  1. I cannot believe this thread is still going on....and I've never read it until now All I have to say about unwritten rules.......... Have you ever played baseball? I played for quite a long time and as a pitcher, if a guy is crowding the plate looking for a pitch it's perfectly within reason to brush him back. If he doesn't move and gets a pitch on the elbow or you throw a little inside and get him in the ribs.....well that's the game. I'm not giving up my inner half of the plate because he is going to crowd me. I don't see the problem with giving a little chin music as a warning sign by a pitcher either. You hit a ball I hit 450 feet and sat and watched it, great, thanks for showing me up. Yes, you got me there, but that doesn't mean you might be getting one inside the next time you come up. Levi, you have brought up several times using the baseball as a weapon and throwing at people to injure them. While I'm sure it has happened, most bean balls are errant pitchers or are meant to send a message, not to injure. Also you have to consider that most people playing this game are people from the ages of 20-34 and are insanely competitive. Small things push peoples buttons. I've seen guys almost come to blows at a rec league pick up basketball game for unnecessary fouls and people hogging the ball, and this are for fun. Competitiveness and testosterone run hand in hand with high levels of competition.
  2. - I think May makes a better reliever than Pelfrey would. If they are going to replace him in the rotation, I would hope that Pelfrey is traded and May into the rotation. - I'm all good with trading for an AJ type player to match up with Zuke - I think Danny has shown a lot better AB's since he has come back up from AAA and it's not like Escobar has been lighting it up at the plate this year. I'm a wash on this one - All for Arcia coming up for Robinson. Power from the left hand side of the plate is something this team could really use - Why is should Graham's role be high leverage or off the team? Whatever they have done with limiting his exposure has worked out. Good RH reliever who is good for a few innings if needed - Duensing has allowed 0 runs and only 2 hits in the last month, which spanned 10.1 innings, not to mention which included a 8/1 K/BB ratio. He has looked like a much different pitcher than he did early in the season. - I think the good Boyer is done. His last 10 appearances or so have been pretty questionable. I wouldn't be surprised to see him replaced with an AAA arm - I wouldn't even say he has to be elite, I would settle for an arm like Benoit, but someone with some experience and that can strike someone out
  3. With the squad they have right now, I think making the playoffs would be a great goal. So much inexperience in the lineup and an over achieving bullpen make their record right now great. I would not be willing to pay a lot in talent, but that's just me. This team has a bright future.
  4. I'm going to say it's all going to depend on the starting pitching. If the Twins get starting pitching like they did in the 1st half, they have a great shot of making the playoffs.
  5. My question to you is how much is ABW, Ortiz or Harrison worth in a trade right now? Corner OF types who aren't big name prospects? Obviously Buxton is here to stay. Rosario, Hicks and Arcia have all shown flashes, but really no one has made a case that they are a long term solution. Rather than trade someone who lacks value, wait until someone pushes the issue.
  6. But if you have a high OBP guy leading off, a guy who hits a lot of extra base hits from your 2 hole is ideal. Your leadoff hitter is statistically only going to leadoff an inning once per game.
  7. Until Buxton shows he can hit major league pitching he should be nowhere near the leadoff spot. Long term, sure, I like penciling him in there, but right now no way.
  8. Not to mention is numbers have slipped every month this year. April/May - 149 AB, 11 HR, 38 RBI, 25 BB/ 26K, .322/.411/.611 June/July - 130 AB, 3 HR, 18 RBI, 16 BB/ 36K, .246/.329/.317
  9. If Perkins getting more cheap saves than other closers? His 28 this year: 3 run saves: 7 2 run saves: 11 1 run saves: 10 Regardless of what you think of the save statistic, he has been one of the best relievers in the entire league this year.
  10. And the offense went 2-13 against said ace with RISP. Argue all we want about not using May, they aren't going to win scoring 2 runs regardless if May pitched the 8th or not.
  11. I thought it was pretty good start from Pelfrey. He should have never been out there in the 8th inning, and really should have never been in there to face Gose. Leadoff single, O'Rourke should have come in to face the lefty. He really, really shouldn't have been left in after Gose squared one up on him either. I will take 7 innings and 2 ER ball from Pelfrey anyday. The offensive let them team down in this one. They had Price on the ropes in the first 3 innings and failed to come away with anything.
  12. He is an experienced arm who has a long track record and strikes out almost 9 K/9. While his low BABIP isn't sustainable, he has lost zero velocity on any of his pitches and XFIP is still below 4. The only thing that is a little worrisome is his BB/9 is a little high, but then again it's a very SSS compared to his career. If the damage wasn't much more than a C prospect and taking on the salary.....why not?
  13. OH! I missed that. I mean Santana's glove is better than his bat but......
  14. I'd rather see Rosario out in LF rather than Escobar or Nunez. With Buxton hurt, Hunter in RF, Hicks in CF......who else does that leave? With the current options, I also love his defense out there.
  15. I like d'Arnaud as a player but he and Familia for Buxton? Serious? I think that's a trade TR and Twins fan would end up regretting for decades.
  16. Capps wasn't awful in a Twins uni. Rick Reed was a solid addition for a year or two. We all know RIcky Nolasco has been a bust, but there really aren't a ton of examples of TR acquiring NL talent. Benoit isn't really an NL pitcher either. Outside of the 1.5 years in San Diego he threw 10+ years in the AL between Texas, Detroit and Tampa. A relief pitcher is a relief pitcher, regardless of the league anyway.
  17. Remember you are comparing AAA numbers with MLB numbers. But I would rather see Oliveros as well before dealing for someone.
  18. Huge blow to them. Only silver lining is that he will be back this season.
  19. I don't see why we should be looking at Sano in the OF and not at 3B. I know we have Plouffe there, but with the athleticism of Buxton, Rosario, Hicks, Kepler and toss in Arcia......there's not much room for a 3B who has never played the OF before.
  20. Now it's 9 scoreless innings in a row, giving up 2 hits, 1 BB and 6K and not mention he is getting a much higher groundball percentage than he was. Duensing was never the LOOGY. I'm really pulling for O'Rouke to nail that position down though.
  21. Pulling him mid-game and being replaced in the outfield by a pitcher is the curious part to me

  23. Do they all sing it as fabulous as Thorne just did?
  24. I think I would be more upset about giving up a 2-run double to Fryer if I were the O's, than giving up back to back HR's to Machado and Davis. Just sayin'
