  1. Trienen played for a winning team, his leverage index will be higher when he finishes out games the team is ahead. The data on pitch framing a few years ago showed that outcome of a game was no longer in doubt that more strikes were called. This year's drop in K/9 and increase in ERA would say regression. When I read the local story, Wahington was not shedding tears they gave up a great pitcher. That he is also 29 and will be Arb eligible makes him not a comp to Duffey. The comp was a poor one. Luzardo is a high ceiling prospect. Nusse was described as Mike Olt with a hopefully better outcome. Not quite the same as the proposed package for the Twins.
  2. Shannon Stewart, Neil Cotts was making 3 mil. About what Doolittle makes. If you but look.
  3. Can the team give up a prospect and trade for the pitching coach of San Diego. Have any of his players done better after moving on?
  4. How. The money is guaranteed. It is there as an expense for the next 2 seasons.
  5. There really isn't a lot of elite athlete data on TOS. Matt Harrison had it in 2009 and it took him until 2011 to come back. 2 years later other injuries would derail his career, but the first tos did not. But it is realy important to make the decision now based on no idea of anything.
  6. With half of KC entering free agency, most of the White Sox traded, most of Detroit on Gerotol, the Twins are a bad year for the Indians away from being able to once again limp to a title.
  7. Cahill and Hand for a few of the over 22 prospects and Gibson. Gibson would have a chance in San Diego for a few good starts .The Padres could flip him for another prospect. Gibson pitching well is San Diego would generate a few angst filled threads
  8. For the Astros, Dodgers, Boston or the Nats he could possibly waive it. That would be legitimate shots for the playoffs. Arizona or the Cubs would also be a possibility. Counting on a hot streak by the Twins, not so much.
  9. Zimmerman has a full no trade clause.
  10. It really isn't too hard to figure out what he meant. Treinan appears to be a mop up right handed pitcher. Duffey is hardly a comparable to that. Luzardo is a lefty with a mid 90 fastball and a big curve A high ceiling, high risk prospect. because of already having TJ. Balazovic has neither similar pitches , handededness, nor the ceiling.. It was a bad comp.
  11. Duffey is much better than Luzardo. Hopefully Balzovic's ceiling is higher than what Trienen has done.
  12. Noam Chomsky over the years has had some interesting things to say about sports. There are plenty here who validate his thesis with the actions you describe.
  13. The side note would be a very short thread by itself. Some teams have the short season A and/or an additional rookie league team. The rookie and short A teams are all about the same average age of players so it does not look like short A is being used for players out of college. In essence it looks like it gives teams more players to look at for organizational filler. If a team or two were having success developing late round players with the additional teams somebody would be writing about it.
  14. Prove your claim. Success at predicting should be greater than 50/50.
  15. A study cited in an espn article. Really, do people not know how to find things on the internet?
  16. Yup. top 10 ranking means as a position player you have about a 36% chance of being a stud player, 24% for pitchers. Somewhere close to 50% bust rates. It is not being wrong on one or 4 prospects, it is half of them.
  17. All the access and the geniuses had Judge rated 93, 45 63, B/B-, prospect this spring.
  18. There would be little evidence of any prospect trade happening before it does. Depends on how the Twins rate Romero and Javier. If what Javier is showing with the bat this year is his potential moving forward they likely are not going to move a potentially top 5 shortstop with another piece you find attractive. If you are convinced Romero will be a solid mid rotation starter and effectively a ground ball pitcher you are not going to trade that with anther higher ranked player for a number 2 starter. In 5-10 years there will be the answer. In trading for potential the studues have shown Jimenex will be the stud player 36% of the time. Cease about 7%. Jimenez will likely be a solid player, but it is a 44% chance he ends up a replacement level player.. Cease still can develop and move up the rankings. Or he might not. What makes Jimenez tradeable is that the Cubs must believe in Scharwber and Heywood will be unmoveable with that contract The Cubs are a bit desperate. Although significantly behind, they still have a shot. It has been done. The Cubs have been beneficiaries of desperate teams, now they pay.
  19. Kyle Kendricks was traded for.
  20. If you gave up the equivalent of what Texas had to give up to get him and Diekman, it would be a good deal. The Pohlads would especially go for it because Pohlads love that player named cash.
  21. As the tout has been what MLB pipeline has for their rankings as the god of assessments I looked at their past rankings. Oh the horror and sin of not looking at every ranking known to man.
  22. In your mind, no. In a general manager's mind trading for nothing but potential you could make a case for it. The potential for Javier is the nearly the same as for Jimenez, which is to be very good for their position. That Javier and Jimenez had a 45FV on fangraghs at the same age might be meaningless to you, but potential and development. You also need to keep in mind the two players play very different positions.
  23. Jimenez at 18 was unranked. Sano at 18 was unranked. As is Javier at 18. The trade brought the White Sox potential. It is not unreasonable to think that Javier in two years could be as good as Jimenez is this year. Cease may have ace upside the chance of him getting there is small. As good as Quintana is you are not going to trade an ace prospect. See Trey McNutt. Injuries derailed him. Cease has one pitch that works very well. The curve is inconsistent, The overall comand is poor. Ace potential is there with a lot of ifs.
  24. As a measuring stick one could infer that Santana could be worth a top prospect and a pair of lottery tickets. The Mike Leake trade might be a better measuring stick (Adam Duval, mashing OF). The Rich Hill trade should be an example of what not to do.
