  1. I want all the best bats in the lineup all the time. Doesn't happen if Sano is a full time DH.
  2. Pujols played 2 games and Miggy Cabrera 3, and not even sure if full games. So not 0, but darn near. And I'm just referencing similar comparables of good bat, lagging glove 3B prospects. I'm sure Sano could get a game or two in the minors and even this all out.
  3. Crazy talk. He is a young, hungry, relatively athletic and has a cannon arm. He'll make most of the plays and be just fine. Many, many players have done this type of move and yet there is still only one Delmon Young.
  4. You make it seem like putting Sano in RF for a game or two a week is going to displace Jason Heyward. It's not, it is to give Hunter a chance to DH a couple times of week. You know, the same Hunter that you jokers couldn't kill enough for his defense. I"m surprised you aren't welcoming this move. The point of moving Sano around a little is to make sure his bat, and all the best bats on the team, get into the lineup virtually every day. Having him bounce around gives some of the veterans a chance to get some rest at DH. In addition, if one of the other young hitters actually starts to hit, it really gives the team some options and flexibility. All really good things. He surely won't be flawless, but the benefits will outweigh a couple of missed plays.
  5. Totally agree with this. If Kepler keeps this up, adding performance to considerable ceiling, he could sniff top 50. Unless Gonsalves really blows up in High A after his shaky start, don't see either coming all that close to top 100. I anticipate Sano using up prospect eligibility, but would be stunned if Berrios pitches 50 innings in the bigs. That would take 3-4 significant injuries to starters. He will be a representative #1 prospect in the system. Combined with depth, Twins will probably be a low end top 10 system.
  6. Ruth ended a world series with a caught stealing. Needless to say, the R of WAR and 100 level for OPS plus were significantly lighter thresholds in the time of Ruth than Mays or especially Bonds.
  7. Playing some RF is not a distraction. Don't buy this in the least. Plenty of players, good and less so, have moved around positions with little problem. If that impacts his hitting he has bigger problems. Hunter has to DH some (or could get hurt) and the options have to be available if Vargas and/or Arcia pick it up at some point.
  8. Doubtful they would have, Schwarber was considered an overdraft at the time. And way, way too early to conclude this is the wrong move anyways. If Schwarber ends up as a corner OF (which most analysts assume) it certainly won't be that obvious.
  9. The problem with this plan is the strong likelihood that Plouffe and Mauer are both with the team opening day next year (and Hunter isn't). Sano has to work on other positions. From all reports he is a good enough athlete/player that it really shouldn't be a big deal. This idea of playing him in the OF is going to be some huge distraction is way, way overblown.
  10. I prefer more posts detailing where Mauer ranks in relation to other 1Bs over the past two seasons and how he should bat lower in the order.
  11. Only when not going after steroids purchases from years before by retired players.
  12. Hard to say. It is obviously early but aside from Bryant little of that draft has blown up, including the two college pitchers that went ahead of him. JP Crawford for sure, maybe Aaron Judge, otherwise lots of questions.
  13. Keith Law slots Jay at #3. http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=4008
  14. The vast majority of games are still going to have Mauer at 1B and Plouffe at 3B. I don't think you want Sano being a virtual full time DH this early, need another position.
  15. I know you're joking but I hope this wasn't taken as a comp or expectation, Sano is not the same type of hitter. But an interesting comparison of really good hitting 3B prospects that had a bat ready before their gloves and how they were handled as they broke into the majors. Lesser bats would probably remain in the minors until the glove was ready.
  16. Agreed. I wonder a little if Mauer might put the situation out of its own misery. That would be an obscene amount of money to walk away from though.
  17. In my mind that is part of the reason why you have him play a couple of spots. And playing mostly DH would really set back his defensive development.
  18. That is not accurate and a little misleading. He played almost all 3B and two games total in LF. No time in RF or 1B. Darn near what Sano is right now.
  19. Not that complicated.
  20. I mostly agree with this, but think he could play a game or two a week in RF without much problem. Have him DH mostly, play 3B to spell Plouffe or Mauer (with Plouffe at 1B), and some games in RF to spell RF. Really good hitters have to move around the diamond a little to get their bat in the lineup, worked out OK for Miggy Cabrera and Pujols for example. In '03 Cabrera played 55 games in LF and 34 games at 3B, despite never playing LF in the minors. In '01 Pujols played 43 games at 1B, 55 games at 3B, 39 games in LF, 39 games in RF. It is not going to destroy Sano to play a couple of positions.
  21. I'm going Trump.
  22. Hunter isn't going to play RF every day, and I imagine they would rather have Sano out there than Robinson.
  23. Oh, I'm worried about him. I'm just a little surprised that he is pitching this young at High A with such poor k numbers. I think something is going on that we can't see. Even highly drafted high school arms can spend more time in Low A than we might think, especially if they have had some of the injury issues Stewart has battled.
  24. I disagree that it can't. Sano could be a boost and much too early to dismiss Arcia or Vargas from giving the team anything the rest of the year. Marginal moves won't make much of a difference, but those three listed have talent.
