  1. you know you really miss him...... ? https://www.mlb.com/rockies/video/bud-black-discusses-alex-colome?t=spring-training
  2. Absolutely. They blew it. This is what we have. I don't mind if the yankee visitors flame out too. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride when it comes to pitching. If we have a good one.... then they get rid of him. Even if our bats (which recently weren't rated that great compared to the other teams..... https://www.mlb.com/news/teams-with-best-lineups-in-2022?partnerId=zh-20220328-570896-mlb-1-A&qid=1026&utm_id=zh-20220328-570896-mlb-1-A&bt_ee=cdS1sErUAwyyoJTxwdz6C3f55NjhaPvLCdJ8smhEVxgoRo7JZe74VVRz0Lc6np6Y&bt_ts=1648475031986 ....... and didn't make the top 10 even..... score enough runs to get us into the playoffs, it sets us up to continue the record losing streak in the playoffs.
  3. Right, Rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery usually takes about a year, and basically starts the day after surgery. In some cases, up to 2 years are needed for athletes to return to their previous level of ability (hence the "rehabbing" in quotes). In Maeda's case, he will be 12 months September 1, and I read his hoped estimated return is 9/15/2022. He hopes to get some time on the mound this year, but that is really iffy, and would only happen if absolutely no setbacks, which are common. I don't expect Maeda to be close to his 2020 career best performance (in all of 11 regular season games/66.2 innings, and 1 playoff start) all of 2023, if ever. Maybe you do. I expect something, in the first year back, returning to their previous level of ability before the injury, like the mediocre 2021 that he did pitch - 4.66 ERA in 21 starts (Granted, part of that was during the onset of his injury - unclear how much or how long). It usually takes that year to get it back, and 2020 could very well be the best he will ever see, as he will be 35 April 11, 2023, and just past 18 months since surgery. It will be 2 years from surgery on September 1, 2023, with one month left on his contract. And unless the Twins sign a new 1 year contract, they are trading the players that they already have with 1 1/2 years to 3 months left on their contract (Pressly, Berrios, Escobar, etc.......) whenever they possibly can. No holding on until free agency, like the Braves with Freddy, or the Dodgers with Seeger, etc.
  4. 2 months of Maeda was very good. The next full year, he was not good and missed most of the year as well. Year 3, this year, he will not play, unless barely at the end of the year and have no arm strength to be a workhorse. Next year he will be "rehabbing" in a post surgery year. End of contract. Graterol will probably end up being the closer for the Dodgers this year. We will see what happens. I see 2 good months in a 4 year contract. I don't know how we get an edge for 2 months.
  5. The Twins, including the current front office, other than Duran, don't trade for velocity. (Mid 90's is not really velocity anymore..... high 90's and above is, and even Rogers doesn't really fit the bill there, either, and who knows how long his rested injured finger lasts......), and they don't sign velocity, either. If they draft it, they trade it. (Petty, Graterol, Gil, Ynoa for example as stated in article). I look for Duran to be traded when he proves he is healthy, if this tact continues. I found this article interesting, today. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/03/reds-top-prospect-hunter-greene-opening-day-rotation.html Hunter Greene, who we passed on to get Lewis, even with TJ surgery, will beat Lewis to The Show. We always need pitching, but never even draft the upper tier of prospects when we have the position to do so.
  6. Catching is still a mess. I would rather see Miranda now. Get rid of the damn Yankees. Never wanted them anyway. Yankees and cheaters. Just look the other way..........
  7. When your MO is to wait and be flexible and see what happens, very rarely an agent comes to you with a premade opportunity like Correa, but mostly, you are left with the bottom of the barrel and have to settle for pitching like an old Archer (or a Bundy, regardless of age), that is a hope and a prayer to perform even average, again. I hope the prayers work.
  8. Time to get ready for the season. These guys are not part of the start of the season. Sano (DH) and Sanchez (C) were placed at 4 and 5 in the order today against the Braves. 3 ABs each ....... 0-6, 5 strikeouts. It appears they need the work.
  9. Totally disagree. I hate the bogus arguing. It has always just looked stupid to me, and a waste of time. I feel the robo ball/strike is the most important rule change, for many reasons previously stated over and over (not on this thread). Ghost wins, ghost runners, and base size I hate. Pitch clock I support. Limited throws to fist will not last. I also like two fielders on each side of second.
  10. KISS Forget all the extra words to make oneself feel smart. You could do it the PECOTA way....... which uses lots more words, made up stats, and at the end of the season they are not usually that close at all, anyway.
  11. Buxton seems to have forgotten it is ST. No need to take that kind of chance at the wall. Smarten up, Byron. One catch is not worth being out of the lineup. Good to see some starters and 26 man roster players getting in games. Did you see Max Scherzer pitches 5 innings, 72 pitches and 55 strikes yesterday. Talk about ready. Our guys need work, but haven't even been playing in the games! And not scoring runs. Not hitting much either.
  12. Since the trade deadline last summer.... Pitching worse. Which was already bad. Shortstop lots better. Catching way worse. Third base worse. Prospects? They mean nothing until and if they make the MLB team better. 3 worse, one better. Hmmmmm. Pitching is the need. Pitching. Pitching.
  13. Nobody ever really knows the budget limit.
  14. Best article I have found/read about the deal. Some new no trade clause info, too..... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/03/twins-sign-carlos-correa.html
  15. Does this mean it's not cool to boo him anymore because he wears a different uniform?
  16. I guess Twins' fans don't really care about cheaters, and welcome them when it suits. I should know, as I am one. I hope Correa performs to his best level, and he should be motivated, as he is really looking for the long term deal. Probably a 1 season Visitor. I hope he and Buxton have a 2022 that makes it tough to decide who gets the vote for 2022 MVP. Personally, I would rather have had the $ spent on top of the line pitching, Story, kept Garver, no Sanchez, no proud cheaters, and am happy to not have Pineda available. But I encourage Pohlad to spend that money, and have some fun before he dies. It is only money, and one can only really use so much. May as well compete with the Mets and Dodgers and spend. Montas was a PED suspended pitcher (80 days, June 2019, for Osterine - which, of course, was a mistake as they all say), too. It seems character is not so important for the clubhouse, or fans, after all. I don't really mind. It should make for an interesting season, and much more anticipated than yesterday. I still don't believe it. I'll check in the morning to see if it is still true that Correa is the new shortstop.
  17. Can't read this. Thinking about our catching situation makes me sick.
  18. Thanks for this analysis. It looks even worse than I had supposed. And you didn't even get to what the liabilities are when he is catching! Garver for Sanchez. Yuk.
  19. We? Just an example. Check all you want. It will just confirm it. (The link shows all the divisions for 2021. Plenty more right there for starters. Braves, Giants, Padres, Diamondbacks, Cubs, Cardinals, Mets, Red Sox, Angels, Mariners, Nationals, Rays..... about half the predictions not even close...... ) I find the best way to check predictions is to see how they compare to the actual result. I don't even need math, then. Example: 200 negative PED tests, and just one positive, and all credibility and a trip to the HOF is lost,...... I can't keep up with all the arguers "rules". My comment. My rules. I promise I won't tell you how to comment.
  20. PECOTA is just more clickbait. Let's see how their projections came out from last year to check credibility....... https://www.mlb.com/news/2021-pecota-projections-breakdown AL Central Actual Twins: 91-71 (61% odds to win division) 73-89 Indians: 86-76 (25%) 80-82 White Sox: 83-79 (13%) 93-69 Royals: 71-91 (1%) 74-88 Tigers: 67-95 (0%) 77-85
  21. Perhaps for you. I thought it suggests that people change their minds...... if given enough time. Sometimes in a day. Sometimes in a week. Sometimes in a month, and sometimes in a year. Berrios had 1 1/2 years to do it, and did it in quick order. His agent most likely did the messaging. I know quite a few married couples that said no at first, too. It is fact that Berrios did sign an extension, instead of testing the free agent market in a year and a half as he said he was going to do, in pretty quick order, so speculate all you want.
  22. I said what I said. Read it again if you are missing the point. I am not addressing the ease of a job, then or now.
  23. It seemed Colome was worth at least 15 loses, though.
  24. Didn't want a new fake Berrios. Wanted Jose, who, regardless of how his agent negotiated, was willing to sign a fair extension.
