    Making an offer and making one that is competitive are often not close to the same thing in Terry's world.

    Trade Nolasco for CJ Wilson. Gets us a lefty and he certainly has more upside. Much rather have Wilson than any of the other guys. I'm not sure why LA would want Nolasco but what the heck. Stop signing NL retreads that doesn't work!

    The problem is that the "perfect " pitchers will cost north of $20m a year for many years and TR will never do that. So in order to improve the pitching staff you go with young unproven guys which seldom works or sign some flawed guys to go with the young guys and hope like heck you get a Hughes year out of them. Averaging 96 losses over the last 4 years should tell us we need lots of help. If you end up with excess that is a very good thing. Excess talent can help fill a hole down the road.

    Cards trade Shelby Miller to the Braves for Jason Heyward. 4 yrs of Miller for one year of Heyward? Not sure about this one.

    Masterson is a lot like Hughes was last year, coming off a down year. Hughes has been good in even years and not good in odd years. Masterson is the other way good in odd years and not so much in even years. Their good years are a lot alike as are their bad years. You can never have enough good pitching and he can be good at times.

    We'll see when the coaches are hired. If they are all re-cycled ex Twins or out of the minor league system with only a token outsider we'll have a better idea how this search really went. I wonder how long it's been since a coach has been hired that didn't have ties to the Twins, was an actual outsider? My guess is Joe Vavra over 10 years ago.

    Reported to want 5 yrs - $25 mill. 5 years of Maddon for what they pay Mauer for one year seems fair.

    He is going to want a lot of money maybe 5m a year. The twins can afford that but will Terry write that kind of check? I kind of doubt it.

    Prospects are never a sure thing so anytime you can add players that are better than what you have now do it. If the prospects are good enough you'll find a place for them.

    Mike I'm not real happy with what you just said but I'm not going to complain, today anyway!

    He'll be 26 next spring and have 9 years in the minors. If he isn't ready by now then he likely will never be. He needs to play on a regular basis for the Twins and either sink or swim. Then we have something or we move on.
