  1. Wait, the Twins have an analytics department?
  2. Not sure he is more likely to succeed going forward than Duensing.
  3. It will be Milone. Slops through some effective innings but clearly the 5th guy in the rotation right now.
  4. Flip strikes me as a reasonably competent front office guy. I do wish he would give up the coaching part of the equation.
  5. I always found it amazing that Rose wouldn't accept reasonable requests for even a partial reinstatement.
  6. I'm not naive to the numbers but if you refuse to do anything because you are going to regress at some point it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. While those numbers describe the first part of the season I still think they have the ability to lift their true talent level by, for instance, making a trade. Regarding the trades you mentioned, those were fiascos, but it was also by a different GM. Because the Twins made some poor trades 5 years ago that means no more trades? Also, you didn't mention trades that got Rauch, Fuentes, Diamond, Pavano, etc. Minor moves that added value for no cost, the exact type I'm thinking of for Clippard.
  7. So your solution is to call up relievers that are struggling in AA?
  8. Also, when there are pretty much no other internal options for LH relievers they don't have much of a choice.
  9. If the season ended today they would be in the playoffs and the AL is mediocre as a whole. All teams are flawed in some way. I personally am in favor of patience in general but if an opportunity is in front of you nothing wrong with taking it. I certainly wouldn't trade a core prospect for a rental this year, but moving a prospect in the mid teens to shore up an obvious weakness is a pretty low cost and strikes me as a no brainer. The Twins still have a couple of prospects that could make a difference when called up (Sano, Meyer, Polanco) and a potential rebound from Arica/DSantana/Vargas in the second half. Get a reliever or two and maybe a corner bat rental at the deadline (if needed and still in it) and give it a shot. Worst case is the young guys are playing meaningful ball in September. That is beneficial to a rebuild too.
  10. I endorse the Berrios idea for later in the year, but not yet. Needs to build up innings first and foremost, but could be a late August/September callup if the Twins are still in it.
  11. Hey, I completely agree, especially like the Chargois for Clippard idea.
  12. They aren't rebuilding, they're fighting for a playoff spot. The relievers in AA aren't even dominating that level and you want to bring them to the bigs? Spin one of those into a contributor is a great use of assets. You aren't ever going to regret trading a minor league reliever unless they turn into Kimbrel, that's why they draft a handful each year.
  13. I will admit I have not seen him pitch other than the brief cup of coffee but my understanding is that even though he has put up decent AAA numbers (though not quite as good as Pressly or Tonkin for comparison) his stuff isn't going to play up as a setup man. To potentially add value as a reliever he is going to have to go multiple innings (think Pressly role recently) so they want him able to pitch in multiple roles. Oliveros is fine as depth and I would be fine with him calling up but he isn't going to be a difference maker like Meyer might (or someone outside the org).
  14. Doogie (FWIW) also tweeted that the Twins are interested in Tyler Clippard. Could probably get him for one of the power arms in AA. I would consider that.
  15. How about tomorrow?
  16. Admittedly nothing says modern bullpen like 27 year old minor league journeymen.

  18. As exciting as it is to switch out middling relievers for other middling relievers, isn't it time to give Meyer a shot? Since becoming a reliever, 16.1 ip, 12 h, 1 r, 6 bb, 19 k.
  19. I thought Brad Pitt did. Now I'm really confused.
  20. Agree with this completely. For really talented guys it is wise to give a long leash and see if they can work it out. Even Terry Ryan stated that Buxton has taken some time to adjust at each level, bigs will be like that but even more so. Going back and lighting up AA again will have limited value and AAA really isn't much different from AA, it is a holding place for depth.
  21. Another fun fact - his game score for this game was 97 yet lower than his last game.
  22. Last two starts: 18 ip, 1 h, 0 r, 26 k, 1 bb. 54 of 57 batters retired.
  23. Anyone just notice that Scherzer lost a perfect game with 2 outs in the 9th when Jose Tabata leaned into a pitch and got hit. 9 ip 0 h 0 bb.
  24. Seriously. He was done three games ago, now they are just delaying the inevitable.
  25. Agreed. But I also think Molitor already realizes this. Fien gets the more important innings already. I also think Pressly will get a crack at 2nd righty out of the pen starting next opportunity. Boyer had a good run against the odds, time to try the next guy.
