  1. I look at someone like Miranda, and I really wonder if the Twins have any psychologists on the team to help players work thru any mental blocks they are having. I doubt any of his physical skills have diminished so quickly as a young man that he can't make things work, so I believe it must be something mental that could hopefully be worked thru if he had access to the proper resources to get him back on track?
  2. I believe most casual fans have a very short memory. People who take the time to follow and post comments on sites like this -less so. With that said - I think there are only 2 ways they can win back the fans. 1 - Sell the team. 2- Prove to us that winning is at least as important as making money. To do that - they are going to need to overspend this coming off season. If they were to extend Ryan, keep Lopez, and sign enough free agents (plus possible trades) to get our payroll back in the 12-16 range of all teams, then maybe we can try to believe the trading of our bullpen wasn't just about saving money. I give both of these options nearly a zero percent chance of happening. Its too late, but they don't even seem to care.
  3. I think this is exactly who they should call up. Who to send down? I'm not sure since they've been hard to watch since we gave up on the season - but I'm sure they can find someone who won't be part of our future.
  4. I'm not sure either has a long term future with the team. Larnach is easy to predict - I don't expect we'll tender him this off season simply because he's an average player and we have younger people who will possibly also be average for less money. Wallner on the other hand is currently more valuable - both because of his hitting, and his arm in the OF (which is why would be a waste to put at 1st). But - while he's cheap now, when will he start making millions with us? I wouldn't be surprised if they try to trade him while his value is high, and before he gets expensive. If we're trading Varland for future prospects - how is this much different when we have players like Rodriguez, Gonzalez, and Jenkins waiting in the wings?
  5. After what ownership pulled the past 2 years - I really doubt we'll ever see post season success again as long as this family owns the team. It feels obvious that winning is 2nd to profits - Period. Hard Stop. In 2023, we finally were on the right path after 20 years. Then, when all conventional thoughts tell us to spend a little more to get over the top - we pull back spending. If that doesn't show where their priorities are - what does? (who believes that $400M in debt was accrued by the Twins instead of other businesses they own?) People point to the 87 and 91 championship teams. Baseball was different back then. In 1987 the Yankees (shocking!) led MLB with a $21.5M payroll. The Twins were 11th (out of 26) at $13M between the Houston and Philly. (I also found it reported we only spent $6M in total team payroll that year - not important I guess to know which is correct for this) Obviously now that individual players make more than the entire team payroll of even the highest spending teams - from the last era we won a championship - things have changed. Until this ownership realizes you have to accept a few million less a year in profits (by spending it on the field) - we will not win. Sure, most of us will show up for games (including myself) - at least a few times a year. Yes, we'll buy our hats, beers and jerseys - because we're more loyal to the Twins than the owners are. To them - its just an investment like RiverRoad Entertainment, PAR Systems, and United Properties. It, to me, feels helpless. I can't quit them, but I see no logical reason to care about them, other than I simply love baseball - and naturally feel the need to root for a favorite team. PS - I'm too old to find a new favorite team. I'll probably just watch them like I always have, but I have to keep my expectations in check, because the Pohlad family has different goals than I do.
  6. I sincerely don't believe the owners would even care if they played in empty stadiums all year long - they're still getting their millions from national tv contacts before the season even begins.
  7. When I see an article such as this - my thoughts go to the possible idea that the Twins found this young hitting coach who they feel had talent. Then, the brought them on-board and wanted him to coach players in a certain style of hitting. That 'Twins Style' conflicted with the style the coach had used in the past to get their attention in the first place. Then when the Twins Style didn't work - the coach was let go. Once in Toronto, the coach was allowed to return to his own style that worked - thus he is successful again?
  8. I think they want to - but the player's union won't let them. Salary floor + salary cap = anyone can win, any given year. Makes it exciting for the fans which leads to a successful league. Somehow they need to get the players to understand that perhaps a cap may lead to a few lower superstar salaries - overall they will get more money in the players pockets by implementing a floor as well.
  9. I'm pretty confident that no matter how much extra they charge us and in turn - pass onto the teams in new tv revenues - none of that will be used (by the Pohlads) to improve the team on the field. They don't care.
  10. From everything I've heard - Joe wants to win. Problem is he only gets one vote, and the rest of the family really doesn't care about on-field performance much.
  11. I can't see this happening - too optimistic for me when it comes to the Pohlads. While I think you're right that they'll move on from Lopez and Ryan - I can't see them giving $7M to Ober when he's been hurt and we have so much CHEAP young pitching supposedly ready to go. Abel? I also can't possibly imagine they pay 2 relievers $5M each! They've never invested in relief pitching - I expect 2 more min salary guys here. Lastly - They are certainly not going to pay $6M for a backup catcher. I think we'll be lucky to keep Jeffers around, his back-up will certainly be a min salary guy. Other than that - I think you're pretty close. Using most of your figures and swapping out my thoughts above - my payroll prediction would be around $56,742,857 Not sure how low we need to go before MLB steps in and tells the owners they need to spend money (like they did with the A's), but I expect they'll try to find out.
  12. I expect that since he's going to have a very low salary - he'll be given every opportunity to stick around either as a starter or in the pen.
  13. I think this is important to note, because without it IF they still own the team, I expect they'd try to get a payroll as close to zero as possible. Thanks for the reminder about this requirement.
  14. I call BS on this statement. If you're not trying to win it all - then whats the point of even trying at all? The Pohlad family has an estimated net worth of 3.8Billion dollars. They can afford it, and if they intentionally elect to put more money in their pockets instead of trying to make their customers (the fans) happy, then screw them. People say they need to run it like a business. I don't agree with that, but say they did. Facts are, they can lose millions of dollars a year from a profit standpoint, and they will STILL make money because the base value of the franchise increases so drastically. We have bad owners, plain and simple. Why should we give them a pass because for 2 years they acted like they cared. They signed Donaldson and then Correa to get to an AVERAGE payroll. According to ranker.com - we have the 13th richest owner in mlb. They simply value money over their customers. As much as I hate it, they have that right. BUT - we can stop supporting them. A new owner can't get here fast enough for me, and I blame them more than anyone else for the collapse of where we were less than 2 years ago.
  15. i do have hope....................hope that they get sold soon!
  16. I feel confident in saying it Vazquez will be replaced by someone on a minimum salary. They will not be competitive, so why even consider paying Vazquez the lowest amount he would consider? This is subject to change if we can get a sale done - obviously.
  17. You're spot on. Its crazy how often the term 'bucket of balls' is used to represent how little value a player has for the Twins. However in this case, we actually traded a future HOF player in Correa for about that same price.
  18. I think the writer is right about it being like watching a car wreck. I'll watch on TV since I already have the package, but I won't be going to any more big league games. I already have plans to visit Cedar Rapids and have tickets, so I feel good about paying minor league prices to see a very similar product the rest of this season instead.
  19. Here's my concern. At the all star game, this statement took place: "I know some things that you don't know," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said during the All-Star break when asked about a potential Twins sale. "I can tell you with a lot of confidence that there will be a transaction there, and it will be consistent with the kind of pricing that has taken place. To me, that's way too vague. If the Pohlad's decided to simply infuse some cash into the business (to pay off debt?), they could sell 10% of the team to raise $170M and the "transaction consistent with the kind of pricing that has taken place" will be a true statement. That would leave the Pohlads in charge of a business they clearly don't want, but can't sell for what they feel it is worth. That to me would be the worst case scenario.
  20. Great - but like others on here - Rocco doesn't control who's on the roster. I expect as a competitor, he wants to win and put the best team on the field. But - that doesn't line up well with seeing what we have in some of the young guys. We have a lot of pretty bad baseball coming up - I expect we'll learn a lot about our future regardless of who is in the lineup in the past 3 days.
  21. Your 100% correct - I can't comprehend the purpose of that other than to assume the Jays would take France (and the 350K he's still owed) unless we gave them Varland for nothing. Since saving money appears to be the only goal - that would fit.
