    Buxton to 1B: I am reminded of that Scott Hatterburg scene from Moneyball. "It is incredibly difficult". :)

    Twins are going to draft Max Clark at 5 and he should be the CF of the future. Ok using Taylor for another year or one of the younger players, but they should be place-holders if this young man is a good as he seems to be. Plus-plus speed, plus-plus arm (he throws 97 from the mound), plus hit and developing power. Would love to see the Twins develop a super-star caliber CF!

    Watching video and interviews of Clark, he appears very confident, poised and mature for his young age. I get this weird vibe of a combination of Lenny Dykstra and a young Pete Rose. If they pass on one of the top 5 that drops to them they are playing with fire....

    Skenes in 2 CWS starts: 15.2 innings pitched, 7 hits allowed, 3 BB's, 21 K's, 2 earned runs against Tennessee and Wake Forest. If he is--for some reason--sitting there at 5 and the Twins pass I will be dismayed and astonished.

    No way with his current contract, possibly as a waiver claim at the pro-rated league minimum. Doesn't seem to move the needle much, but might add to depth depending on health of existing roster.

    I know this thread is about pick 49, but I really like the fire in this Clark kid. Apparently there are "personality" concerns, but who cares if he has a strong personality? They can't all be choir boys, and he looks to have immense talent and feisty.

    Sorry, but Hrbek was the best 1B in Twins history IMO. If Morneau had stayed healthy, probably surpasses Kent.

    Steer 3 for 6 today, a single short of the cycle, 9 total bases. Hitting up to .284, OBS .841. That trade is looking brutal and worse every day.....

    I would put Lewis at SS and keep Farmer at 3B. When Carlos returns, move Lewis to 3B and move Farmer to 2B until Polanco returns. Lots of mix and match combos depending on who is healthy. This is the Dodger way, with multiple position flexibility.

    I really like Gallo, think people here underrate his defense and versatility, but there is some recency bias with these comments. Remember, he had not hit a home run for 3 weeks before last night. Solid signing by this FO.

    I happen to live 10 minutes away from where Walker Jenkins plays HS ball. Went to a couple games, first HS BB games I have watched in eons. Huge crowd. At least 10 video cameras set up behind the plate. Allegedly several pro scouts in attendance. Walker is a man amongst boys at this stage. Tall, rangy kid with a sweet left handed swing. Moves well, glides around the outfield and good, not great, arm based on watching warmup throws. Hitting, tough to judge as they wont pitch to him. Opposing pitchers get fired up and throw as hard as they can, and then come nowhere near the strike zone. He gets jeered by the opposing fans, too. Part of that may be due to the shocking neon orange cleats he wears! I have no idea how you can possibly project a young man like this. He looks terrific, but he is playing so far below his level that it is all guesswork. I guess that is why scouts and FO people make the big bucks..... Me, I would prefer drafting a more sure-fire college prospect, but I would take a conservative approach with the 5th overall pick.

    Sorry, should have been more clear. 3 years, $5M per year, $15M total. Hell no, not offering $15M per year. As for incentives, sure. All Star, certain number of starts, ERA, WAR, whatever floats their boat. Any team would be happy to pay well-earned incentive bonuses.

    Offer him 3 years, $15M. If he balks, he walks. Tough to get a good contract at his age and his injury history, now undergoing TJS. Not trying to be harsh, but that would be a fair sharing of risk for both parties. Turns out to be a HORRIBLE trade by the FO. 10 starts over 2 seasons for 3 legit, good prospects/players. Yikes.

    Regarding CF, obviously Michael Taylor is default. Buxton CAN play CF if there was an in-game injury (might lose DH). Kepler can play CF. Gallo can play CF. The latter 2 are serviceable, but downgrades from Taylor and Buxton. The Twins FO emulating the Dodgers' flexible roster is paying dividends. We also currently have Gordon, and Castro is much more likely to be sent down.

    It is a black eye to MLB that it took them so long and protracted litigation to treat these young men fairly. Glad it is finally accomplished, and also glad MLB players chose to support and negotiate on behalf of the younger, less accomplished brethren.

    Homer of Megill today was a first-pitch fastball right down the middle that the left handed Pirate hitter no-doubted out of the stadium. Right fielder never moved. Megill throws hard, but it looks like his fastball has zero movement. Straight as an arrow.

    I would not fire sale Kepler at all. He is still a decent player who may hit for higher average with the shift banned. His defense is rock solid and he is, by all accounts, a good clubhouse teammate. I like a potential OF of Gallo-Buxton-Kepler. Terrific speed and range, and good to great arms. Probably best defensive OF in baseball (when Buxton plays). Gordon as backup is solid as well, and Larnach may surprise too. If they can get good pitching for Max, sure, but not just to trade him for mediocre talent.

    It is not just the fractured fibula, it is the plate they put in and the likelihood of arthritis setting in. Heck, it might already be present, and it is not going to get better with time. Still expect the Mets and Correa/Boras to hammer out a deal, but with the passage of time things certainly are getting more interesting....

    I was also offline all day and fully expected to read tonight that Correa and the Mets had worked out a new deal. Still expect that to happen, but the longer it is taking, the more it seems other options may materialize.

    I, too, would be much happier with a higher AAV, shorter deal. Something like 6/$220M would make more sense--to the extent that is even possible--than they decades plus long deals getting signed and are manifestly silly.

    Twins will--and should--roll with Miranda at 3B this year. Need to see what his glove and bat bring to the future.

    Devers much more likely to go to a team "on the brink" of championship to "put them over the top". The fit for the Twins is virtually non-existent. Only one year, probably can't extend him, Twins don't need a 3B, Twins don't need more left handed bats, etc., etc.

    If Correa was not the poster child for the Astros' cheating he would never have played for the Twins. He may end up re-signing with the Twins, likely for the same reasons. Teams like the Dodgers simply are not going to infuriate their fan base by signing the guy, even if he would improve their team. Yankees may feel the same way. If he were "clean", he would have signed a mega-deal last offseason and we would not be in the discussion.
