It sure would have been nice had that last flyball gone another what, three feet? But win or lose, it is one game, one of 162. I came out of the afternoon excited about two players, really excited. One was Duran. Holy Cow, what an arm. Yes, one game doesn't make a career, but this kid could/should be special. My second point is that Luis Arraez reminded us, especially those clamoring for him to be traded, that he also is special. Will give you an excellent at bat nearly every time he steps into the box. Gotta drive the opposing pitcher/team crazy as he battles deep into each at bat. I don't know about others, but I want this young man both healthy and in the Twins lineup about 150 times a year. Perhaps keeping him out of the outfield will help with those knees.

Big Rogers fan, yet was concerned last year when he wasn't as lights out prior to going on the IL. Granted, the injury may have had something to do with that. Although I will miss him, as I suspect will the team, I understand the trade. I am also curious who the PTBNL will be? Or will that end up being cash, although if cash is an option it is usually stated when the deal is announced. Could this be a legit prospect? Or will it be more of a throw in? I know nothing about the Padres system, but am hoping it is a solid, young catcher.

Twins Opening Day Preview: Joe Ryan vs Robbie Ray
roger replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My prediction is Ryan goes 5 innings, allowing 1 run. Buxton and Correa each get 2 hits and score once apiece. Sanó is 1-4 with the hit being a long two run blast. Kirilloff and Kepler each come up with a big hit, helping the Twins to a 6-2 win!- 9 replies

I don't know what to think of this trade. And some of that is that I don't know what to think about the two guys joining the Twins. Are they good? Or not? And more important, will they be good for the Twins this year and next? Although I expect nothing is official, but is there a fifth piece to this trade and is it coming to the Twins? If so, who? I don't know what to expect from this year's bullpen, but I have always liked Rogers...a lot. I will miss him and expect the Twins bullpen will also miss him. On the other hand, this trade certainly makes the Twins starting rotation deeper. When they signed Archer they went from five potential starters to six. This gives them seven. Yes there are other young prospects, but most/all of them aren't ready for the big leagues and won't be ready until at least mid-summer. So I don't know what to expect, and the truth is none of us do. It should be a bit comforting that the Padres manager last year is now a Twins coach and they should have had some inside knowledge of these two guys. I hope?

I may be in the minority, but I do not want to see Max traded. I want to see him in right field for the Twins every day.- 17 replies

Miranda had that one error, but also made a couple very nice defensive plays. Seems to have a cannon for an arm.

REPORT: Twins Working to Acquire Padres RHP Chris Paddack
roger replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You are right Chief. Which means he will probably be gone by the morning. My question is what could the return be for Rogers AND Larnach. Can’t see Larnach not being in the deal as he was pulled from tonight’s starting lineup? -
2022 Ft. Myers Mighty Mussels Opening Day Roster Preview
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Like the switch to having their low-A team at the Fort Myers complex. As for this team, am really high on a several position players. Appreciated Dman's comments above, especially those related to Cavaco. He has moved into the 'show me camp' for me. Hopefully, this will be the summer he does. With Miller, Rodriguez and Rosario, this team should have an excellent lineup. Will see how the pitching does, but can't wait to see Raya getting some innings.- 8 replies

Great seeing a real baseball game last night, although the MiLB Louisville announcers kept cutting out early in the game. Thought that Lewis looked solid defensively. Made all the plays look routine, which is what we could hope for. Should be exciting while at bat and on the bases. Miranda did not look comfortable at the plate, although that was a real nice play to end the game. Thought Larnach made solid contact on that ball that was caught on the warning track. Two months from now that would be out of the park. The bottom of the 9th sure reminded us of how the baseball gods can affect a game. A check swing dribbler down the third base line puts the lead off guy on in a two run game. Seemed that Cano has awfully good stuff and should be ready to help the Twins later this summer, if needed. Will be interested in seeing how many of their starting rotation are prospects versus minor league veterans?

How Long of Leash Will Chris Archer Get?
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Can we wish for one to be 90% of what he was at his best and the other on a short leash and gone by late May with one of the young guns replacing him? I sure would be pleased should that be the outcome. If I had to guess, my money would be on Archer being the keeper.- 39 replies

2022 Wichita Wind Surge Opening Day Roster Preview
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Expect you will disagree, Mike, because of a small sample, but he tore up the AFL a couple years ago when he was named MVP. Will admit that the AFL seems to have changed some from what it had been, but still awfully good competition. Like many, I was disappointed in his numbers the summer before that AFL performance. But we don't know what he was dealing with that summer. Was he playing thru injuries? Was he working with his coaches on changing some of what he does when at bat? Was he just plain hitting into some bad luck? We also don't know what he showed when he spent 2020 at the Alternate site. The little I heard was that he was looking great. Kid seems to have too much going for him to be anything less than a star. I for one sure as heck hope so, the Twins need their own Derek Jeter at short once Correa moves on and am looking forward to watching tonight's game to see the future left side of the Twins infield. Watched a lot of the Wichita games on MiLB last summer and to be honest, wasn't that impressed with Martin. Granted, I only saw maybe 8-10 games after he came over from Toronto. Liked his speed and hustle. On the flip side, the kid began his professional career in AA. Don't remember if the Twins have ever done that, have they?- 33 replies

2022 St. Paul Saints Opening Day Roster Preview
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Kept wondering about Balazovic as I read, until right at the end. Kid has had so many injury problems, seems like he never can just settle in and pitch from opening day on. Any idea, Seth, whether this is a day-to-day problem, or longer term? Gotta love this team, at least on paper. Should have a tremendous outfield and better infield. Starting staff should be solid with all the vets and get better when/if Winder and Balazovic join the rotation. Although I guess it is best for us to wish for Winder to be lights out for the Twins and he never sees CHS field this summer or next.- 23 replies

2022 Wichita Wind Surge Opening Day Roster Preview
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Yup, and it is one hell of an infield. Although not certain who will be playing first base, maybe one of the catchers? Certainly gotta love a starting staff headed by Canterino, SWR and Varland. Question, Seth, are some of the pitchers starting the year on the IL? Rosters are what, 25? See 12 position players and 16 pitchers for a total of 28? Who will be the other two starters? Schulfer and X?- 33 replies

Yes there is a big reason to send him down now. Expect they have made their decision that they want him to play every day and not ride the bench. If that is true, they will ship guys on the 40-man early because if injured before being optioned they would both be accruing service time and paid the big league minimum while on the IL.

So many comments here and over the past few weeks/months relate to not signing a big name starter in free agency. I think we all need to realize that likely isn’t going to happen. It appears this FO is not willing to sign any pitcher to a long contract. I don’t know whether their limit is four or five years, but it likely was one of the reasons they weren’t able to get Berrios signed to an extension. Considering how many of those long contracts end up being a disaster, can certainly understand their position.

Question about your comment that Palacios will be the Saints primary shortstop. Wasn’t Lewis optioned to the Saints? If yes, won’t he be their shortstop?

Wow! May I suggest that Twins fans sit back, open a cool one and relax. Let's give the starters they have three or four weeks and then see how they are doing after four or five starts. What would people prefer? That they give Oakland whatever they wanted in a trade, gut the team for the next decade? Gotta believe the fact that Oakland didn't get a trade done tells us alot about what their asking price was. And who knows, after a brutal 2021 this team may just be very exciting to follow.

Twins to Sign RHP Chris Archer to One-Year Deal

Josh Winder Shouldn't Make the Opening Day Rotation
roger replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Have a question for all of you who are lobbying for the Twins to make that big trade, most wanting one of the Oakland starters. But what if Oakland is sitting back and asking for the sky and the moon? With it reported that there are multiple teams talking to them, why hasn't a deal been done with someone? Sounds like their ask just may be unrealistic. If that is the case, aren't the Twins better off going with one of their prospects versus signing another aging, average at best arm? I don't know about y'all, but I would rather have Winder and/or Balazovic and/or Duran than this year's version of Pitcher X. It is also true that the FO and coaching staff knows a heck of a lot more about these kids than any of us or the many reporters filling the twitter world with news every day. Who knows, they may believe that Winder is ready and expect him to do very well!- 48 replies

Totally agree, Doc. But we don’t have any top, exciting prospects who are catchers. Wouldn’t it be great that we found that guy at #8 this year? -

Report from the Fort: 3/24 News and Notes
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Huge believer in Josh Winder. Just might find himself in the rotation to start the season. Maybe Josh pitching 4+ innings as they will certainly be concerned with his innings. Might work great with one of the long guys following him for another 3.- 12 replies

REPORT: Twins Sign Veteran RP Joe Smith
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Found it interesting, Seth, how Jax pitched 2 innings yesterday following Ober’s start. Could see him doing that all year, Ober start and throw 5 with Jax coming in for the 6th thru 7th or 8th. Could throw another inning a couple days later and neither would be stressing their arms with too many innings. Would keep Ober around 150 innings and Jax at 100 plus.
