  1. So you bat a hitter lead off so the guy that replaces him gets more at bats? Really? You could have said he was 4 for his last 8 and people have been begging Rocco to play guys that are hot, at least there is logic to that. The Twins did what they are supposed to do and that is bat around a not very good pitcher and the other manager said screw it why waste the pen on a day Corbin is pitching. Now go do the same to Irvin (from Bloomington).
  2. Well as a fan my mentality doesn't produce wins or losses. You can be a realist fan or unrealistic fan that is up to each individual. I was hoping for a sweep would have been super happy with two wins, but expecting the Twins to go 1 - 2 against a better team. My point was this series wouldn't have anything to do with playing the Yankees in the playoffs because hopefully they would have Lewis, Buxton and Stewart and that would help even out the teams.
  3. Again it was 1 loss, not the end of the season. The Yanks have pitched Rondon and Stroman the last two games both are probably better than any Twins starter pitcher (of course any Twins starter on their good day can be as good or better but on average) The Yanks lineup top to bottom is better as well, so any game against them is going to be tough and they have to play good smart baseball. Winning 1 of 3 should have been the hope of this series and they still have a chance today. Losing all three isn't the end of the world either, they are without Lewis, Buxton and Stewart. So lets have Ryan good out and give the team a chance, don't make bone headed plays, and get a few hits, win and focus on Cleveland.
  4. My thoughts are he will be treated like all these younger starters have been, he will be given a couple of starts this year, Start next year in AAA as the number 1 replacement starter, hopefully he thrives and move into the rotation full time in 26. That way he becomes the next cheap controllable starter for a few years, don't mean that as a bad thing, but if they can get Ober, Ryan, and his prime years for cheap, they can trade them before making the big money and replenish.
  5. There are 5 catchers in baseball that have more at bats than any twin. Castro is tied for 100th in MLB at bats. 13 catchers have more at bats than Jeffers. There is zero reason to talk load MGMT with the offensive players on the Twins.
  6. This article continues to not age well. Vazquez like farmer are black holes in the lineup.
  7. Just like they last loss it isn't the end of the world, they are going to lose another 50 plus games this year. But even Rocco had to realize this was going to be a very tough game to win when he was writing out the lineup card. At some point don't they have to do something with Vazquez (maybe a injury)? Since going 7/12 in a three games at the end of last month he is 1/28 with 11 K's. Actually if you take out those 3 games he is hitting .103 for the year. Having him, farmer and Martin hitting back to back to back is giving the other team's pitchers a relative break.
  8. I will add my son decided not to watch the game last night, after seeing the starting lineup, he said to me another game where the hottest guys are not playing, then he asked me to tell him with Soto and Judge where up. As a baseball fan their are a couple of options to say to him, one that is to say you are just not smart enough to understand the genius of baseball or try to explain why the Twins set the lineup that way and that Margot somehow is in the game is an advantage, neither are great ways to lure the next generation to the game.
  9. My comment wasn't about me, it was about the link posted and age of baseball fans.
  10. Do you watch games with teenagers or watch with people in their mid 20's? My son is 16 and my daughters boyfriend is 26? I watch and have watched games with both of them and their friends, and that is by far and away their biggest compliant of the games. As old guys we can b!tch and moan about the younger fans and why they are aren't watching baseball but as the link I originally replied to at this rate base is a dying sport if they can't figure out a way to get the young people engaged.
  11. the stats I am talking about is the ones that are expected or projected, the ones that tell people their lying eyes are not seeing what they are seeing. I am not talking about Launch angle, exit velocity and WAR or stuff like that. The NFL stats are basically counting stats and rating stats, not stats that say the QB that threw 2 interceptions and a bunch of incomplete passes, played really well based on what should have happened on those plays. Not sure about Hockey or NBA but the little I watch I don't hear the people telling me how well people played based on expectations when the player obviously didn't have a great game.
  12. Wait so over complicated stats that don't always match up with the eye test, high costs to attend and not having games available to see is hurting the attendance with the younger audience? Strange! /s
  13. It seems obvious to me, he has options. Prior to this year he hasn't done much to show he deserves to be at the back of the pen or healthy enough. His best year he had a 3.92 ERA and blew 6 of 14 hold/save situations with 3 wins and 6 loses. It isn't like he has done with Duran has done. If the twins are unwilling to do anything with pitchers that have no options, the ones with options will be up and down until they don't have any longer.
  14. My son and I have watched just about every game this year and this seems like a big difference in the approach from the beginning of the year until now. Jeffers for one was taking huge swings and sometimes falling to his knees to a less violent swing right about the time he starting getting hot. Miranda has going with the pitch, slashing lineup drives to right fields, Even Kepler looks like he is trying less to pull pitches that shouldn't be pulled and going with where it is pitched. To me it seems like somebody told them you don't have to swing has hard as you can to hit the ball hard, it is more important to barrel up the ball and hit it hard and good things happen. I mean they are still wildly swinging on occasion but it seems like it happens in hitter friendly counts.
  15. I was for the trade at the time, and will always be for trades like that (just like trading Cruz), so this trade goes in the win column for this FO. Bringing up the Pressly trade in this article seems odd since Jorge almost 29 and spent part of 6 seasons on the Twins, and has 1 save, 15 holds and 6 blown saves, besides being cheap and having options I am not sure he would be considered anything more than a decent get at fairly high cost.
  16. Just to be clear we are talking about a guy that has a lower WAR than Royce Lewis and is 8th on the Twins in OPS? He was horrible for about 25 games, and has been somewhere between decent and good for two weeks and were supposed to change our minds on if we liked the signing? This is a silly thread.
  17. Defense is part of the game, not the game IMO. If you put 8 guys on the field that played defense like Vazquez and hit like him how would that team perform? Like I said above Vazquez value mostly comes from how well Jeffers is playing, because if Jeffers was hitting like Rortvedt prior to this year we would be screaming about how the Twins catcher duo is bringing the team down. So we should all be hoping Jeffers continues to play this way.
  18. To me the correct and easy decision is cutting/trade Santana, he offers no positional flexibility (and hasn't been very good) and with the way Jeffers is hitting he needs to be in the lineup almost every day, which means DH on the days that Vaquez catchers (which should be 75% of the time). They need Farmer to back up multiple infield positions, and they could platoon AK/Miranda at first. Plus I would rather have Farmer on the team than Santana for flexibility, speed, bunting and what not. Do I think that is what will happen, I do not.
  19. IMO, Vazquez value comes (at this time) from how Jeffers performs, if Jeffers is hitting like he is than Vazquez is more valuable, if Jeffers is not hitting and Vazquez continues to not than his value isn't as high or could possibly is negative. With that said I hope Jeffers continue to crush it and Vazquez continues to crush the defense and his bat get back to at least last year.
  20. For a guy that most was already carving his tombstone what a resurgence. Good for him, the Twins and the fans. On TV they keep saying he is doing better since he starting striking out more, to me it looks like he is doing better because he isn't trying to pull every ball over the fence and because of that is barrelling up the ball. Whatever it is Max keep doing what you are doing.
  21. 2015 – Moran, Stashak 2014 - Nick Burdi, Sam Clay, Jake Reed, John Curtiss, Trevor Hildenberger 2013 – Aaron Slegers 2012 – Berrios, Luke Bard, JT Chargois, Tyler Duffey, Taylor Rogers Added a few years
  22. 100% agree they should get credit helping Ryan become the starter he is and the trade, but you are correct they didn't develop him. If people think that the pipeline is only about drafting player, than IMO they are wrong. All teams need to trade for young guys and develop them as well as drafting them (Gil, Alcala, SWR, Duran for example ) and possibly get guys that other teams see as relief pitchers and develop them into starters. If others want to say they used their pipeline (Petty) for example to shore up the major league roster, I think that would be a valid argument (Developing guys other teams see as viable pieces), I don't believe it is a sustainable long term strategy but can be a home run short term. Like I mentioned before this isn't a complaint on the Twins it is criticism of the article and its timing.
  23. Seattle and Detroit have both played 37 games this year, so by all means totally discount 34 and 30 games. Not sure, but are you saying the Twins staff is the one that isn't very good? Varland had a 3 games stretch against Houston, LAA and SD last year would we ignore all his other starts as well. It is like you didn't even read what I wrote and piped to defend something that didn't need defending and then did it with out any facts to back it up? When in reality this article was about the Twins Latest Testament to the youth pitching pipeline. Here is what I wrote to remind you - But lets be real here, he has faced Det, White Sox (2) and Seattle, 3 of the worst 8 hitting teams in the league, lets let him settle in before anointing him a MLB starter ( I would hope we would have learned that from Varland)
  24. Det OPS - 23rd - .662 CWS OPS - 30th - .598 Sea OPS - 24th - .667 do you like BA better, 23rd, 25th, 29th, or maybe you like K's better 1st, 7th, 15th, or maybe OBP 22nd, 22nd, 30th, or maybe SLG 21st, 23rd, 30th. You may not buy it the the facts and stats are what they are. And wonderful a 26 year old doing well in AAA, I hope Varland get things figured out but until he does, it don't me a thing.
  25. Who is doing this? The title of the article is - "The Latest Testament to the Minnesota Twins Pitching Pipeline" and the first line of the article is - "They brought in Derek Falvey to create a reliable pipeline of young pitching, and this week has brought confirmation that the project is succeeding. " I don't see people complaining about the FO and the job they are doing with the major league roster, I see people commenting on the article and how it was written. Then look at @USAFChief post, I believe the comments are based on the article not at the current state of the Twins!
