Shelby might not know many in the front office. Most of the front office that he would deal with now were not in their current position when he worked here. I don’t know why a bench coach would be working with the minor league operations guys. When he was here the hitting philosophy was the Bomba Squad. I think Sabato was the last high draft pick that was in that mold. So I doubt that he would know the organizational philosophy. Hopefully his days as a hitting coach taught him that you can’t make a player what they are not as a hitter. None of the sleuths here have come up with complaints about how he handled the Pittsburgh pitching staff. -
3 days on the job and you expect him to know how he can play with the players he has never worked with except for Buxton. His goal of sound fundamental baseball out of a team that very few were at or near their ceiling is a lofty goal.

Yes anyone should have been very few, but it is irresistible to see what can come back.. Gallo was an interesting case for the Twins. Many players do not do well playing in NY. The Twins hoped he was one of them. They tried and failed. Bader came here after failing in NY and did well. You just never know. DeBarge is still in the low levels. Pitching isn’t as good. Everyone is trying to refine their game.. DeBarge will need to hit better because the walk rate will go down . See Julian’s numbers. -
I have been told many times that i am wrong to think a baseball player in their mid twenties should have been versed in fundamentals after playing a game for more than 10 years. They tell me I am wrong to think by the time a player reaches the majors it is on the player if they have poor fundamentals.

Day 3 of the new job for Shelty and he is supposed to have the answer to questions about a team in transition. Half of the 40 man when he took over could or should be gone by spring training. Corporate baseball speak is about all anyone will get out of the other recent hires. . Just chill, wait to see what he gets to work with

The front office works in collaboration with the manager. I would guess it wasn’t Baldelli hanging out the help wanted sign. The front office has their opinion on pitching. Maki appears to have the same vision as he has retained his job. I doubt this front office is going to change that. As far as most of the rest of the coaching staff, better players make you look smarter. Just ask what’s his name in Toronto. Look bad coaching Margot, look like a genius coaching Springer

Did you bother to look up what happened that year or do you just scout the final standings and ignore the rest.

SWR, Festa and Mathew’s appear to have been limited to 80 pitches or so,, so 60-70 would be about right for the lower minors. They are working on increased velocities so they need to first increase the strength., hence there are a number of pitchers on the 4 innings every fourth day. Maybe some writer here will write about it, but there are reasons i wouldn’t expect them to do so.

Franconia averaged 89 wins a year, Voght 90. No difference. Francona was having health problems so he resigned. They did not catch the Tigers, it was more like the Tigers fell apart down the stretch. Without needing the crummy 4/5 starters Detroit was the better team

They generally use pitch counts, not innings. It is why there are so few CG in the majors. Since the stat boys follow such stuff, they just might have a clue about limitations.

They fired Ryan for total system failure. Pretty much the same team gets into the WC round. The core of Bomba was Ryan’s system failure guys. Sometimes it wasn’t the GM. There always will be fall guys. The club under Bill Smith is an example of when it was right.

Base stealing has gone down for years. I guesss a few 100 managers aren’t as smart as the fans who complain about the lack of base stealing.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the Twins other than to say that they need better players.

The odds of what will happen with the talent you have. Determine what the manager does. He basically was left with small ball talent so he had to play small ball.

Any owner is not going to spend more than the revenue. A new owner will have a short term tax break if their outside income is high enough to use it.

You could say that about any of the other candidates, the twins hired many of the other candidates that were hired by other teams or interviewed for other teams.

Depending on what is out there to sign. Any reliever out there looking for a bounceback year to get a closer contract is going to come here. Same for a catcher, same for 1b. The team may be rebuilding but those holes really don’t have anybody to fill them So the tab well could get up to the 110-120 range.
