  1. So not anti-Mauer and not advocating Molina for the HOF? That's precisely what you're saying. I love Molina as a catcher. But you're suggesting that if Molina was catching in Minnesota to the likes of Liriano and Santana the Twins would have been much more successful. While that is a possibility, it's also not a guarantee either.
  2. Brooks Robinson was NOT primarily a defensive 3rd baseman. Only to people who never saw him play except for the 1970 WS. While he wasn't Frank he was a solid .280 guy most of his career who'd give you 20 homers. That's not too shabby. It's just he made defensive plays most 3rd baseman couldnt.
  3. Wait till next year! You stole my line. Haha. And what's even better than that. Those no-trade contracts. If it seems to those players that the team is staying stagnant or regressing. They'd be waived in a heartbeat if there were interested takers
  4. How are Vazquez defensive metrics so much higher than Jeffers? Last year both had similar numbers as far as throwing out runners% Vazquez isn't stealing that many more strikes or blocking that many more balls. Those numbers are way out of whack. And not believable. I watched every game last year and those DEF numbers? No way.
  5. Powerful indeed! No child should have to fight a battle like that. Glad to see you've overcome so much at a young age. Joe Crede #24. Great omens.
  6. Not an argument but how can ANYONE know without ALL the information needed. Owners do not nor will they open the books for full transparency so its all ballpark guess work. The only 3 real known factors are payroll, TV revenue and ticket sales. You knew what your revenue and expenditures were because you had to. If a team makes money for 10 straight years and loses money for 1 year. The only one they'll talk about is the 1 year they lost money. I'm not one who advocates over spending, but when all the people who know way more than I do are scratching their heads at the Twins acknowledged payroll cuts and how they plan on putting a more competitive team on the field. It makes one wonder.
  7. As businessmen I'm sure the owners were well aware of this. They also knew that there'd be a new negotiated TV deal coming after last season. Fans may not always agree with how they do things meaning ownership. But as long as it seems as if they're trying to put a good product out there. Fans will be more engaged. I don't know what their plan is but I'm ready to roll with the flow. Some might not be so happy with what may seem like ownership doesnt care. That's fine too. Both sides will watch so one or the other can say. "See, I told you"
  8. I'm not slinging mud. Nor am I the one on a pulpit. Preach
  9. I think the purpose of the article was. If you think the Twins didn't do much this offseason. Pretty much stood pat. You ain't seen nothing yet. Wait till next year. It'll make this year seem busy. The Twins org. is reinventing the wheel. How to do more with less
  10. I think the plan will be Kirilloff 1 and then Santana. But I agree with Kiriloffs defense. I don't know or care what his defensive metrics were, but I know every pop fly was an adventure with him. Everyone talks about Juliens defense which wasn't good. Neither was Kiriloffs. But I've seen posts suggesting he could be a GG at 1st. I don't see it. He did scoop pretty good.
  11. Pablo López went through something similar in Miami. Simply put this way. If they can't get the offspeed stuff over for strikes the hitters will just sit fastball. Not too different than what the Twins did vs Gausman. I believe Joe Ryan can take that next step. With all the metrics and data, these guys all know what needs to be fixed. It's just a matter of can they execute it. Here's a question. If Pablo stayed in Miami or even went to another organization, would he have done as well? I believe he would have. If the magic elixir is Twins coaching why would places like Driveline exist
  12. The BAM money. Isn't that just a 1 time payment for all 30 team from the sale of MLB 15% stake in BAMTECH? So yes it's revenue, but it's not an annual revenue. So why is it being considered lost revenue. Obviously the owners would all have to vote on that sale. That might account for the increased payroll for 1 year but it doesn't affect payroll on a yearly basis. What I'm trying to say is ok. The Twins got an extra 30 million as did every other team so they might just say let's spend it this year but it won't be available next year so they can adjust the payroll accordingly. What am I missing?
  13. I looked for that Twitter post for the past 2 days. I just saw it again because I wanted to respond. I saw it was posted by Benjamin Dover. I can't believe I fell for that one. 😄 What a dumb a--.
  14. So you're saying that Alcantra and Luzardo are just wasting away in Miami and the Twins are churning out reclamation project Cy Young winners. I call hooey. And Miami has produced some good young arms in their 26 years of existence. And I never insinuated that the deal for Lopez is a mistake. I'd make that deal every day.
  15. I went back and look at Pablo Lopez projections which were made after the trade for 2023. Basically said he would slot in nicely as a #2 in Minnesota but nowhere near the numbers he put up. He made the biggest jump stats wise in his career last year. Increased velocity and the addition of the sweeper being big reasons. Can he better that in 2024? That's the 64,000 dollar question. I think it's wishful thinking personally. And I expect him to perform close to what he did in 2023 maybe even a slight regression. If his numbers rose from 2020 through last season I'd be very optimistic that his numbers will improve again in 24. Hey. It'd be great if he made that jump to CY winner. I just don't see it happening. I find it amazing that some players get heaped with over exuberant expectations based on 1 good year. Lewis is being mentioned as a potential mvp with a 1/2 a year under his belt. He was injured several times last year included at years end where he was playing hurt. According to the posts on TD the Twins will be 1 2 3 in MVP and Cy Young winner in 2024. World Champions here they come
  16. 0%. Owners more worried about public blowback and image than potential dugout unrest. Although that would be the narrative. That would be more along the lines that he's not a good fit. If Buxton or Correa or Lopez along with the FO simply state that he needs to be the exemplary student or else would be a sufficient motivator by itself. For all we know, those behind the scenes discussion have already taken place.
  17. The problem I have now in regards to HOF voting is that best 6 or 7 years metric. That's because of the rare few times guys careers were cut short for 1 reason or another. Puckett and Koufax are the examples used. They are the exception rather the rule. The Hall was started so that only the most exceptional players were to be inducted. Not 1 of the original inductees were elected unanimously. It's supposed to be difficult. So Johan Santana was very good for 6 or 7 years. Herb Score. Sam McDowell Tony Conigliaro Lyman Bostock Denny McClain were all very good players. Potential HOFers who's careers were cut short for various reasons. Bostock being especially tragic. Sure, Santana was very good. I don't believe he's quite there amongst the elite. Call it bad luck or whatever. Put Santana in then guys will be clamoring for Mickey Lolich types who were very good as well to get in.
  18. Agreed. But let's just say he's still effective. That's a lot of innings eaten up. The question was put forward. What is the risk? I say the risk is a lot lower than the potential rewards.
  19. 9I don't believe for 1 second that this was the "best deal the Twins could muster" The time they've had since knowing that they were going to have to find a new partner has been substantial. These guys are billionaires. They make big deals for a living. I just believe they took the easiest path. They're waiting to see what everyone else does after this season instead of being trailblazers and finding their own path.
  20. All I saw was a Twitter post. For all I know it was a fan posting their own personal wish list.
  21. Just ran across a random post on X formerly known as Twitter saying Twins were finalizing a 3 year deal with Bellinger. Hey, if it's on Twitter it must be true. Haha. I scoured as much as I could but saw nothing on any other forum or any sources to verify.
  22. Tampa pitching had the the 3rd fewest innings in the AL led by Eflin not by choice but because of season ending injuries to Springs and Rasmussen and several IL stints for McClanahan and Glasnow. The fact they could fill those holes and still win 99 games can be attributed as much to the depth they have at starting pitching as to the bullpen. They just keep loading up on big arms. That's what all teams are trying to emulate. It just seems Tampa does it better than most.
  23. HD Thoreau couldn't have wrote any finer than that. Hoping for pitches to miss that bat. Pitchers and catchers report.
  24. I hope DeSclafani is ready and raring to go. I hope he exceeds even what the Twins hope to get from him. The point is don't believe all the reports. Regarding Gallo, there was no "left foot contusion" as was reported. And yes I do have a direct quote. From him
  25. When he went on the IL in June, yes. In Sept no. If I'm not mistaken he went on the IL on Sept 6th the day after he was brought in to pinch run. I can say he was not thrilled by that decision.
