  1. I can't help but wonder if one of the reasons they don't want to come here is the way the staff is handled, IE the "plan".
  2. You hit the nail on the head. I'll add in another piece. If the "plan" was to limit starters to twice through the lineup, They should have invested in a couple of 2-3 inning relievers, instead of filling the pen with so many one and done pitchers.
  3. My point is maybe messing around with his hitting style trying to get more power has totally screwed him up. I can't help but think about Ortiz back in the day. They wanted to change his hitting style to hit for better avg. and when it didn't they cut him. He went to Boston and they let him hit the way he was used too and now he's in the HOF. Martin did fairly well last year so that IMHO he either needs more time to adjust or just let him hit the way he feels right.
  4. Maybe its time to leave Martin alone and let him hit the way he's comfortable hitting. IMO if he can play defense, a lower avg. is OK as long as his OB avg stays reasonable.
  5. Ryan goes 7 twice in a row? I'm sure Rocco had to make sure his arm was still attached! Again it shows that guys can get through the 3rd time facing a lineup. I'm a firm believer that they should be given a chance to try, if they still look strong and the pitch count is still under control!
  6. She may not be on stage yet, but the fat lady is warming backstage! It was a fun 1st 2/3 of the season though. Expecting to contend when over half of your lineup is AAA players, and missing 40% of the rotation was too much for a team to overcome. The FO either needs to change direction or needs to go. Twins need a new medical staff, a new coaching staff, and a little luck for next season. Now the turn to Vikings football and soon to Wild hockey!
  7. The poor construction of the pen and Rocco's inability to manage a pitching staff is the #1 problem the Twins have had this season.
  8. Although this loss could be chalked up to a couple of poor defensive plays, Rocco's handling of the pitching staff has to change or he should be let go. Duran had been warming but not used the previous 2 games, In a pennant race, knowing the pen would be further taxed with 2 games on Sat. why wasnt Ober allowed to at least try to get through another inning? The front office also is to blame for stocking the bullpen with a bunch of 1 and done relievers! I just hope we see some significant changes before next year!
  9. The way Gordon has played this year certainly cements his roster spot. I am curious to see if Kepler looks better next year without the extreme shift. But I do see Larnach as a very important youngster that could be a key part of a lineup, provided he stays healthy.
  10. The only problem I have with pulling Bundy so early is using so many pen guys. To me it would have been better if 1 or 2 of those guys could go multiple innings. We'll see how this effects them in the Cleveland series.
  11. They should have put in the ABS (robo ump). Now that the pitchers are throwing upper 90s and above the umps calling balls and strikes seem over matched quite often. Also would like some sort of check swing review.
  12. I hate the ghost runner rule. IMO if they use it all it shouldn't be before the 12th inning.
  13. No there will no longer be the same distance between bases. The rule about throw overs is the one that I don't like. Only allowed 2 throw overs? I won't be a bit surprised if that doesn't get modified after the 1st year.
  14. This season has had many problems, yet due to being in a weak division, they still haven't been eliminated, Injuries like I've never seen, and to key pieces. Paddack, Mahle, Larnach, Kiriloff, Polanco, Buxton, Lewis, Ober, were all expected to be big contributors. Front office made deadline deals that looked good at the time, but haven't panned out as expected. They do need to realize the bullpen is an important piece of the puzzle and fortify that and quit messing with throw away starters. Finally was our coaching staff. Losing Wes was a huge blow in mid season. Rocco has failed in his management of the pitching staff, and failed in the expectation of playing fundamentally sound baseball. I hope they got the bad luck with injuries out of the way this year. The pieces are there for a good team next year. I have to question rather Rocco is the guy to lead them!
  15. I think Gray could have gone another inning, but at least we only used 2 of the pen guys. Arraez hurt is going to be a problem. Lets hope Polo can come back tonight, or at least for the Cleveland series, the lineup is getting awfully thin.
  16. Rocco gets credit for his record due to 2019 bomba squad. The last couple of years is more in line of what to expect. True high quality starters are not going to sign with the Twins due to the way he manages. Though I agree this year has been tough due to injuries, I also think his handling of the staff has cost us the division. This is a very young team that is still developing. As others have said, they don't play fundamentally sound ball, and that lays squarely on the manager. To help this team reach their potential next year IMO they need a new manager. Question is does the front office see it the same way? Probably not.
  17. This is one time that I agree with Rocco's decision to pull a guy. Ryan has another start against Cleveland this weekend. In order to keep their slim chances alive they will need him then. I can also understand and agree letting Moran go the 2nd inning was the prudent thing to do. This pen has been so over worked (Due to some of Roccos other decisions) that now they have 2 full days of rest. I would have loved to see the no hitter, but what if he goes back out there, throws another 30 or so pitches, and allows a hit in the 9th? now he would be questionable in Cleveland. I remember when Santana pitched for the mets and got his no-no, he ended up missing time afterward and really never seemed as dominate after. IMO Santana was much more conditioned for the extra pitches than Ryan.
  18. The FO should have known they had a bunch of 5 inning starters. Yet they did nothing to build a pen. Take Durans numbers out of the equation and the pen is one of the worst collection of 1 inning arms in the league! Is it the manager or the FO?
  19. While I agree that injuries have been a major hurdle to overcome this year, I still think they could have been overcome enough to win this division. The complete failure to build a reliable bullpen and the lack of managing the pen we have are IMO the problem that has the Twins in the position they're in now. Rocco needs to go. Bring in a manager that is better at teaching things like fundamentals. Someone who takes the stat sheet and research to use as a tool, rather than the gospel. Someone with flexability. The FO should also be put on notice!
  20. I don't understand how they keep starting Archer. He seems to be done at least this year. I have my doubts he can be a decent pitcher any more. He has lost the velocity on his fastball, slider isn't effective, and he can't seem to control any off speed pitches. Stick a fork in there, he's cooked!
  21. You are correct, Madden did lead the way in analytics. However, recently in an article on the Athletic he says its gone to far. At this point I think there is a lot of people that would be a better manager than Rocco.
  22. Just another in the long line of questionable moves by the coaches
  23. Not to beat a dead horse, but again I question why they don't push the starters further than the 5th inning.
  24. I agree that the coaching staff is bad. They brought in Hamilton to be a designated pinch runner yet they start him in the OF then pull him early, taking away your best pinch runner. So put a catcher in to P.R.? Watch him get picked off when he seems to be daydreaming? And what is up with Celestino? He should be one of the best (Quickest) base runners, but he seems to be choking under pressure. Then add in the fact the pen was stressed due to the 21 inning double header, and they pull Gray when he was pitching well, so Jax could pitch to the lower half of the lineup? Why not let Gray at least begin the inning and save a few more pitches from the pen! Who knows, maybe he gets thru the inning, maybe not, but IMO it would have been the wise move, and one a good manager would make.
  25. Next year could be a major problem at catcher due to the possibility of expanding the size of the bases. If they expand by 3 inches, that will mean a 4-1/2 inch difference from 1st to 2nd. Think about how close these SB attempts have been. IMO teams will run wild on Jeffers. If Sanchez wants to stay here on a much more reasonable deal he may be better for this team! On a side note, the Twins may be wise to find some more base stealers!
