWINS!!!
  5. I agree with your comments about Duran. He is relying so much on the curveball and the splinker. When he throws the fastball he doesn’t get many swings and misses. They foul those off, and then he comes back eventually with a breaking pitch, and they seem to be nailing those. He gets into unfavorable counts because he can’t throw strikes at times. Not a good practice when they’re wanting him to go 2 innings.
  6. The Twins sure are wasting a lot of good pitching. The bases loaded situation was really frustrating. Miranda gets himself out on a high pitch, and Gordon takes two balls then swings at the last two pitches that also were balls fouling off the first, and hitting a weak double play grounder to end it. Swinging at those pitches is a big reason they’re 4 for 35 with the bases loaded.
  7. I agree, what happened to the emphasis on the running game stealing some bases? They’ve tried three times this year. Also, what about trying to suicide squeeze with Castro on third and Taylor up with two outs in the eighth. I would think that would be a better chance to tie it up than Taylor getting a hit. At this point he looks pretty clueless.
  8. No, it wasn’t in hindsight I felt that at the time. I believe that’s what the discussion on the mound was about also and they made the wrong decision. Walk him and set up a force. You can throw all the averages out there, but a lefty facing righty in that situation with first base open was not smart.
  9. Sorry, I disagree. We are trying to win a game. Three relievers in an inning is no big deal. They’ve got a day off tomorrow. You just don’t pitch to Soler in that situation.
  10. Why didn’t they walk Soler in the eighth and bring in a right hander to pitch to Cooper? Even if they pinch hit a lefthander I would rather face whoever that is than pitch to Soler. He already burned them once, and is one of the best hitters in their lineup.
  11. Knowing now that Merrifield slid into him intentionally to elicit the call based on the rule I wish he would’ve broken his leg
  12. Baldelli should’ve walked Sheets. His run meant nothing, and a right hander Burger was on deck. They would’ve had a force play/double play set up. Was really their only chance of getting out of that mess.
