  1. Cinci might grab Giolito. Makes sense for Marlins to take one of both of the good relievers, certainly Moore. We could use almost any of the relievers, quite honestly. Do we want Sands on our playoff roster? Floro? We find out this afternoon, fingers crossed.
  2. I heard on the TV broadcast about a month ago that the coaches were trying to get Duran to throw more breaking balls, arguing it is actually his best pitch. Disagree in concept: It CAN be his best pitch, when it is set up by his devastating FB. They have the cart and horse mixed up on their pitch sequencing. Get the batter geared up to hit the heat, THEN drop in the curve out of the zone to see if they will chase.
  3. I agree with Schmoeman. Wallner speedy and aggressive coming in on balls, very shaky going back, especially in RF at Target, as he clearly is cautious about the wall and rebounds off the structures. The game where Keuchel carried the no hitter into the 7th, the first hit surrendered was a ball up against the padded area of Right Center that Kepler might have caught. Wallner had no chance at it, he started back, gave up, and then tried to play the bounce.
  4. I have a weird feeling this may be Gallo's last game for the Twins..... Amazingly potent swing, just doesn't contact the baseball often enough to be viable.
  5. All 3 relievers, please. Hope to get one of them. Really like Moore.
  6. Giolito is ineligible for a QO draft pick since he was traded at the deadline. Complete salary dump by the Angels, perfectly understandable after what they have gone through the last 2 weeks. Brutal.
  7. The other component is that the Twins got a nice SP in Maeda at a ridiculously low contract price. Complete bargain.
  8. Astros are a tough matchup. Great lefty starter, massive playoff success already accomplished, and the Twins with a huge playoff voodoo hex looming over them. Would prefer to meet another team.....
  9. A reasonable argument could be made to add both Castro and Martin. Luplow obvious target. Gallo or one of the marginal pitchers could be another spot. It gives the Twins a ton of flexibility in tight playoff games with PH and PR options and plenty of positions covered.
  10. Can someone explain how the requirement to be "on the roster" on September 1 to be eligible for the playoffs works? Does that mean the 40 man roster? So can someone on the 40 man who is on the DL now still qualify for the playoffs? Thanks!
  11. The good news is that the Twins don't need to make this decision now. They have a fourth of the season left to play out, see how Polanco hits and fields, and whether he stays healthy.
  12. This AZ hurler is very, very impressive.
  13. Any update on Lewis? Seems like he should be about ready to start a rehab assignment? I think Mr. Gallo is finally exhausting even this FO's patience. He has been given every possible opportunity and just seems to be unable to hit any more. 3 K's last night with only a single foul tip on a night where the opposing pitching seemed quite hittable by everyone else in the lineup.....
  14. Long term, there seems little doubt that Byron will need at least one knee arthroplasty. Short term, it truly does handcuff the team to have a part time player who only DH's. I am not sure we are at this point yet, but eventually Bryon may need to sit down and decide if he is capable of continuing to play this game he clearly loves. I am hopeful the Twins have insurance on his deal so they will not have to write off the entire guaranteed salary and curtail their options for salaries if he does need/decide to pull the plug. Very sad situation.
  15. At a minimum clear out some of the dead, veteran wood and promote some of the minor league players to see if they can play at the MLB level and possibly provide a spark, ala Julien and Wallner. Please.
  16. When is Lewis coming back? I have read no reporting that gives anything definitive. They need him, badly.
  17. Me, I would trade/let go Taylor and bring up Stevenson to see if he is a late-blooming player or not. Keirsey can get promoted to AAA and see if he can handle that level of pitching. I would do the same with Gallo and bring up either Larnach or Prato. I would trade one of Farmer or Solano and bring up Lee. They are not going to do anything in the post season--assuming they make it--unless they find some more offensive weapons and they might as well explore in-house options first. On the pitching side I would look to trade Maeda for a good bullpen piece, unless they have had good discussions on a new contract extension beyond this year. He has pitched very well since his return.
  18. The "Captain America" nickname fits his personality; It would be wonderful if he blossoms into a superstar.
  19. I have heard absolutely no news that the Twins have tried to extend Gray. So the trade off is 9 more starts from Gray and a sandwich comp pick when he rejects the QO (and potential playoff start(s)) VS. Trade value return. I would submit that better be a pretty strong trade value to make that trade.
  20. The Twins should not move Gray unless the return is greater than the sandwich pick they will receive after he rejects their QO at the end of season. If they want to package Gray with someone like Larnach to add to a deal, sure. Maybe someone wants a veteran bat like Solano, so he could be in the mix if Polanco's return is imminent. Maeda has been pitching very well since his return, but since he is a pending FA they could deal him, but that would certainly hurt their prospects for the balance of the year.
  21. Boy, this would be a MAJOR letdown if the Twins can't sign Jenkins. The only sources of solace would be if they can sign both the late picks with the extra bonus money and then pick wisely next year at 6. But, man, that would be such a disappointment. I would love to be the fly on the wall on these negotiations to get the real scoop.
  22. Yeah, so tight with Boras we can't get our draft pick signed.....it is a business. Sure, you can scratch each other's backs, but Boras has an ethical obligation to maximize the return for each client, not trade one off for another.
  23. If we could trade Larnach or Wallner for their "right handed clones", e.g., an equivalent player who hits right handed, that would be fine with me.
  24. Awfully snarky in here, and game hasn't even started yet. At least the puns are rolling in....:)
