    So all I need to do is show you that you can get useful players back without an all-star to prove this wrong right? Dave Hollins? Jared Camp? Do you know how we acquired Duran? Escobar? Are they frequent? No. Do they happen? Yes. And since they do happen it is still a superior move to doing nothing. Nothing yields definite nothing. Please let me know if you need a further elaboration on "sometimes" is more frequent than "nothing"

    You haven't made a coherent point yet. The team got Joe Ryan for selling. Then you seem to be claiming selling is also pointless at the same time. You then seem to think this position makes sense. I'm sorry, it doesn't.

    I don't so much mind the suggestions, but the teams listed here don't seem like the ones who will be shopping for starting pitching. I find it more like the Cubs, Braves, and Red Sox should be on this list with the Padres. I can maybe squeeze a look at the Dodgers and Yankees just for being the gorillas in the room but WTF is Seattle doing on it?

    Some of us were warning you folks that the offensive output was unlikely to be maintainable...... That happens in baseball. Sometimes you are on the right side of a sample where you outperform expectations and sequence well.....you can't bank on it though. The Twins were scoring well above other teams with roughly comparable offensive metrics. The writing was on the wall.

    Money is not even remotely in the ballpark of why this team ought to sell. It's somewhere below "it'll make for 17 different Cody or Codie or Codey Twins Daily Articles" and above "I need a new reason to restart my franchise in MLB The Show"

    There are few guarantees....except that several of these players will leave for nothing. Not even a lottery ticket chance of something. Call me Lloyd Christmas...but I'll swing boldly with the mathematical assumption that something > nothing.

    I got Clickbait Cody'd - I thought this article might actually point out some of the really negative things that happen from buying or not-selling. Alas...we got none. So let me throw it out there....Not selling will cause several of these things to happen: 1) The Twins will continue to have an OF-heavy 40 man roster which will force them to make difficult decisions where they get zero value for players rather than some value. 2) The Twins will enter next year without any sample of the available AAA talent's ability to contribute by virtue of maintaining the veteran clogs on the roster, pushing back that evaluation another year. 3) Potential assets for Jeffers, Larnach, Gomez, Ryan, Bell will by bypassed in favor of no assets at all. 4) The 2028 Twins will then have less assets in the war chest as potential players on the roster or fodder for trades when the team is an actual buyer. 5) Perpetuating the false narrative of contention only to face plant again vs. selling and maintaining the commitment to build an actual winner

    Right - he's not E-Rod or Jenkins- but at 26 with team control he's an option worth investing into in a non-playoff season. It's also crucial you get something out of him with how god awful the Varland trade looks right now. All you're losing is two veterans you aren't paying to play here next year anyway and possibly cashing in a lotto ticket.

    Why would trading a 29 year old with basically no team control to open up playing time for a 26 year old with lots of team control be short-sighted? We're not truly contenders and Larnach is not a good fielder. (Roden likely isn't either) Bell is a butcher in the field. We should be using this deadline to realign our roster to better pave the way for young players. Not clutch to them while we piddle around with a lame wildcard spot we backed into.

    I imagine the new CBA will have some grace periods built in. The NBA learned the hard way with this a few seasons ago and I'd like to think MLB was paying attention enough to create a framework that isn't madness.

    You're confusing the problem. It absolutely is a logjam. You seem to be taking issue with framing it as a "surplus". That's fine, but there is undoubtedly a logjam. The 40 man roster simply isn't balanced proportionally at that position. Which is all the more reason to free up LF and DH so that we can continue to find out if the logjam can actually become a surplus.

    I again wish to thank the Baseball Gods for this boon. May their wisdom continue to shine truth into the minds of those who refuse to turn their eyes from the wickedness of the Wild Card standings and the lies they tell of our "contention".

    If the Twins think he's ready...ok. But then you have to ditch Larnach and Bell and open up some playing time for guys. What I don't get is the narrative to force him up to save this season or boost some false notion of a playoff run. Do what is right for his development, everything else should be ignored.

    Figures. I ask the baseball gods to prevent us from doing something stupid like buying at the deadline by having us lose a bunch....and they actually listened. Only time those buttholes pay attention I guess.

    It is their actions but as long as money is shared between owners and players (which it always will be) then any time that money changes how it is being shared or used....it becomes part of the CBA and the negotiations therein. Players would be silly not to want to be involved in those talks or how the money ultimately gets to them. I do think finances should be transparent as part of any anti-trust protections they get. If the public is going to protect their monopoly, then the public should know what they are protecting.

    Probably. It's definitely a dirty tactic by the owners. Public sentiment will eventually play a role in pressuring the sides and the owners are playing the long game on that.

    I honestly care less about trading some prospects. As @ashburypointed out in the other thread, there is an OF glut we almost certainly have to trade from no matter what. What I care more about is losing assets (Larnach, Jeffers, Ryan) with nothing to show in return.

    Myself and this article have very different definitions of "frontline starter". I'm not even sure Detmers would slot in as our third guy and even if he does...it ain't by much. Also, I'd like a dose of whatever Bob Nightengale is smoking in thinking Detmers and Skubal are going to command the same haul.
