  1. Love this idea, especially the part where he can possibly play elsewhere if the catcher role becomes a challenge physically. We need more talent in this role in the entire minor system.
  2. And this.....this right here is why MLB needs a cap and floor. To have ANY team have their goal to simply be exciting is really pathetic. The only goal for ALL pro sports teams, and the measure of success from the fans, should be to win a championship.
  3. I get that.... But what have Tampa and Milwaukee achieved by operating that way..... Neither have ever won a world series. Isn't that the goal? We have a known commodity in Ryan who can be a starter in the playoffs - if we trade him, we're hoping to get someone as good as Joe, but there is no guarantee the player we get in return ever even plays in the majors. Has this Front Office proven they can be trusted to get a good return for Joe - I think that is a valid question.
  4. Tom says he's willing to spend money on the team when appropriate. This is the kind of guy we'd be wishing we had if he played elsewhere - spend the money to keep him. You don't let talent get away if you actually care about winning. Do we really want to go back to being a farm team for big market clubs?
  5. Based on his history - he absolutely has 30 home run power. He just needs to get his mind to align with his physical skills (if he still has them). Do the Twins have a psychologist that can work with him?
  6. I'd start by telling him he's getting a high inside fastball strike prior to throwing the pitches and see if he can get to it..... If he can't hit what he knows is coming (which he already should) - need to blow up his swing.
  7. I agree its time to send Lewis down. They've been reluctant to do this for some reason and should have a year ago. He needs to get right.... They've sent down 'stars' before when they were young and struggling - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. He's just hurting the team at the moment, and it can't be any fun for him either. Swallow his pride, take the assignment in St. Paul and get to work getting 'fixed'. We've all seen what you could become - go work for it.
  8. I gotta say, I'm a fan of bringing up Fedko and/or Sabato to give them a try. I think deep down, the leaders (minus the owner) know this team isn't doing anything great this year - why not try something new. Once one of our current 1B gets injured (we know they love depth and will not release any of them), hopefully Fedko (who I prefer because can play multiple positions) or Sabato will surprise them and refuse to be sent back down.
  9. Notice to Tom Pohlad..... You say you're willing to spend money. This is the kind of arm you want to resign IF you are interested in being competitive. In Ryan, you have a pitcher other teams would actually want on their roster. If you want to prove to the fans that you actually WANT to win - you need to resign the guy. If you trade him, you're demonstrating you are just another Pohlad with a different first name.
  10. This is easy for me - don't do anything until the season is over. Then - go ahead and make him a 2-3 year offer that we're comfortable with. He doesn't have to take it, but he might? We know we won't overpay a catcher (I hope) that generally don't age well as they get into their 30's. Is his bat good enough for 1B - maybe.... Otherwise, let someone else overpay him and we can run with Caratini and either Jackson, Carmago, Cartaya, or some other guy. Do we really think there will be much of a 2027 season anyway?
  11. I've been around long enough to know better than to get too excited about being in first place at this point in the season with the roster we have. I also know that sometimes a guy is just a good ballplayer. Maybe he wasn't a top prospect, but if we don't call the guy up the first time someone in our OF goes on the IL, why is he even in our system? No need to let Outman go, injuries will happen -they always do. When that happens, give him his shot. We've gotten to see people with lower floors on the Twins before - whats the worst that could happen?
  12. If I were him, I wouldn't worry too much. It is only a matter of time until someone gets injured, and then he'll get his chance. Its up to him what he does with it. I would expect he'll be in MN before June.
  13. I don't get this. While underwhelming as far as a signing goes, he was the best we did - so to see him leave is frustrating. Maybe we'll see a young guy in there after all. A failed starter I expect who does, probably have more long term upside if they can figure out life as a reliever. Still, confusing as to what happened behind the scenes as it felt like he was going to be our best righty out of the pen.
  14. I just hope that 4-5 starts doesn't turn into 9-10 or 15-20 because they want to let the 'veteran' figure things out as we lose most of his starts. I've seen some pretty long leashes for this franchise.
  15. Not all pitchers are made to have 10 year careers, even if they start well. Not sure if he's the kind of guy who can dial it up for 2 innings in the pen - but maybe time to consider if he can do that?
  16. This is perfectly said. Until Wallner can make the adjustment to connect on high fastballs, why would they throw him anything else other than junk out of the zone? If he can't make this adjustment, his career could be much shorter than hoped for - IMO.
  17. I would bet money that he'll make the opening day roster and someone else (possibly deserving to be in the majors) will start in AAA. This team loves their depth and hates to let people go, even when they should be.
  18. lol - I expect we will be competitive.... in at least a handful of games.... right?
  19. Agreed - I think these are all fantasy outcomes, but this is at least visible if I squint hard enough.
  20. This may the last chance the FO has to help get a return for our overstocked OF. Don't care which spare OF they send, just send someone for something we have a need for.
  21. Competitive window open or not, I'll always be willing to spend Billionaire owners money on my favorite team. Pablo seems like the kind of guy who might consider an extension like we did for Paddock. Maybe we could get him (at least for the first year of new deal) below market value and then maybe some team outs in case he doesn't recover as expected.
  22. I'm of the mindset that the traditional 'closer' can be part of the past. Put your best pitcher in to face the best batters - 7th, 8th, or 9th. That could mean we'll have 3-4 guys with at least 10 official 'saves'. Didn't think about having Hawkins being in the coaching staff could help us get an extra year out of older pitchers who may be running out of gas. If anyone can tell experienced guys how to make the best of what they have left in the tank - it would be him.
  23. Why do I feel a money savings idea is coming our way. You think if the Astros offer us a reduction in the amount we have to pay them each year for them to have Correa, they won't be happy to take one of our (or more than 1) extra lefty bats for salary relief? They take Larnac, Jackson, and we get $6M in relief going forward - only needing to pay the Astros $4M each year left in Correa's contract instead of $10M? Sounds crappy to me, but well our owners?
  24. What a sad state of affairs for MLB when one team's castoffs can become a star on a different team.
  25. Here's my 2 cents towards what Tom is saying. First - he's not a baseball guy. He's admitted that, and he probably doesn't understand that a below average regular can make $10M a year. In the normal business world - that's an awful lot of money. But now that he's in baseball, its just 'normal'. I wonder if he's having trouble digesting that as he makes this transition into the baseball world from his other Pohlad companies role. He probably figures other than stars Buxton and Lopez, we are paying, in his mind 'fair' wages for people playing baseball. Due to having a couple stars, and paying 'fair' wages, we should be competitive. I have a bad feeling that having a non-baseball owner leading a baseball team is not going to work out well for the fans. They may make more money, his top goal, but none of us will feel any benefit from that. Hopefully I'm wrong.
