  1. I hope that Falvey is not the new Andy McFail. After Calvin's players got old look at what shape was the team in? Augment and win then run so it may take a few more years for people to realize you were lucky.
  2. Compared to the rest of the league this year, the Twins are average in the number of home runs. In 1964 221 HR as a team led the league by a large margin. The late great Earl Weaver loved the 3 run HR. It would be nice if once in a while if the current Twins could accomplish that.
  3. Please do not be eating. Here is a list from Cot's Starting Pitchers Brett Anderson Bronson Arroyo Brandon Beachy Andrew Cashner John Danks Jorge de la Rosa R.A. 4. If college was not an option then what were his choices? 4.8 is what he would get as a top 3 pick the following year. He still got the second highest bonus that year,.
  5. If every one else must go, so must Audra. T and A is available somewhere downtown for you. New ideas, not the same old thing is what you wanted.
  6. What is the excuse for Swnson and Moniak signing under slot? The fact is the club has leverage. The player might not get picked that high again, and hence lose money the club doesn't lose the draft pick for not signing the player.
  7. Why would you give up a couple of million that you could entice a different prospect with? A lot depends on leverage the Twins would have. Correa went way under slot. He probably did not have another option. Of the recent top 3 picks, Rondon was the only one to get more than slot. Swanson went 2 million under slot, Monial 3 million. It would be necessary to find the player in the later rounds still available to spend the money on.

  9. Are you doing this without reading numbers?
  10. Baseball rankings are a beauty contest. A lot of subjective.
  11. Hope he can pitch as well as the left hander that came out of FGCU.
  12. If the new Grand Poobah of the club thinks the first and second year position players are going to take a step forward this year then it would be likely that 2 of the slots in the bullpen would be FA closer, FA set up guy. The evaluation process might lead to the necessity of one more year of development/mediocre play. That should lead to a fairly young bullpen.
  13. If Vargas regresses next year he will be an ancient 26 year old losing value. Trade them when their value peaks has been the motto.
  14. jhan's post That is what I get for not quoting the post that was shortly before mine. Yes the awful Twin's pitchers have been only successful twice with sacrifice bunting. They have a combined 3 hits. 14 strikeouts. Not a whole lot of success doing anything There is a limited value in sacrifices. Playing for one run is the ideal use. Then the question becomes what is the next few batters good at doing when you have a batter at first with no outs. If the answer is GDP then a sacrifice is a far better alternative.
  15. It still does not change the flaw in the premise that it cost 7 wins. The imagined injustice of Molitor having players bunt is not there. Last I checked there was still a significant portion of inter league play. If you have the numbers that do not include pitchers batting that would be fine. If pitchers bunt more unsuccessfully than other batters then it would also throw off the win probability numbers of a bad bunt attempt.
  16. WAR is not meant to be a perfectly precise indicator of a player’s contribution, but rather an estimate of their value to date. Given the imperfections of some of the available data and the assumptions made to calculate other components, WAR works best as an approximation. That is from the definition of fwar. Joe Scmiidt now has credibility? Shouldn't you be beating the drum of selling when the player's value may be the highest?
  17. The bunting argument would only make sense if the Twins had a significantly higher number of bunts than other teams. League average so far his season is 70 per team, the Twins have tried it 79 times. Not a big difference in 5800 plate appearances.
  18. 39 year old Kevin Cash would be lucky to see 41 as a manager, Andy Green, 40 in San Diego might not be long term or the job, either.
  19. Every AAA or AA manager is usually free to seek a big league job, hence a contract that is expiring.
  20. Palka and Walker say that you are wrong
  21. Likely the least of the issues. Other teams have far greater potential and resources than the Twins. As other teams get lucrative TV contracts, tje Twins will drop. Anything a new GM wants to do will cost money.
  22. They ruined him by making him start. In Baltimore his leverage index is .62. He is the mop up guy when the game no longer matters. He did have a good half season in Pittsburgh followed by a year of mop up duty
  23. Over the last 3 seasons Dozier has put up about 14 WAR. Over the same period of time Quintana, Cueto or Bumgarner have put up about the same WAR. Somehow I do not think anyone is going to trade equal value. I do not think anyone will give up a a AA pitcher with number one potential n the off season for Dozier because even though that level of player isn't easy to come by, it is still harder to find a front line starter.
  24. Myer 4 innings 4 runs Meat analogy would be Braunsweiger A J Achter 0 runs 2 innings If he keeps up with the mop up role he will start showing up on people's OMG the Twin's missed n this guy list
  25. Yet you are the one comparing Twins to Vikings. . I guess one conference final under this ownership group in 10 years is a winning tradition and an elite formula. Elite formula for baseball would probably be defined as consistently putting yourself to be in position to be lucky in the post season. How do you get the right player at the right moment for the right price and move on? How do you get the career year out of someone than move on? It is not an easy answer because in the AL no teams have been consistently there near the top with a rotating team.
