  1. I agree Polanco could be back sooner rather than later, but I don't see him being much of a difference maker this year compared to Escobar or Santana. Long term absolutely.
  2. I don't quite agree. Arcia and Garcia are probably in about the same boat, the other 5 are either elite defenders or on a different level.
  3. The FO is surely down on him at the moment, but they'll give him another shot when he actually starts hitting.
  4. Not quite the same comparison, but I remember the debut of Garza in '06 being a pretty big deal. He was drafted the year before, shot through the system and the Twins were desperate for starting pitching at the time to keep the amazing season going. He got a great standing ovation and then responded with a pretty poor start.
  5. I'd guess more likely that it won't be until next year.
  6. I absolutely think he'll be up within a week. Rotate between 3B, RF and DH. I don't think Vargas is long for this roster, Twins didn't want to recall him when they did. Barring a big trade, which I don't see and would probably be a mistake, or a complete reversal by Arcia, Sano is the last bullet to improve the offense. Everything else is just tweaking at the margins (which isn't to say they shouldn't do moves when the opportunity presents itself, just that the difference won't be as significant as what Sano could possibly bring to the table).
  7. If Stewart was pitching at Cedar Rapids and had a k/9 rate of around 8 would anyone be worried? He would still be relatively age appropriate. Perhaps I'm most surprised that they have pushed him this aggressively especially if he is as raw as some of the reports think he is.
  8. There was an announcement that Niko Goodrum was promoted to AA to backfill for Polanco. More evidence this isn't a short term call-up. Either Vargas is going back down or Stauffer will finally go.
  9. Law has personally said in chats that you can copy specific team sections. What you can't do is copy the entire article, but I will let mods decide.
  10. A prospect of less value than Kepler wouldn't even come close to netting you Suzuki.
  11. Strong take calling 3 of the 4 best hitters in the lineup as the 2nd, 3rd and 4th biggest problems.
  12. Here is what he wrote on the website: http://espn.go.com/blog/mlb-draft/insider/post?id=2362 Pretty high praise for Jay.
  13. Of course this is true, but they have talent and there can be some expectations. It seems to always come back to the front office, but also not against the rules for players to take the opportunities they are given and perform.
  14. Mauer clearly deseves blame. Also would have been nice if one (or two or even three) of Vargas/Arcia/Pinto decided to show up this year. Any of them would look nice in the middle of the order.
  15. Probably is when he goes to the majors he'll likely strike out more, perhaps significantly. So take his actual stats and deflate them accordingly. So yes, striekouts are that big of a problem. He'll get a shot at some point, probably middle of next year. He does have a unique skill set, could potentially mash LHs and does provide some value on defense. But to argue Walker over Sano based solely on stats probably misses the point.
  16. But if there is even the slightest opportunity (real or imagined) to denigrate the Twins...
  17. The Royals are the best team in the AL. I don't think it's particularly close right now. Twins can absolutely compete for a playoff spot though, starting pitching can really cover holes. Interesting that the teams are kind of opposite - Royals have the good everyday lineup with few holes, dominant bullpen and mediocre starters. Twins have decent starters, lineup with holes, and a weak bullpen.
  18. They will take a couple, but Johnson specifically mentioned the weakness of catching in this draft class.
  19. I agree. This is for Stauffer...
  20. I'm a little disappointed we didn't get a mind boggled in here.
  21. I'll second this. Duensing is exactly the type of guy that will keep getting chances in this league for many years to come. This might be his peak salary though.
  22. Keeping them down until early next year would be a disappoint to say the least.
  23. There was even steam for him going #3 overall for a while. Getting him at #6 is solid. I just don't see a clear alternative that they passed on, and overall the top of the draft just wasn't that great this year. Perhaps that is part of the trepidation for this pick.
  24. I'm a little bit of a skeptic on the defense (though probably no worse than Escobar), but I like rolling with talent. Perhaps a couple of his teammates should soon follow.
