  1. Wouldn't have been simpler all around to just state the Twins do not have tradeable players for Archer rather than propose the umproposalble? It is the sad truth that the Twins really do not have the assets for the big trade. The last tradeable asset the Twins had was Span. Last tradeable prospect was Ramos.
  2. Turley is not quite a journeyman. Journeyman seems like he is filler. What he has is potential. A lefty who can throw in the low 90 is going to keep getting chances while somebody tries to figure out what is going wrong. He is throwing a greater percentage of his pitches for strikes. A little better control means less walks. Less walks hopefully means there were less 3 ball counts and ended up throwing a little easier pitches to hit. Find out on Sunday.
  3. Luis Sardinas UT/AAAA player for the Padres Cuthbert fringe mlb with the Royals Victor Payano AAA or AA in Miami's system Johendi Jiminian, Colorado AAA Rosel Herrera Colorado AAA one time top 100 prospect a few years ago Santiago Nes Independent league I guess the Twins won that year for the ranked players Bogarts , Jose Ramirez, Domingo Santana, Eduardo Rodriguez and Maikel Franco were not ranked thus giving an impression that these rankings do not mean a whole lot.
  4. 8 WAR through age 28 as a top pick Wright would be between Trevor Bauer and Gerrit Cole as a player. No position player in college would project to be be much, either. The projection system might be considered a guide to the player's floor. As a floor they would be predicting 5 starters and a lot of relievers. The system for projecting needs refinement.
  5. I think that Kepler is just like Carl Furillo but just a little bit different.
  6. What in house prospects? Guys with an ERA over 4 in AAA? AA starters with little time at that level?
  7. He had a decent 2015. That is one more of decent work than Tepesch
  8. Ryan Mills was a long time ago. The thought process that went into drafting a player likely to be there with your fifth round pick should be long extinguished. You can't use the cheap label as Mills signed a draft spot appropriate contract ergo they liked what they saw as a player. The can't miss prospect in a draft of can miss players as Adam Johnson. Again, anything that went into the decision making process of Johnson is long gone.
  9. Longenhagen's take on Wright Kyle Wright Wright has an impeccable pitcher's frame and his stuff's consistency has improved as the spring has worn on. He sits 92-94 with his fastball but will bump 97 with life, he has a plus, low-80s curveball with two plane movement and a mid-80s slider that is effective when well-located. The Red's version of Nick Nelson had this to say Physically, Kyle Wright has everything you want from a starting pitcher. He’s 6′ 4″ and 220 lbs. His mechanics are clean. He’s shown the ability to absolutely dominate high level college baseball. There haven’t been any health concerns during his time in college. The stuff is unquestionable, with four potential plus offerings depending on where you look, but it seems everywhere gives him a chance for at least three above-average pitches and a fourth average one. When you are drafting at the top of the draft, Kyle Wright is exactly the kind of player you want to look for. There’s superstar potential there. He’s going to be relatively close to the Major Leagues as a college pitcher coming out of the SEC. The concern, if there is any, is what happened to start the 2017 season and the inconsistency he showed at time time. With that said, the run he’s been on over the last five weeks shows he’s capable of rebounding and self-correcting (I’m sure with the help of his coaches, too). While I’m not entirely through all of my draft research, as things sit right now, Kyle Wright would be at the top of my draft board if I had to make one.
  10. Maybe Perkins can spend some time studying Jaime Moyer
  11. Funkhouser did not have a great senior season and thus fell. The inconsistency factor by reports. So far in A+ he is doing well. Cody did not develop so his stock dropped. Funkenhouser lost 1.25 million with his gamble versus a negligible gain. Cody lost a half million versus a couple million gain if his off speed pitches had developed.
  12. Vanderbelt won the Clemson regional of the NCAA tournament over Clemson
  13. Listed at 6-foot-5, 230 pounds, the Phillies 25-year-old right-hander has a matured build with a strong lower half. Appel has lots of moving parts in his delivery making it tough to repeat and throw consistent strikes. His arm works well and it’s a fringe-average three-pitch mix at best across the board (fastball, slider, changeup). Appel’s fastball was 91-94 mph and fairly straight and hittable. The lack of movement and overall command results in an average grade fastball. The slider was 81-83 with short, vertical break grading as an average grade pitch but does not project to be a legit swing-miss offering. The changeup was 83-85 and a clear third offering that was straight and fairly flat, playing more as a BP fastball. There’s not much, if any, projection left with Appel and he appears to be a solid Triple-A organizational depth arm that could make a few spot starts in case of emergency at the major league level. http://www.thegoodphight.com/2017/4/25/15405352/its-time-to-make-mark-appel-the-reliever
  14. I thought the Twins were sending a message with their finger Seriously Wimmers is best suited for a long relief role. With this staff, you need them. Mejia, Santiago, Hughes, Gibson have been 5 innings or less pitchers. A team needs a long reliever. Molitor might know a thing or two
  15. Yup, outside of the top tier that free agent market was brimming with relief pitchers that are successful this year. Proper medical staff would have foreseen all the injuries. Pressly's implosion after 3 years of growth should have been obvious for all to see as well as Tonkin's decline. Kinzler,, Duffrey, Rodgers, an effective Pressly, a serviceable Tonkin, Belesle pitching like he did the last two years would be serviceable as a bullpen with any of the multitude of prospects stepping in at mid season. Breslow, Haley,O'Rourke, as plan B.Rucinski, Tepich and Wimmers as plan C Perkins being available falls under the category of widhfullthinking Sometimes things go very wrong. But yeah EVERYBODY knew this off season this would happen.
  16. If Wimmers can put up a 4 ERA it makes him a better option at this point than quite a few of the relievers and a couple of the starters. The Angels, Mariners nor Giants are what the Asros have been offensively. Of course that could change... With the Twins starters not named Santana or Berrios not getting out of the 5th inning or less the Twins may need 2 relievers capable of multiple innings.
  17. Ricky Molasco and Phil Hughes haters say hello. All the mentions of Mauer's contract. A lot of people seem to care where the money is spent because it does have an influence on the team. The point was about finding solutions to the bullpen issue. Year in year out consistency is hard to get. The number of busts in the free agent market outweighs the success. Analytics have not figured it out.
  18. I do believe they can talk to the picks beforehand to gauge interest.. It would be a huge gamble for Greene to refuse a signing bonus even a million under slot and think he will do better in 3 years
  19. Daniel Hudson, Brad Ziegler, Brett Cecil, Mike Dunn, Junichi Tazawa, Travis Wood, Santiago Cassila. Joe Blanton Neftali Feliz, Plunk down the money and be on the hook for a bad contract. Of the 18 contracts over 4 mil a year handed out, half are not living up to the contract at this point.
  20. That would be like getting Capps again. Subtraction by addition.
  21. 2 years of Shields and 4 for Davis cost the Royals an all star 1b, a very good young starting pitcher, a middle reliever, and a 20 million dollar contract of a now utility player. Chagois, Burdi, Melotakis, and Reed were suposed to be the lights out bunch. So far, no luck Belisle has had 3 bad games that have inflated the ERA. Do you seriously expect a reliever to be perfect every time out? For a near minimum veteran he is providing what was paid for, seviceable work.
  22. If he thought less he wouldn't be thinking about pulling a reliever
  23. The impossible dream is to have 7 perfect relievers . Not going to happen. As a team they have had 6 blown saves all year. That two of them happened in the last two days is inconsequential. The team's has lost 8 games all year (Mea culpa if fangraphs is more than two days behind). Compared to the rest of the league, they are doing very well. Rucinski has been the extra person call up. His performance shows why he is not on the MLB roster all of the time. He would likely not have been on the roster today except for yesterday's game. Pressly was serviceable the last few years. The bullpen coach that someone thinks should be the pitching coach has not figured out what is not working and what was. Belisle has let only one inherited runner score. 3 bad games out of 2. Breslow has has one bad game, today's. The issue is not Breslow or Belisle unless when they were signed they were thought of as eight inning relievers. That is the issue. The cost of an eight inning reliever is not cheap, nor is avoidable. Any of the touted relief prospects for one would be a god idea.
  24. I did not know that Molitor was the GM, too. Are Terry Ryan and Rob Antony real people or are the Mortimer Snerd and Charlie McCarthy?
  25. Masterson had 2 good years and a lot of back of rotation years. If they were going to give up lottery tickets for pitching I would rather see them grab Oaks than Masterson.
