  1. To me - this would be a very disappointing outcome. If we are actually considering resigning Vazquez instead of promoting from within, we need to trade for someone they are comfortable with at the major league level. Vazquez is just above pitcher level when trying to get a hit - at this point in his career.
  2. I'm sorry, but just NO. We have zero major league catchers in our system that are ready to play other than Jeffers. This would be a horrible idea if we plan to compete in the next 2-3 years.
  3. I vote we use that last option on him and send him down thru the All Star Break to work out the kinks. Bring up Dobnak (who is bad, but is he worse than the current version of Ober?) - but at least he did look ok in his one MLB appearance this year. He would have maybe 2 starts? Short term pain with a possible passing grade for hopefully a long term better looking Ober post all star game break.
  4. Just one of several areas where facts no longer seem to matter nowadays
  5. The only response I have to that is a loss by 15 runs counts the same as a loss by 1 run. With the currently playoff format - only need to get to the post season to make a run.
  6. I think I'm in the minority here based on the comments, but for all the Rocco haters - do you really think ANY manager could lead us to a title when considering: 1 - Payroll limitations/ownership 2 - Injuries 3 - The current make up of the roster. Rocco has no input on 1 and 2, and only limited impact on #3. I would venture to guess there are ZERO managers available that could win a championship with the above restrictions/limitations. Is Rocco perfect - far from it, but just by changing the name on the manager office door doesn't mean they'll be any better because they'll still have the 3 above listed things keeping them from being as successful as they could be. Lastly, I really feel that we're simply in a holding pattern on everything - including the manager - until we see if this thing actually gets sold or not. Hopefully a decision on that will come sooner rather than later. Until then, on this and every other decision - we wait.
  7. Would have loved to see the pairing of Mauer and Ramos as our catching duo - another loss in the trade column for our Twins.
  8. I'm not a fan of trading prospects but I'd be open to it in fantasyland if they could pull it off. In addition could we give them other things, perhaps that new hotel just outside left field as well?
  9. I think his development was stunted out of necessity of needing him to start last year before he was truly ready. He held his own with closely monitored starts so far in the majors. BUT - hopefully this is just a chance to send him down, get him reset and develop some of the things they would have addressed at AAA last year if they hadn't needed him at Target Field.
  10. Glad to see him have some success. Felt he's been overlooked (appropriately based on previous year's challenges with offspeed pitches), since Walner was drafted - but good to see him producing some results for us. Hopefully this is only the beginning of things to come and he can get to the level where he was worth that first round pick.
  11. It really just feels like we are in a holding pattern until the team is either sold - and we can: 1-Rejoyce, even temporarily at the potential of a changing of the old ways and the hopes of fielding a team that isn't focused fully on profitability, or 2: they announce that they are electing to not sell and we can really, really stop caring about the team.
  12. Its just another evolution in the game. If it works, I envision them being the norm in 5 years. Same thing as how the glove has evolved over 100 years - the bat will as well.
  13. My first thought goes back 3-4 years when people kept complaining about us drafting all these shortstops. Now we know why as very few ever develop into a pro SS at the MLB level.
  14. Hopefully he's been practicing grabbing the skip throws from Correa.
  15. Great idea! Wish we were going to be down there this year, but hopefully it will be a success and will become an annual event!
  16. I've been very intrigued by Pitcher Lewis since I learned about his ability to throw both with good velocity AND a knuckleball. Hopeful he can stay healthy because I'd love to see how that unusual combo of pitches can play in the majors and would love to see him.
  17. While we had a full pen, we didn't have anyone proven from the lefties. Can't fault them. Still hoping to move Vazquez and use those resources for a right handed 1B/CF backup (do those exist?)
  18. I mean.....define active. Most of us have possibly told our doctors we're a bit more 'active' than we really are also right?
  19. I think our catching depth has improved greatly over the past few months. At this point in his career, time for Vazquez to be shipped out for salary relief. It would have been difficult to do this with only Carmargo as depth - but now should allow us to make that move and still be OK. Hope to see that coming soon. For the article's subject matter - I think its pretty clear can only have a 3rd catcher on the active roster IF he can play other positions as well. The flexibilty they crave can be met with our new options.
  20. Sure - give caretakers first shot at available inventory, but I'd love to have them available to everyone for purchase who are too far away to attend the event.
  21. Awesome series of articles and very interesting! I hope you'll consider doing another such article on whomever the new owners will be on how they made their money, etc. Thank you for your efforts.
  22. I would expect he's just as excited for new ownership as the fans are!
  23. IF the owners were not planning on selling the team, I envision they would in the near future be looked at nationally like the owners of the Rockies and Pirates - Purely about making as much money as possible. Ownership change can't come fast enough! They may not get a passing grade, but if they make money, I bet you can take your failing grade and shove it in their opinion.
  24. I assume as soon as the owners recognize they need to spend a Major League level of payroll?
