  1. Astros are a tough matchup. Great lefty starter, massive playoff success already accomplished, and the Twins with a huge playoff voodoo hex looming over them. Would prefer to meet another team.....
  2. A reasonable argument could be made to add both Castro and Martin. Luplow obvious target. Gallo or one of the marginal pitchers could be another spot. It gives the Twins a ton of flexibility in tight playoff games with PH and PR options and plenty of positions covered.
  3. Can someone explain how the requirement to be "on the roster" on September 1 to be eligible for the playoffs works? Does that mean the 40 man roster? So can someone on the 40 man who is on the DL now still qualify for the playoffs? Thanks!
  4. The good news is that the Twins don't need to make this decision now. They have a fourth of the season left to play out, see how Polanco hits and fields, and whether he stays healthy.
  5. Long term, there seems little doubt that Byron will need at least one knee arthroplasty. Short term, it truly does handcuff the team to have a part time player who only DH's. I am not sure we are at this point yet, but eventually Bryon may need to sit down and decide if he is capable of continuing to play this game he clearly loves. I am hopeful the Twins have insurance on his deal so they will not have to write off the entire guaranteed salary and curtail their options for salaries if he does need/decide to pull the plug. Very sad situation.
  6. At a minimum clear out some of the dead, veteran wood and promote some of the minor league players to see if they can play at the MLB level and possibly provide a spark, ala Julien and Wallner. Please.
  7. When is Lewis coming back? I have read no reporting that gives anything definitive. They need him, badly.
  8. Me, I would trade/let go Taylor and bring up Stevenson to see if he is a late-blooming player or not. Keirsey can get promoted to AAA and see if he can handle that level of pitching. I would do the same with Gallo and bring up either Larnach or Prato. I would trade one of Farmer or Solano and bring up Lee. They are not going to do anything in the post season--assuming they make it--unless they find some more offensive weapons and they might as well explore in-house options first. On the pitching side I would look to trade Maeda for a good bullpen piece, unless they have had good discussions on a new contract extension beyond this year. He has pitched very well since his return.
  9. The "Captain America" nickname fits his personality; It would be wonderful if he blossoms into a superstar.
  10. I have heard absolutely no news that the Twins have tried to extend Gray. So the trade off is 9 more starts from Gray and a sandwich comp pick when he rejects the QO (and potential playoff start(s)) VS. Trade value return. I would submit that better be a pretty strong trade value to make that trade.
  11. The Twins should not move Gray unless the return is greater than the sandwich pick they will receive after he rejects their QO at the end of season. If they want to package Gray with someone like Larnach to add to a deal, sure. Maybe someone wants a veteran bat like Solano, so he could be in the mix if Polanco's return is imminent. Maeda has been pitching very well since his return, but since he is a pending FA they could deal him, but that would certainly hurt their prospects for the balance of the year.
  12. Yeah, so tight with Boras we can't get our draft pick signed.....it is a business. Sure, you can scratch each other's backs, but Boras has an ethical obligation to maximize the return for each client, not trade one off for another.
  13. If we could trade Larnach or Wallner for their "right handed clones", e.g., an equivalent player who hits right handed, that would be fine with me.

  15. Only the Twins could be outhitting their opponents 9 to 7, have 3 walks vs. 4, AND have 2 more extra base hits and be losing badly by 4 runs after 7. Not sure any other team capable of the level of ineptitude. Going to bed, this is dreck baseball to watch.
  16. The story of this Twins season is failure to score with men in scoring position. Period. Nothing else to say. Except: They suck at clutch hitting.
  17. If you think about it, it is actually pretty difficult to have 3 doubles, 4 singles and a walk in 5 innings and only score 2 runs. Twins have left 6 on base though 5. Sheesh, if only they had someone that could hit in the clutch consistently....
  18. That Stat for Gallo, by the way, is easily the most mind-blowing stat in all of professional sports. It is simply unfathomable that he only has 3 SF's in 2569 at bats in his career. Someone smarter than me could probably determine how many times he came up with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs, but certainly many, many times more than 3 in all those AB's.
  19. Mr. Gray is dealing tonight, only 35 pitches through 3, 22 for strikes. Keep it going!
  20. Twins are up vs. a tough pitcher, and said pitcher has had to throw 70 pitches to get through only 3 innings. Bodes well for a long series if we can get into their bullpen early and often. AK with a professional at bat there. I wonder if Gallo was watching. That, young man, is called a Sacrifice Fly.
  21. It would have to be a heck of an offer, well above the QO pick slot. Maybe the Reds for CES and Steer? LOL! We could throw in Mahle, too....
  22. Excellent article and analysis. I am getting a bit nervous on the top 2 picks signing, but hope they had discussions on amounts before the picks were made.
  23. I would put Polanco at 3B until Lewis gets back, if ever, this year. Send Miranda down when he comes off the IL. If they decide to give Buxton a day off, let Julien DH, Farmer to 3rd, Polanco to 2nd. Try and keep everyone healthy.
  24. Wallner now up with Miranda to IL. Hope he performs well and he is up for good!
  25. The other thing in this situation that is puzzling to me is the apparent deference to Kepler indicating he does not want to play CF. He can do so, not at a Buxton level, but if Kepler shifts to CF vs. RH starters this opens up lots more lineup optons for Rocco. Does a mediocre hitter on the last year of his guaranteed contract get to tell the Coach where he will and wont play? And I like Kepler as a person based on his interviews, but he would certainly help out the team if he would play in CF....
