  1. One should not stop exploring, nor should a team overpay. A 6-3 loss is the same as a 4-3 loss in the standings
  2. Kazmir was considered a front of the rotation talent at the time. Leake at the time was the Reds number 2 starter. with a track record of durability . The return was not that great for the level of talent. Recent trades of non star pitchers at the deadline do not bring great returns. That Garcia is having a better year than the last year does not improve his value Garcia at this point last year had similar statistics to this year. before tailing off at the end of the year. Will Garcia tail off again in August and September again? There is only a guess with the recent evidence pointing the wrong way.
  3. Santiago will have a rhab start on Wednesday It is not like Santiago had a maor operation. Out of sight out of mind for some. He still exists, he still is under contract and there is no reason to think he will not be back.
  4. Maybe Garcia as a rental has less valur than you think. In 14 games how big of swing is he going to make in the win column? Is he going to get you 3 more wins than a healthy Santiago?
  5. 2015 deadline trades of Scatt Kasmir, JA Happ, and Mike Leake trades would say you are wrong.
  6. That they wanted a prospect back would give one reason to think it was Stewart. His pecking order as AA prospect is probably behind the other three starters. That they were rumored to want a prospect back indicates they still think highly of him. Romero would fit the same profile of pitcher with medicals. I do not think they would ask for a prospect back if it was one of the many relievers with medicals that are currently pitching.
  7. Top 30 of Atlanta, not baseball. Dykstra not projected to be much of a hitter, Eliis has a ceiling of middle relief, not even set up. Gant lacks command to be a starter. At almost 25 still has not shown command to be a starter, has given up too many runs yo be a reliever. That is not any different than a year ago. The Cards dumped a starter for low ranked prospects.
  8. 9 g, 11.2 IP, k% down to 18.6% Whip of 1.03. The sample size is small. Would not say disappointment, but definitely slow to adjust to adjust. Not ready to be a prime time player.
  9. The beloved 87 Twins, 05 Padres, 07 Arizona, 84 Royals, and the 97 Giants. made the playoffs with a negative run differential. Texas in 15 and 16 were very close to even. Less than 20 to the positive The 2014 Cards, also sneaked in. As the back end of rotations get worse it will be possible for good teams to have negative run differentials and still have some success in the playoffs.
  10. Maybe Miami did not value Wade and wanted something that the Twins were not willing to give up. Maybe the Twins' lottery tickets are viewed as scratch offs where miami was looking for powerball tickets.
  11. Ellis and Dykstra show up where on prospect reports? Ellis has an ERA of replaceable. Essentially nothing.
  12. The premise that Minnesota is a destination for pitchers based on Colon signing? The improving defense helps the team, the rest is dependent on money offered.
  13. What is your opinion that you are trying to support? Bottom third of 36 pitchers in a 15 team means absolutely nothing given that the nl has used 127 starting pitchers By WAR he is 41. That looks better. By any metric of pitchers starting 5 or mre games he is in the 40-50 range. All any of it means is he has good days and bad ones, just like any league average pitcher. 1/3 of the games he stunk. 1/3 he was very good. That is better yhan the other 4/5 pitchers the Twins have thrown out there
  14. Atlanta essentially gave up nothing to get Garcia
  15. Thank goodness a trade does not take as long as a dfa. The speculation is something else.
  16. For almost the equivalent of Lamont Wade and 3 filler for Phelps. the rest of this year and next year. I do not see it as a bad trade for either side
  17. For virtually nothing? Opinions are great. As are fantasies. Wilson has drawn interest from multiple teams, Verlander has a no trade.
  18. A little old, but why one of the reasons why one shouldn't get too wrapped up in prospect rankings http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/how-many-good-players-were-good-prospects/ A little older, but of entertainment value https://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2013/3/25/4112598/which-non-prospects-contributed-in-the-major-leagues When 1/3 of the 3 war players were not ranked as prospects, breadth perhaps is not a bad thing.
  19. You would appear to know enough to say the team is lacking in high upside prospects. Lesis, Booker, Leach, Enlow, from the last draft are all talked of as high upside as well as the recent lists of prospects that talk of upside. I suppose if there are not potential ACES at every level there are no pitchers with upside..
  20. I don't think the Twin's AAA teams have ever won the AAA title game, therefore they have never done anything. The Lookouts won a title, but that must be tainted because the Twins had older players This thread has given me a new way to look at things
  21. Well, Alex Meyer has fallen to a 15 ish prospect . The world seams underwhelmed by that trade.
  22. A lead of 4 runs or more is a very low leverage situation.
  23. The last time a single player addition could have made a difference in the outcome of a season was 2010. They likely used their trade piece on Capps. To get the then equivalent of a 10 million dollar player would have cost Sano.
  24. They were contracts of players not paid like the bottom of the scrap heap pickups like the many minimum wage contracts picked up this year. The team went out and picked up a veteran player that was being paid a significant amount. Doolitle has a 4.38 million for next year and a buyout of $500000 after that. The buyout would only be likely if he bombs as a nl pitcher. If they pick up his option that option is for 6 mil with a buyout of .5 mil the year after that.
  25. The fire sale Sox still have time to trade Clippard for another prospect.
