  1. Are you sure? I don't think that is true at all. They are the type of guys that stall out at AA, AAA or maybe a AAAA player. I'm not saying that Walker is a common profile, but certainly a profile that comes along on occasion.
  2. And even the observation they do now is far from scientific. It is 20 somethings getting paid little money to chart plays. Not exactly the most conducive to repeatable observations.
  3. The reason you can't find a comp is that people like him don't make the majors for more than a k infused cup of coffee. If you went through the history of the minors you would find some people that put up numbers in the same ballpark but never made it.
  4. Of course they aren't and they haven't been willing to at any point this season and won't be in a month no matter what happens. He has some value, but the Twins still need at least one more start out of him.
  5. While true, Duffey might have a more immediate future in the bigs. Why hold that against Duffey?
  6. I don't have a problem with them staying alive for next year's class and avoiding going against the deepest pockets this period. By all accounts the Twins are going big on one prospect and taking some lesser guys. Heck, some guys on this board have called for this exact strategy and now that they are doing it they are complaining about something else. That is what is typical.
  7. And money. Lots of money.
  8. Maybe there is a lesson there. But I would add a couple of things. Even though many of us don't see the players we can read. There are many great sources providing information on each of these prospects that we can compile ourselves and make judgements. The second part is that there are patterns that can picked up once you have studied prospects for long enough. There are studies that have been done that show what stats are most predictive of future success, and there are certain prospect types that lead to success. People ignore both of these at their own peril.
  9. Age, defensive value, overall skillset, tools One of the biggest mistakes you can make in prospect evaluation is to simply scout a statline.
  10. Pelfrey was certainly due for a clunker. Bad timing for the team considering they are scuffling and also had a short outing 2 days ago. Obviously should have sold high!
  11. Are people really engaging in deep thought and having their mind boggled analyzing a throwaway line in a trade rumors column?
  12. Not that this is wrong but this paragraph made me chuckle a little. With all this going on, how the Twins still the 5th best team in the AL at the moment.
  13. Do you really think these corner OF/IF guys on the farm are actually going to net you a c or ss? Sano maybe, Kepler with some other pieces, but no one else.
  14. Just like basically any other decent catcher that people keep coming back to.
  15. I've always appreciated the mix of negativity and fatalism with the big league club combined with unrealistic expectations and optimism with prospects. Can't be a good way to be a baseball fan. But to answer you last question - I think Sano would be better right now than other options for that additional bat of DH, some RF, some 3B. I like to roll with the most talented (Buxton, Sano), more patient with others like Vargas.
  16. Agree with this. One bad outing can't outweigh his otherwise great month. There has to be a deeper level of thinking than what happened in the last game. If everyone has a typical game this turn, I would guess Milone goes to the bullpen. I don't think that is a great use of Milone, but really hard to justify sending him to AAA with clear bullpen arms that should be sent down or even DFAed.
  17. I think Walker can carve out a role in the bigs, but I think he is a full year at each level until he gets there. My pushback is not that Walker has no chance, it's that he shouldn't be promoted as aggressively as is being suggested here. Same with Kepler. Sano on the other hand...
  18. I think Fien will get another couple outings before losing his job, but I think Pressly might be the second RH reliever, switching roles with Boyer.
  19. Hate to bring up the same stuff with Walker but man is that guy a k machine. Looking back at his game log, since May 15 he has struck out in every game but 4. In the last 10 he has about at 40% k rate. Amazing production, but really hard to see how that is sustainable as he moves up with that k rate. Give him the time he needs. I would still let Kepler consolidate this year. Sano I would bring up yesterday, but no later than following the KC series.
  20. But I would add, little reason to call up Sano until they return to AL parks, maybe even after KC for lower pressure debut.
  21. Exactly. Which is why Buxton comes up and bats 9th and Sano would come up and bat 6th or 7th. Low pressure, low risk, potentially strong reward. Little to lose now.
  22. Indeed. They have holes. This has been apparent all year.
  23. It was 5/90 from Angels, 3/45 from Twins, 5/75 from a handful of other teams.
  24. Nunez has been a better hitter this year. And a PH was absolutely the right move no matter how dominant Milone had been.
  25. The likeliest explanation in my mind is Kepler is having a representative year, the world needed 1B, and they wanted to expand the countries represented in the game. I think a jump to the majors before AAA is the most likely outcome.
