  1. What a sad state of affairs for MLB when one team's castoffs can become a star on a different team.
  2. Here's my 2 cents towards what Tom is saying. First - he's not a baseball guy. He's admitted that, and he probably doesn't understand that a below average regular can make $10M a year. In the normal business world - that's an awful lot of money. But now that he's in baseball, its just 'normal'. I wonder if he's having trouble digesting that as he makes this transition into the baseball world from his other Pohlad companies role. He probably figures other than stars Buxton and Lopez, we are paying, in his mind 'fair' wages for people playing baseball. Due to having a couple stars, and paying 'fair' wages, we should be competitive. I have a bad feeling that having a non-baseball owner leading a baseball team is not going to work out well for the fans. They may make more money, his top goal, but none of us will feel any benefit from that. Hopefully I'm wrong.
  3. It just feels incomplete to me because he never got the chance to continue the momentum we were building with our playoff victory in 2023. I'm from the mindset that only 1 team every year has a successful season - but until a payroll cap and floor go in place, some teams will never likely taste 'success'.
  4. Spot on article. Well said and glad you took the time to communicate this to any Falvey haters out there.
  5. It was a work in progress when they parted ways with him. But - our pitching has been doing better than our hitting the past few years, so I'd have to say it had more potential than the offensive side of things.
  6. I disagree. From my perspective the Pohlads deserve all the sh*t they get. This new version under Tom appears to be heading towards being the worst owners in MLB.
  7. Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story indicated the team would begin an immediate search for a new president of baseball operations. During his press conference, a reporter asked Pohlad about that search, and Pohlad corrected the record: Zoll will be in charge of baseball ops. The team is not pursuing a replacemeny for Falvey outside the organization at this time. This is what I expected to be the case - I also think you get what you pay for in this case. No one in that role will save them at least a few hundred K right?
  8. Why would Tom have a different philosophy than any other Pohlad who has ever run the team. Objective #1 - Make as much money as we can. Objective #2 - Try to scam the fans to believing we care if we win or lose.
  9. I can't disagree more. I think Falvey at least tried to put a winning team on the field. Now with Pohlads making a change, I expect someone added that knows going in we're not going to put a decent team on the field because making money is the only thing that really matters to this family.
  10. I don't care for this move at all. I have a feeling the Pohlads were telling Falvey that the payroll available for players in the future is not going to allow Falvey to put a competitive team on the field and Falvey wasn't interested in that any longer as he's already had to put up with that for 2 years. I prefer Falvey's leadership to what the Pohlads probably want to put in place - a owner 'YES' man.
  11. I was a bit confused by the wording in the 3rd paragraph. Are you suggesting the Twins will elect to NOT pay Ryan in 2027 if they have to pay him 13M? Really sorry to hear that we won't pay that amount if he has another all star season in 2026. How much do the Pohlads expect to be able to pay a pitcher of his caliber?
  12. Can you imagine what the Twins Ownership 24 remaining questions looks like? 1- How do we not have less attendance this year without spending more money? 2- How did we accidentally spend money to get 3 catchers? oops! 3 - How many gifts to we have to give away before we can't call it a 'giveaway' night? The first 100 fans? 4- How big do we 'really' have to go before its not allowed to be called 'go big'?
  13. I can't figure out why they wouldn't even try to put someone over there like Larnach. A big lefty over there, who is bad in the outfield seems like the kind of guy you'd at least give a look at for that role. Larnach is obviously as good of an athlete as someone like Tortuga, who did have that job off and on for a bit. What's the worst that could happen - they fail and you move on.
  14. I SO wish you'd simply sell these glasses for those of us who live too far away to attend this sold out event. You did in 2021 and I have it, but have you ever considered making enough to sell, in addition to the ones given away at the event. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would purchase one. Side Note - I expect if you had a 'Twins Daily' store - we'd probably buy some swag there too.
  15. I don't blame Falvey for this. He has to try and wait for 'value' when it comes to free agents because the owners -DO NOT CARE- if we win or not. What else do they need to do to prove its only about the money for them. They keep telling us they want to win, and we keep believing them - Why? The Pohlads are no better than the Nuttigs in Pittsburgh and the Monforts in Colorado.
  16. This move accomplishes nothing other than an extra body some of our young guys will have to wait for before they can try to develop in the majors as a 4th or 5th place team in the Central.
  17. This could simply mean we called to ask how much money is was looking for. If was above the min salary, I'm betting that's why talks are no longer on-going.
  18. I have a question regarding the 2027 season maybe someone can shed some light on for me. I'm part of the group who feels probably more negative than most that there will be no 2027 season based on the totally out of whack salary differences between clubs (Juan Soto 61.9M and the Marlins team $70M in 2025). With that said, can someone confirm that IF the entire season is cancelled due to the lock out - any players under contract thru 2027 simply becomes a free agent - and essentially plays their last game for their current team in 2026 - Is that correct? I would think that IF the first half of this upcoming season goes poorly and we decide to cut bat on players like Joe Ryan - we would probably get less for him in return if the other club will only know they will be getting half a season and that no second year is guaranteed. Surly they could always sign him to an extension, but I wonder if that will play much of an impact on the offers we'd get for players with officially 1.5 years of team control, but could end up being only half a year.
  19. My thoughts would be yes, this would be a good move - if only for a million or two. BUT - considering the guys we've already brought in - I don't think there are any more spots for additional hitters. He has pitched before so....maybe in the bullpen?😱
  20. The more I think about this transition to Tom from Joe, the less optimistic I become. Sure, Joe failed. But - at least it seems Joe was a fan of the Twins! I think he really WANTED the team to win, and proved so by signing players like Correa and getting to a payroll level we've never seen before (league average). With Tom in place, plus with minority owners who are in the financial sector - I envision it will only be about the money going forward. If moves don't make the ownership more money then don't make them. At least Joe made moves in hopes of making the team better. It didn't work out - but at least he tried. Will Tom even try to win, or will he only try to make as much money as possible?
  21. I had high hopes for Joe and he immediately got credit from me for signing big names like Correa. While I do hope Tom can lead us to greener pastures, I almost feel a bit sorry for Joe. (As much as I can feel sorry for a billionaire anyway) I don't know the distribution of responsibility, but could the $500M in debts the Twins have actually come from the team's inept management? Or, as I would venture to guess, were these debts from other ventures and because of the interest on the loan, Joe was in a no-win situation. Since Tom was in charge of the other Pohlad ventures, is he the one who actually placed some of that debt onto the Twins to cover for debts he accrued with their other investments? Tom is saying all the right things, hopefully (for fans) Joe really was bad at his job and putting Tom in this role is really a step forward towards producing a winning team on the field in the near future. But, he has to show us, not tell us about it.
  22. I still think I'd be more excited about Susac than I am Jackson.
