  1. I do not know. I did not comment on it so why are you asking me?
  2. I would guess the new bosses did not like the outfield play. There goes Davis. I would guess they do not like undisciplined hitting. There goes Bruno and watch the trades for who else goes.
  3. The return on any traded 3b was a pittance compared to value. The free aagent contracts signed were of minimal value. Plouffe certainly was tradeable. The consensus would be it is a bad idea trading for nothing when a player is at his likely peak
  4. The leg weakness last year I thought stemmed from batting. How did he hit without using leg muscles before? The whole leg weakness thing sounds like there is something wrong and they have not figured it out yet
  5. Wow, great example of how people have no honesty when looking at an issue
  6. They have a program to filter and sort. Any program is only as good as the effort that went into it. The number just seems off. The total AB of the teams are very different. The filter could be including all of the AB of a person who played DH. The same time period though shows how underperforming the Twin's bats have been So it seemed unlikely that they were using all of the AB of the player or the Twins were really effective in their use of the DH given the players they had. There are people out there who have access to better tools might be inspired to look rather than take fangraphs word for it. Like this response, I really didn't want to spend any more time on it.
  7. Unscientifically, because I am not trusting their filter, fangraphs leader board by team has the Twins with 117+ wrc for DH from 2011-2016. Good for 6th place in the AL. They would then have as a team WRC batting of 92. How they have used the DH would be, if those numbers are accurate, decent enough. Better if they had kept Ortiz, but there is no saying that Ortiz would have had the same last 7 years either.
  8. The market that the A's are in is the same as the Giants. The decisions they have made have resulted in them being a small revenue team. They are not a small market team. The attendance when they were winning in the early 1990s was near the league best. Every other team since then has figured out how to get a new stadium but them. Small revenue by their own action
  9. Some of the publications that looked at the trades of Cleveland and the Cubs the deals that turned out best were the deadline deals. Lots of scrap got dealt. Gems did rise out. It took a while. Any Dozier trade that helps the club in the long run is likely going to involve players that probably are not going to help the team this decade. The best hope for quicker help is Ervin Santana having a very good year and being dealt to a contender at the deadline. Same for Gibson.
  10. UZR150 says that Seager is a little above average. Sample size of one player to make a projection. Very scientific One of the writers over at minor league ball said the Gordon adding about 20 pounds of muscle would be Cano. Time will tell
  11. When you speculate a 60 WRC+ I assume it is based on some research . The same research that would cause someone to say Bogaerts and Seager are great shortstops when there is not a single defensive metric to back that claim Take Farnsworth's word on Gordon Gordon has a collection of all-around skills that could eventually conspire to produce one of the top shortstop profiles in the game. He has shown an early strength in making contact and working the count, with a solid line-drive approach and the speed to take extra bases at every opportunity. He’s a smooth fielder at short with a plus arm, already looking like a major-league regular at the position defensively. He has the swing and raw power to develop average pop, but it may just be a question of whether he decides to gear his approach for it or not. I think he ends up coming a bit short, if only because he’s going to be so good at hitting line drives and letting his base-running instincts pad his extra-base hit totals. He won’t need power to be an excellent shortstop, though fully tapping into it would put him in the impact tier at the most important position on the field.
  12. The point you missed so badly on is that Russell is great at shortstop defensively. He is considered great not for his bat. He also spent only 11 games at AAA before being promoted to the majors. That he has more power than Gordon is really insignificant.
  13. Gordon hit better in A+ than A, 112 WRC says he is far better than average. He has been 2 years younger than the average age at every level he has been at. Some time in 2018 is not out of the realm of possibility if he continues to improve. An average bat and stellar defense would make him a great shortstop, see Addison Russel for one example. You can't just say batting makes the shortstop, see Eduardo Nunez play shortstop.
  14. Starlin Castro with 3 years left on his contract says hello
  15. Dozier is not Donaldson. Not even close. LuCroy plays a premium position with very few premium players. Dozier has a limited market unless the Twins are selling low. If they are not selling low there is no real reason for a rebuilding team to trade for him. Blue Jays, Dodgers, Orioles, Giants and maybe the Angels would be the contending teams that could use a 2b. Yes the Angels are not contending, but do not tell Arte Moreno that. . All it takes is one.
  16. Hilarious that no one has said not to sign him.D o not overpay. There is a difference that you missed by a long way
  17. Thyrlos set the comparison to Blackburn based on skill set reported by others. Feel more than free to do some research
  18. The chance of a prospect in the 50-75 range accumulating over 3 war in 6 years is almost 30% That is, most prospects in that range have a career worse than Nick Bleckburn's. (3.3 bwar for a career) How much grief has been heaped on who ever signed Blackburn to 4/14 contract? It sound like a big deal to be a top 100 prospect, but the statistics say more likely to bust as be a success in that range. A half million bet for a prospect in the draft, great. The Cuban prospect getting an mlb contract with that upside would cost how much? Likely enough to alter whatever the team can spend the next year on the IFA market. A player needs a higher ceiling.
  19. A starting rotation oh Hendricks, Arietta, Montgomery, Cahill and whoever else is in their system might be in the playoffs, but not for long.
  20. I do not think anyone has ever said they are bad due to payroll. Payroll limits what you can add. The bad is not due to the one or two players you can not add. Payroll comes into play when you are good trying to achieve excellence .
  21. The Twins can afford a Lester type contract. Joe Mauer currently has the club big contract They can't do two of them while having 5 other player earning over 10 million each.
  22. Depends on who they replace Lackey and Hammel with and how Lester and Arietta age. Underwood bombed in AA, anyone else is a ways off. Zobriest is 35. Montero is 32, Fowler is a FA and the wrong side of 30. Years and years might be 2
  23. Sean Manaea says hello and thanks for the coaching in KC farm system. Down the road a couple more years will be a better judge of the draft.
  24. Larger sample size, Atlanta
  25. Look at Atlanta's playoff record with the staff they had. Johan Santana is 1-3 in the playoffs. You need 2 of the best starting pitchers, it is still a crapshoot if they are going to rise up.
