  1. This was his 1st full year in majors. There are plenty of pitchers around the league that showed huge improvements after year 1. IMO that is what will happen with Ryan. 1 year is just the start.
  2. The Twins have had a tough time getting FA pitchers to sign here. They have made a few aggressive offers in the pat. I'm just guessing but the weather is probably the biggest fear. IMO the way the Twins manage the staff probably is also a negative to guys that can pick who to play for. Also, are the Twins even taken seriously as a WS contender any more?
  3. I just can't see paying that much for another injury risk. I would rather break the bank on Correa, or if that can't be worked out look into catcher and RH outfield w/power.
  4. I think too many people are focused on another starter. The only way I would go for another starter would be if he is an ace, and there aren't many of those, and the price would be much much more than Polo! I could see a trade for a strong RH hitting OFer, or even a good catcher. I would rather see them hold onto Polo for now and let him come back healthy.
  5. I agree that the dumpster diving for a starter just must stop. How are you ever going to get a chance to develop youngsters if they are blocked and don't get a chance against major leaguers? Sure they pitch in the minors, but that really can't tell how well they do against top talent. If they want to gamble on older or washed up pitchers, start them out in the pen. There is no need to sign any one less then an Ace this year, which this FO won't do. Focus on ss, c, and pen.
  6. I think they have already committed to Maki.
  7. I don't see any of them coming to the Twins. Maybe Thor on a year "prove it" type of contract. I agree with most of the posts saying they need to focus on the pen. A good pen would probably amount to more wins than any of these pitchers IMHO.
  8. IMO the Twins don't go after another top starter unless someone falls into their lap. Not only that, but I'm really not sure any top quality starter would want the Twins unless they overpay. I would focus more on the pen and catcher after either extending Correa or finding a good replacement. If I am GM I'm not counting a lot on Lewis until he proves to be durable and good enough to play every day.
  9. Better catcher but main thing IMO they shouldn't be as decimated by injuries. You know lightning strikes twice etc. This year probably would have been a lot better by improving pen, and even half the injuries. I think the pieces are there minus ss and catcher already.
  10. From what I've read and heard, the Twins have about $60 mil to spend just to get up to league ang. 140 mil. That should leave enough $ to get a very good catcher and a good ss. IMHO they should resign Correa for 33-35 mil for 7 years. That still leaves enough $ to get a catcher and a RH outfielder and some pen help. Before this year I would have bet the house against that happening, but now I doubt it will, but you never know.
  11. I say sign Correa. 7 years 35 mil? They are going to have some payroll flexability coming up. IMHO the other position of real need is catcher. Jeffers hasn't proved he is a starter, or that he can stay healthy. Sure it would be great to sign a great FA pitcher, but IMO that falls to #3. Its time to see if the youngsters can do the job.
  12. I'm not so sure they would with this FO/manager combo and their stubborn refusal to vary from "the plan".
  13. That is what I expect starters to do. Of course, none of these teams have Rocco as manager or Falvey/Levine telling them what to do.
  14. If this is the best of the Twins ss candidates, They should pony up the $$ it takes to keep Correa.
  15. I think he would go for a guaranteed 8 years at 35 mil a year, and add on a couple of club option years. The Twins aren't giving long term deals to pitchers instead opting for developing them on their own (which seems like a good idea on paper at least). That leaves enough payroll to invest in a high quality player and person.
  16. I would listen to offers, but IMO he is probably worth more to the Twins than they would get in trade value. I see nothing wrong with a rotation of Arraez, Miranda, and Urshela between 1st,3rd and DH. Although things can be a bit crazy in the off season, so maybe someone steps up with an offer. Maybe a RH hitting OFer?
  17. I think Jeffers poor results throwing out base stealers is going to get amplified next year. Either they are going to need a strong armed catcher (Sanchez?) or somebody needs to teach our pitchers the fundamentals of how to hold guys better, and we know how this coaching staff is terrible when it comes to teaching fundamentals.
  18. Maybe the front office needs to be more careful when signing players with injury issues. Either they are getting terrible advice from the medical advisors or they are too pig-headed to listen. Also, not to beat a dead horse, but getting so many pitchers that clearly no other teams want has to be a bad recipe for success. And last but not least, get some relief pitchers that are capable of going 2-3 innings at a time!
  19. I hope things go better next year, but I'm concerned this teams field staff won't be able to get there. After a total collapse this year they make no coaching changes? Why should we really expect more? I've heard the saying "doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome is the meaning of insanity", It sure seems that the Twins are going to test that theory.
  20. It is looking to me like this FO wants a bunch of yes guys. Its looking more and more like the FO wants to call the shots on the field too. After the last couple of seasons I would think they may realize its time to change something.
  21. For me age would be a big factor. I would be hesitant to sign an unproven player much past age 30 in todays game. I'm sure there are exceptions, but it seems for all the conditioning these guys get many just don't stay healthy.
  22. I pretty much agree with your ranking system. However, in todays game full of "snowflake" pitchers and the way they baby most of these guys, I think your payroll would be unsustainable unless you are the Yankees or Dodgers.
