Like many of you, I was expecting more scoring by the Twins. But let’s remember who wasn’t playing yesterday, Larnach, Correa, Urshela and Arraez. Sanó was also out, although that may not hurt their chances of putting up more runs. Loved the lengthy, detailed report Sherry. Do have a question, however, dealing with your comments about AK. You talk about his surgery to ‘that’ joint, however never define what joint you are referring to.

So happy to see Canterino pitching this well. Understand keeping him on a short pitch count. Kid could be that ACE every team dreams of. So after going 4-4 on Thursday, Miller goes 3-5 with a double and home run. Continue believing in this kid’s future. Julien and Martin are similar players. Versatile in the field, very fast with limited power. My question is who will be the better big league player?

Twins 2, Athletics 1: Game of Firsts Ends in Twins Win
roger replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Around the sixth or seventh inning last night, I began thinking about what I was watching. Miranda’s home run in his fourth or fifth game, Lewis playing his first game, Winder’s second start, Larnach’s bat and big arm, Celestino doing very well his second season with the Twins, great prospect AK back with the team with hopefully a pain free wrist, Jeffers the man behind the plate and still young, Ryan and Ober in their second seasons and doing better than expected and Duran throwing 102 out of the pen. WOW! This team is so very young AND talented. The coming five plus years should be a lot of fun!- 68 replies

We all hoped Lewis would get off to a tremendous start after missing two full years. But I expect most of us are pleasantly surprised that he has hit this well. What a fantastic night for baseball...Josh Winder on the mound for the Twins with Royce Lewis at shortstop. I for one am so hopeful they are still doing that six, seven years from now.

I understand there are lots of questions surrounding what a team can and cannot do this year when hit with COVID. Adding players not on the 40-man may only apply when/if the number of cases are higher than the current situation. Expect we will see Lewis tonight at short as Correa's replacement. May he get off to a great start, please? Is it possible Bundy was a bit under the weather on Wednesday which led to some of his problems on the hill? I certainly hope so.

Interesting. Also expect this is a small step towards eventually having a menu and being able to choose what channels/packages you want to pay for. Will be interested in seeing what their package will include. I don't understand what 'out of market' is. Is their package only Twins home games? Or is out of market all the other games in MLB or Sinclair/Ballys? Switched from Hulu to Direct TV last month for the sole purpose of getting the Twins this year (and the Wild).

At first I thought no way RJA, as he is so new to the organization. But I guess college players drafted in 2019 are eligible for the Rule 5 this year. Wow, not a lot of time for these guys to prove themselves with the wasted 2020 season. Was great seeing Lewis with a couple hits and hitting over .300. Going to be interesting to see when something opens up for his first taste. With him playing shortstop every day, doesn't seem the Twins are grooming him for another position. Kind of sounds like they are thinking he will be their shortstop in 2023? Had been thinking maybe even August, 2022, but with the way the Twins are playing they aren't going to be sellers this summer! Also good to see Kirilloff with a couple hits. AK is hitting mostly singles, hopefully the power will return once he feels more confident that his injury is behind him. Hopefully, that will be soon as the Twins really need him to man first base. Don't know what to think about Headrick? Is he this year's Louie Varland? Although the season is still very young, sure seems like the kid has a big league future. Isn't it exciting following a lot of the pitchers the Twins have drafted in the second thru ninth rounds the past few years? Their plan seems to be working.

Twins 7, Orioles 2: Twins stay hot behind Ryan, Bats
roger replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Granted, Ryan wasn't as sharp as his last few games. But there were so many weird plays that led to his jams. Expect it will be a minor bump in what will be a very impressive rookie season. And yet, the Twins still won the game. After watching Cleveland roll out young starting pitcher after starting pitcher for as long as I can remember, isn't it great watching the Twins three young guns?- 42 replies

Reevaluating Minnesota’s First Base Depth
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Jason Kubel was a super star in the making, until that short fly in the AFL changed his career. Is a nagging wrist injury doing the same to AK? I certainly hope not, but we won't know for a couple years. Am I concerned with Arraez and Miranda manning first, not really. Expect Arraez defense will improve with every game played and hoping that Miranda's 2021 bat comes around over the coming days/weeks.- 48 replies

I was also more than a little surprised with how well Wells threw last night. Was impressive. Another thing I really liked about Paddack was his pace. He got the ball and was ready to pitch. I really liked that.

The Next Twins Prospect Promotion
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
i don't know what the Twins plan is for Lewis. And no one knows when/if someone will get injured and a spot opens up screaming for him to come fill it. What I do hope is that the Twins plan includes getting him some time with the big club so that when he does arrive for good he doesn't have those first time jitters. Let's get him some experience this year so he is ready whenever his time comes to be here to stay.- 55 replies

The Next Twins Prospect Promotion
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I don't know what to think about Correa, other than recent reports that he really likes it here and would be open to a longer term deal. As for the specifics you mention, none of us know what might happen just as none of us thought there was any possibility he would be playing shortstop for the Twins at the start of this season.- 55 replies

Had to think about your comment, Dman, that Wells was the better pitcher last night. And yes, I agree with that. But Paddack was also very good. First game I have watched that he was pitching, really like how he throws it up there.

Thanks for the report, Seth. Sure looks to be a fun summer of baseball, especially for the Twins. Thought last night's game was special. Reading today's report left me feeling most excited for how well Lewis and SW-R are doing. Haven't had a chance to watch the Lewis interview, but gotta believe he is more than satisfied with the start to his season after being on the shelf for two years. After last year's trip to Tokyo where he sat in the bullpen, SW-R sure looks like the pitcher the Twins hoped for when trading their ACE. Saw that Balazovic made his first appearance of the spring recently. The results weren't very good. Did you hear more about how he did, Seth?

The Next Twins Prospect Promotion
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Interesting question. Lewis appears to be the next man who should be called up. But call ups will be determined in part by position of need. Another factor that will play into it is when he is called up is there a spot for him to play most games, ie, not sit on the bench. Cannot say how pleased I am that he is doing so well. Seems to be confirming what we all thought/hoped for back when he was drafted. Should the rumors be true and Correa really wants to stay with the Twins, they are gonna have to find another spot for Lewis to play. With Polanco at second and hopefully Miranda at third, outfield remains the only answer.- 55 replies

Prospect Retrospective: Cole Sands
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What stood out to me was that his family got to the game on what, 24 hour notice? Assume the four they kept showing were his mom, sister, brother and wife/girlfriend/sister-in-law. When he was struggling, I thought the blonde gal was going to chew off all four fingers she was so nervous. But what a great experience for Cole and family. -

Also agree that I would put SWR #1. But having two lesser known names amongst this trio is E-X-C-I-T-I-N-G!

What the Twins Can Expect from Jose Miranda
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Haven't followed the Saints as close since the Twins began playing. Had noticed that he was off to a slow start, at least compared to last year. Glad to see from your comments above that he has picked it up of late. As for what can we expect, well the same first game for the Twins that he had for the Saints last summer would be ok!!! Will be interesting to see how long he stays.- 29 replies

Twins 9, Rays 1: Garlick Powers Twins to Win
roger replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Like how Archer is throwing, especially after his having almost no spring training. Seems like Larnach is a different player in his second year. Good to see Kepler’s average moving up. Can’t find the words to describe my thoughts on Duran.- 24 replies

Are you also a Brewers fan? Have you checked out Brewer Fanatic?
roger commented on Brock Beauchamp's blog entry in Battle Your Tail Off
Interesting. Where in Wisconsin are you from, Brock? -
With the Twins rather thin behind the plate, what are reports about Mack's catching abilities? Sure seems like his bat is coming around. Interesting move from third base, had he done some catching while in high school? Love the start SWR is having this spring, but is anyone else concerned with the number of walks and less than 60% strikes? Thanks for the report, Ted.

Thanks for the summary, Seth, love it. Recall your writing about Helman when he was drafted, or sometime around there. If memory serves, he has hit very well at every step of his development, probably all the way back to Little League. So there is no reason not to expect him to hit well at AA and hopefully, beyond. Will double down on the above comments about Raya. Am so excited to see him pitching in games, finally. Hopefully, he has a full, productive season and can be on the fast track to Minnesota. How do you maintain winning team's year, after year, after year? With pitching, pitching, and more pitching! Sure looks like the FO is well on their way to developing that throughout the organization.

Always enjoy these recaps, Nick, thanks. How about adding one stat in each of these weekly reports. That would be the Twins record this season with Buxton playing and their record when he doesn't appear in a game? Got a feeling those two stats would tell us all we need to know about how their season is going.
