How many star players have been traded in the last 20 years that have resulted in the team getting back a star caliber player equivalent to what they traded? You found one.

If I was a star baseball player the money doesn’t matter when it comes to staying in a city I do not want to be in. I have caught more flack for being the one to remind people that little things like the lack of attendance when the Twins have a winning team drives the payroll than you can imagine judging by your retort

The notion that a player is the team’s until they die went out with the Curt Flood ruling which was so long ago people should understand what it means. When trades are made because of money and impending free agency you can’t hold the post free agency date against the team that traded the player. It should be a pretty basic thing but far too many b people here do not seem to realize that money matters

The Berrios trade. The players Twins received have produced more bWAR for the Twins than Berrios produced in his controllable years in Toronto. Don’t like that way of looking at it? SWR had more WAR than Berrios. Still don’t like that way? SWR has never been a losing pitcher in a playoff game, unlike Berrios. Not a fair comparison, but it could be a parameter used.

People forget that when Falvey took over it was 3 outcome baseballl. The changes made to the baseball shifted the paradigms. Defense became more important when HR became more difficult to obtain. After a few more years the analytics changed for when to steal. Sabato was the last of the lumbering lumber players it does take ime to develop a player. There is the sage shaman’s observation “We want the the world and we want d we want it now”

You talked of a 1 40 million payroll https://www.mlb.com/twins/team/front-office Fire ever vice president. Andy McPhail never needed them. How assistant coaches and other coaches did TK have? He did alright. Fire the game day experience person, except if she doubles as the Sober Cab, lots and lots of people. Might as well fire the marketing people, too. All that should surely get the player salary up to Maylor money

The Dodgers won the deal if you talk about the season. Hard to say what would happen if they retain Byrnes. Now winning the trade is a different story Ortiz can’t hit, DL Hall is Diabled List Hall. Maybe that is fair compensation for 1 year,

Every team always want to improve their talent. Did not say it was a plan to hope for regression. If you looked at the through game stats over the season, most of the Detroit hitters fell off as the years went on. There is a reality to regression. It really did happen with the Tigers. That is not hoping, Sorry that me mentioning it causes you such anguish,
-
Your comment attacked the notion that Detroit will regress and Cleveland with their pitchers. That is a really different way to say the Twins need better talent. Really, really different way. The Twins don’t have a Skubal. Lopez and Ryan though more than make up for it because as the season played out last season, they really don’t have a proven 2 starter. There lineup consists of non star players. Torres is a free agent. The rest had career years. You want to have an opinion that is better, so be it. There is data out there. You want to ignore it, so be it You want to be negative on the talent of the Twins, so be it. Why bother to follow a team when all you want to do is be negative?

They could trade one or two of Larnach, Roden, Outman and Martin and the return might be a AAA reliever. If a team is contending they will want better than these. If they are not contending they would have to have a belief that they can become regular outfielders to build around. None of them have shown that.

What is penurious about not overpaying for a mediocre corner outfielder/DH.

I a not sure but when a team trades a player and picks up most of the salary I don’t think that player was anything more than the other team dumping a player. Still people will say DeScalfini was brought here for a purpose or was the centerpiece of the trade The Max Kepler non trades resurface once again. He was a 1,5- 2 war player. In what universe does that net anything bit a lotto ticket? There are really only 4 veteran players the Twins could trade. One has a no trade clause. To trade them for prospect like Miami does is not the way to build anything.

Time number four for attempting to post this as this site continues to have a problem with my server Briefly. Regression exists. Feel free to show me it doesn’t. You responded about injuries this year when the conversation was about next season. You are correct. The injuries could well affect the team next year and cause decline. That wasn’t the intent of your comment, but it is accurate for the situation. The Guardians’ pitching injuries are there as a problem. All it takes is a look. If they have a problem, they don’t have a backup. That is what happened to both Detroit and the Twins. The Twins had Michael Taylor, Manuel Margot (who was decent in Tampa) and Bader as backups for Buxton. Pretty disingenuous to use Outman and Keirsey as an argument. The FO has made efforts to have a decent backup. If Martin’s post deadline play is an accurate reflection of his talent, neither Keirsey nor Outman would be the backup plans. Why did you forget that Martin plays center field?

If the draft pick was a lottery pick the team should care. The end of the first round picks, second round picks are a bit of luck. Jeffers and Keaschall good luck, Miller, Sabato, bad luck On the other hand. No pick is no luck

Contention for what? Central division is always in reach barring multiple issues with the core. Both Santana and Hoskins are done. Father Time caught Carlos, Hoskins hasn’t been the same since he was injured. ACL I think.

There is nothing in their history that says Detroit abd Cleveland will return to the top of the division. Cleveland blows through pitchers arms. Detroit got career years out of several players. If enough of the ifs go the Twins way they can be competitive in the division They also could go the other direction A case can be made for each.

Further improvement would be he becomes Michael Tonkin.

Laweryson has a mid 90s FB, his secondary pitch are a cutter and a change. He doesn’t appear to be a command pitcher. He got by in his 7 innings by unfamiliarity. That only works for a short time

Shane Smith was an all star yet received only one down the ballot ROY vote. Just a reminder that somebody had to be the All Star on a team. Batters below the AAA level may be drafted but rarely are kept. Baddoo might have been the last one. Useful, but not a loss to the system. The roster sits at 33. If the top 6 are kept that leaves little room to add relief pitchers. I don’t think they would go with that many RP who are not established. One of Krieder or Fitzgerald would have to go. Adding Klein would mean someone like Adam’s is cut and they plan on using him in relief .Fedko had one good year in the minors. If he or Rosario are protected it would be at the expense of Keirsey and McCusker. When the list of who gets announced there will be a lot of words said here in the oh no variety/ At the end of spring training there will either be trades or returns I would guess they keep the first 6 mentioned and Klein.

Which player was blocked by a veteran? I do not think the answer should be a player the team could have found out that they were worse than mediocre except for the veteran player
