  1. Replacements do happen in the Futures Game, but it's a moot point, Kepler wasn't getting called up to PH for a couple of games.
  2. Sano is better, but World is short of 1B and there is probably more value in taking a kid from Germany instead of one more from the DR.
  3. We are in agreement it would be a bad idea. My only thought is that whoever doesn't start at SS out of Nunez or Escobar will be either the first or second PH of the game. If that happens, there isn't a clear option of who could play SS in a bad situation. The odds of this are small indeed, but it is only a couple of games and they don't need a pitcher. I personally want Meyer.
  4. Are you implying that people take the most extreme examples of success/failure/comp and think they can apply to everyone? Inconceivable! To answer your last question - there is no one way, it really depends on the specific talent.
  5. The more I think about it, the more I fear you are right. They don't need a pitcher and they probably want to use whoever doesn't start out of Escobar and Nunez as a PH so they need another SS capable bench player. And couldn't be Santana obviously.
  6. Fielder has 59 games at DH, 11 at 1B, which would explain the discrepancy. Also, in my opinion (and surely to derail the debate), WAR really overstates the value of defense relative to offense.
  7. I'll concur that Rubio and Bush are really the only two viable Republican candidates (as much as I'd like to see Paul make some real noise). And there is no second Democrat.
  8. Looks like almost all of the possible call ups got a few outs in. Maybe it was a final audition.
  9. Got to admit Arcia would be an unexpected curveball.
  10. Still under 2 years service time, so is that a veteran? I would be pretty surprised if they rolled with 3 mediocre LHPs (aside from Perkins) but their bullpen roster management has left something to be desired. If they were bringing back Thielbar I would guess they would option Thompson.
  11. To be clear, one person is talking service time and he's wrong. I would call a pitcher who is 27 (TJ delayed) or 25 and pre-arb a young pitcher. And I hope you aren't advocating a move merely to see fruits from a trade instead of what is best for Meyer or the Twins long term. (Though for the record I have thought Meyer should have been up as a reliever anytime the last two weeks but it had absolutely nothing to do with the Span trade).
  12. Define "veteran" and I'll take that bet.
  13. Actually that strikes me as a very possible outcome for Stewart (barring injury). And Stewart, by all accounts I've read, has better raw stuff.
  14. Also silly to assume no one uses right now or used before the steroid era. I'm sympathetic to the stealing jobs idea, but that it is some huge injustice against the sport strikes me as being naive to how professional sports have operated for decades.

Regarding Obama and racism I really won't argue that point too much, I'm aware of plenty of stories as well. That said, my general take is that for many people that engage in this, they don't like him for partisan reasons and racism is the easy/lazy way to express it.

If politicians didn't look to score points and go after low hanging fruit nothing obvious would get done.
  17. I endorse this plan. Cycle the lefties through to see if one pops as a LOOGY and call up Meyer.
  18. It was a couple weeks ago.
  19. I would be interested in giving these guys a shot. It would start with Thielbar, maybe they can steal a couple of months of competent LOOGY production. I'm not certain Coke is better than Thompson and Duensing.

I'm going to take a different thought here. I don't think things are going to get worse, I think things are trending to the much better. Much of what is causing outrage right now was taken for granted not all that long ago. I think more of what we are seeing is a historically oppressed people rising up and saying they aren't going to take it anymore and now there is video evidence to support their cause. It isn't pretty and smooth but it is progress. And race issues seem to be, with a few tragic exceptions, much more settled in younger generations. Charleston is a shocking situation but I also think much of the reaction shows how far people have come. Sure there are clowns on Fox and the like, but there is no unstoppable momentum to, for instance, take down and stop selling confederate flags. Long overdue sure, but pretty amazing how fast it has moved.

I generally think disrespect and opposition to the president from opposing parties has been spiraling for a while. Clinton was bad, Bush was worse, Obama was much worse. Seems to be the trend and while race factored into it, probably was more just an acceleration of a trend rather than something completely new. As far as "worst president ever" that is the new normal for the sitting president. A couple years after he leaves office his image will be back to where it belongs and people will turn their hate to the new president (especially after first midterms).
  22. Are you sure Stewart wouldn't put up similar numbers in Low A? I certainly have advocated pumping the brakes a little on Gonsalves. I like him and don't especially quibble with this placement considering the alternatives, but putting up numbers in a second go around in Low A doesn't move the needle a ton for me.
  23. So he can draw upon nature and nurture?
  24. The other aspect of this story that I forgot about was that Rose was going to have a role in the all star game festivities this year in Cincinnati, but I suspect that is now off the table.
  25. On a more serious note - I think Gibson makes an interesting point on fip and xfip. He really is the type of pitcher that breaks that model.
