  1. In today's game Viola would never been allowed to pitch the way he did in 82 and 83, he averaged almost 6 innings in 82 and over 6 innings in 83. He would be babied just like the rest of the pitchers are and never would have been allowed to average over 250 innings a year and start 35 games for the next 10 years. His rookie season he started 22 games and pitched 126 innings at age 22, compared to Ober (26) who started 20 games and pitched 92.1 innings. and the ERA's are 5,21 and 4.19, this isn't say anything but lets not say what Viola did was a dumpster fire. With that said there is no real reason to not have Duran and Winder in MPLS to start the season.
  2. Quite of few of the comments seem Eerily similiar to the comment last year after signing Shoemaker. IMO, it would be better to start with Gray, Ryan, Bundy, Ober and Winder and have the plan be Archer in the pen and move into the rotation if injury or if one of the starters stumble. That way if Archer is bad in the pen, they could get rid of him before suffering though a bunch of bad starts.
  3. I want some combination of Buxton, Polanco, Correa at 1-3. verses Lefties 4. Sano (1B) 5. AK (LF) 6. Urshela (3B) 7. Sanchez (DH) 8 Kepler (LF) 9. Jeffers (C) verses Righties 4. AK (LF) 5. Arraez (DH) 6. Sano (1B) 7. Kepler (LF) 8. Urshela (3B) 9. Jeffers (C)
  4. I was at Berrios last start against the Phillies (last Wednesday), and he didn't look good at all.
  5. The Twins won 101 games in 2019, the FO in 2019 was the same FO we have currently. I find it hard to believe that a team that won 101 games was virtually a whole team away from wining, but a last place team is just oh so close that the fans are OK with them trading away prospects that have been so coveted the last few years that they couldn't possibly be traded. Any topic that talks about this FO it is relevant to talk about all the things they have done or not done. I totally get people/fans want the Twins to just do something that doesn't make the team worse and give them something to cheer for, but letting them completely off the hook, well I don't have to. You can and that is your opinion and I can respect that, can you do the same?
  6. If they can trade the trash (Cotton, Garza, Henriquez, Jax, Moran, Sands, Strotman, Thrope, Vallimont) off the 40 for Montas that would be great but giving up any real prospect after not giving up a prospect when they were actually good should be considered unacceptable.
  7. To me this is unacceptable trading away prospects for a team coming off of a last place finish, when this all could have been solved with money, Because when they actually had a chance and a good team they didn't trade one damn prospect to put them over the edge. This FO is a joke!
  8. If nothing changes, I would much rather see (and by see I don't mean watching because I won't be) them using the multitude of prospects on the 40 man doing this than Archer or any other FA. I don't want to the Twins to bring in any pitcher (non-relief) that can't be expected to pitch 5+ innings every game. Anybody they plan on bringing in that gives them less is just blocking prospects that are already too old to be in the minors and considered real prospects.
  9. The only positive I can take away is, nobody besides Sands will likely see the bigs this year. (Pitchers that is)
  10. So is it good, that Seattle let him go, and San Fran let him go within 4 days of claiming him? Which also leaves the Giants with just 2 catchers on their 40 man.
  11. You might be correct, but put in that Yankees lineup, I would expect nothing less than the offense numbers he put up last year and maybe close to 2019. I would bet (and I have with a friend) that his .OBP and SLG will be higher than Story's next year. (I hope I am wrong if the Twins sign Story)
  12. I think if this happens, you put Miranda at 3B, SS, Polonco, Sano/AK, Gio as SS and 3B back up, Arraez at 2B and Left Field back and DH. That seems pretty shored up, leaves Gordon in AAA. It isn't like they are going to go out and get great pitching because their two best trade assets, can't be traded in this scenario (Martin and Lewis). They could trade from the pitching prospects, but I highly doubt they will since they wouldn't do it while they were competing and winning division titles, on top of that fact the future of this team depends on those prospects working out. I realize there are many ways to play this out, like trading Arraez, but I just don't see the upside of 1 year unless it is way less then the prices talked about.
  13. So the Twins are only a Story or Correa away from competing? I disagree with that, they could have kept Donaldson and spent the other money on somebody else and got the same results. I guess one could argue that if they aren't competing they could trade them at the deadline, but how much are you getting for 3 months of a player? Or what happens if the prospects don't work out? Signing anybody for 1 year besides a relief pitcher seems like a way for the FO and owner to say look we spent money and it didn't work out.
  14. This reply isn't meant for you, but everybody. What good does signing either one for 1 year do to help the Twins? Even two years seems silly, if you aren't going 3 years at least; signing either doesn't make any sense, other them to spend the owners money.
  15. I would not pay that kind of money, I would use the Pohlads money though, not sure what 1 year does for the Twins, but I don't care about owners that are willing to spend 50 million less than last year
  16. It is my son's birthday next week and he has outgrown his Buxton jersey, I said a new jersey would be a good present, he said "Yes, I will take a Vlad Jr jersey" , I asked why Vlad, and he said well we were at Niagara Falls when he won the home run derby, and a bunch of kids in his school have jumped on the Blue Jay bandwagon. (Not a good sign for the twins, that the teenagers are cheering for other teams. We will be in St. Petes next week and guess which team he wants to go see in spring training (FYI, it isn't the Twins, again I asked why and he said "besides Buxton and Sano, I don't know any of the players, I asked about Polanco, and he said oh yea forgot about him, still want to go see the Jays" My teenager and his friends can't be the only ones turning away from the Twins?
  17. Don't they have to use them, I mean they can't continue to hoard old pitching prospects in the minors, can they?
  18. Correct me if I am wrong but they have to add somebody before then can move them? (meaning you have to get to 40 before moving to the 60 day)
  19. For this scenario to work, don't the Twins have make a bunch of moves, getting a second catcher, probably trading Sano, so AK can play first, and hoping Rooker and or Laranch are a capable LF? Possibly move Arraez? Seems like a lot just to get a not very good hitter to DH? To me he makes no sense on this team if you have Sano. A back up catcher that can't catch and currently can't DH because you can't start both of your catchers, can you?
  20. If AK is not healthy, he also isn't a major league player. Gordon is a backup, and if somebody gets hurt he slides into a starting role, and who slides into his role? Rooker right now is a starter, unless the Twins plan to have both of their catchers in the starting lineup daily or Larnach starts in LF, Sano at DH and AK at 1B. As for Jeffers, I would prefer he starts as the back up catcher, until he forces his way to the main catcher. I have nothing against young guys, I am not a fan of throwing a bunch out at once and hoping it works, is usually doesn't, or it does but not in the near future. If you think the way the 40 man is constructed as of today is good and well prepared for a 162 game schedule, that is great, I don't but we don't all have to agree, which is what makes this great.
  21. Can't disagree with anything you said, as of today it doesn't look good for the Good Guys (Twins ?)
  22. At this point, Gordon, Rooker, Laranch, and even AK until he proves healthy. (which hopefully is right away in spring training) And currently the starting catcher hit .199 last year. Which I expect he will be better, but... I am fine with giving 1 spot to unproven minor league player (for example 3B to Miranda or AK in LF) but giving more than 1 spot to somebody with really no back up plan, turns seasons in 2021.
  23. Laranch, Gordon, Celestiono, Miranda, Rooker, Lewis and maybe AK not be being part of plan A. Getting a decent LF that can be made the 4th OF if one of the outfielders force their way up. Miranda to be called up for 1B, 3B, DH if something goes bad or just start him at 3B and make Urshela the roving back up infieler. Gordon to be a guy brought up to be back up SS, 2B, CF if needed. Tell Lewis to get comfortable and get his game back and his time will come when he is ready, he won't be forced into action. Maybe have a 3rd catcher on the 40? Get rid of some of the log jam of pitchers on the 40. How can a team carry Valliont, Thorpe, Strotman, Sands, Moran, Jax, Henrquez, Graza with no earthly idea if they are major league pitchers.
  24. Well of course it is AAA players, but the Twins Plan A already has too many AAA players IMO. They have basically zero depth, because their 40 man is loaded with pitching prospects that are completely untested. So as of now if Jeffers starts out this year like last year (or Gaby gets hurt), they have to somebody or put somebody on the 60 day just to have a back up catcher. If Laranch hits like last year, the back up is another guy that couldn't hit last year. Or God Forbid Buxton goes down for a few weeks, every Plan B is terrible, well except Martin (maybe) and he isn't even on the 40. There really isn't any hitting prospects that seem to be close either. Which isn't all that much different from last year, when things go bad or unexpected there was NO plan on putting somebody capable in to replace somebody, oh wait Cave is in AAA all is good.
  25. So as of now Plan B for the Offense/Defense is Lewis, Miranda and Celestino, and then a bunch of AAA players that need to be added to the 40, can't see anything going wrong with this plan. This FO has so messed up the 40 man construction it is a wonder they still have a job. The 40 man sits at 39 right now, so even if they sign Story, that means Rooker moves to part of the back up plan, and for any pitcher they get they have to cut or trade pitchers off the 40. Hey but they open up two spots when the season starts for Enlow and Maeda. ?
