    And thankfully we play in the AL Central, or the season would already be over. The new schedule is exposing how bad this division is. But let’s keep running out the same lineup and expect different results.

    Ok.. this BS of blaming umps for missed balls and strikes needs to stop… it goes both ways and is truly a pathetic argument/excuse for the mounting losses. Secondly…. Julien’s defense has been subpar since he was called up, he is constantly missing plays that most MLB starting 2nd basemen make. Does his offense negate his shi•• defense… I think it’s too early to tell, but to date, no.

    That is a really positive outlook.. however, 3 hits off the mighty Cole Irvin and 5 over 10 innings won't win you many games. The Mullins catch was nice, but the lack of offense wasted another quality start... that has to be like 30 quality starts wasted this year.

    Nice game, the Correa to lead off with Solano batting second is working…let’s leave that sequence alone. Just keep winning series…. I know it’s KC, but give credit where credit is due.

    I don’t think any of us know what it’s like in the clubhouse. From the outside looking in it appears everyone is out for themselves… the body language, not just the Atlanta series, doesn’t look good. We know last year the starters were frustrated with the quick hook. For the most part Rocco has done a better job this year with them. There have been some questionable bullpen decisions this year that I believe have cost them 5-7 losses. The refusal to play small ball when we are in these extended scoring ruts is maddening, especially with the quality starts we have wasted. I guess my point is you need respect to ask for accountability…. Maybe Rocco is… but this is year 3 of underwhelming and sloppy baseball and yet nothing really changes unless an injury forces the issue.

    I would agree if this were a critical/big win game…. a playoff game, etc, It’s not. People in general like to know their role and expectations,, being moved around at a whim, IMO, brings uncertainty. The constant lineup changes reversal in roles on a day to day basis is unsettling and counterproductive. I would also disagree about the closer assessment, the best relievers on the better teams finish games.

    Are you really a closer if you’re not finishing the game? I find it hard to believe Duran was going 2 innings after pitching yesterday. You see this all the time… elite closers struggling in non-save situations. If the plan was to have someone else pitch the ninth. Much like the rotating lineup and batting order the manager loves to roll out, Duran should be used exclusively in save situations… I would bet he closes it out in the ninth if pitching with the lead yet. Quite frankly this is all irrelevant with this putrid offense. Until there is some serious changes to the lineup this pattern probably plays out all season.

    Not if they DFA Kepler. When they signed Gallo there should have been a corresponding move with him. Now he is blocking a promising young player with high upside. Tough decision considering Keplers last two games… but still is the right call.

    I would agree and I don’t think there is a fan on this site that wouldn’t love an 8-10 game winning streak… however what I have watched the past month is some truly uninspiring baseball from the everyday players. . One game doesn’t change much if they can’t win this series and come home and string some wins together.

    Lets calm down and see if the mighty Kepler and Gallo can sustain anything resembling a major league approach. It’s a start, but one game doesn’t really change how putrid this offense has been.

    Up and down this lineup there are way too many under performing players. It starts with Correa, Buxton and Polanco constantly injured. I was and still am alright with the trade. The one factor I am unsure of is how valuable Arraez was in the clubhouse. He seems like a leader that had the ability to maintain a positive attitude which appears to be lacking on this team. Maybe Correa is that guy if he is hitting… but the body language in the Atlanta series tells me this team, if hasn’t already, is close to done. Also Rocco allowing the plate approach of HR or bust should have changed a month ago… we have the SP and BP to contend. It’s time to dump Kepler, get Jeffers more AB’s, limit Gallos AB’s and start trying to play some small ball early in games to manufacture runs and try and play with a lead. Taylor is not an everyday player… but it seems like he’s the only option at this point. I’m getting tired of talk on this trade… we are horrible offensively and mediocre on defense…. Time to shake things up because what they are doing isn’t working.

    Could be 3-4 games under.500 before the next home series and no longer in first place in the weakest division in baseball. And we still don’t make any changes…. at what point does the brain trust recognize this isn’t working? Seriously, I look at this lineup and think we should have a good team… yet halfway through the season we are just a lost group of losers with zero leadership. Really pathetic considering we have a decent starting rotation and top line closer. Close to calling it over…

    Yet again… unable to keep a winning streak going… against a rookie pitcher, pitching for a really bad team. They may win the division, but only because they are in the AL central. These are games quality teams win… we are not that.

    I’m for a major lockout when the next player union contract/agreement negotiations are being bargained. Guaranteed contracts are a joke. Players should get “their” money in their signing bonus and have to earn the rest contract $$ on the field. If you can’t perform due to injury or regression the team should be able to release the underperforming player. Since there is no hard salary cap in MLB this would free up money to release guys like Buxton, Kepler, Gallo, and Polanco and move on. The front office did a poor job of constructing this team, at least with everyday and BP players. Now we are stuck with a crap manager and a crappier team for the foreseeable future.

    The Arraez trade is what it is and I am alright with it. As bad as this lineup is it wouldn’t matter having a .400 lead off hitter just being stranded.99% of the time. The Mahle and Lopez trades were inexcusable…,we were already in free fall mode at the time. The team was done at that point… losing those prospects for the production in return should be a pink slip in return. Then the FO doubles down and extends possibly the worst manager in the league. Yes… Rocco’s teams are poorly managed, zero fight, poor fundamentally and uninspiring. All in all we should be sellers at the trade deadline with a special assistant assigned to oversee any potential trades. We suck… good day!!

    A win despite another questionable managing decision. Gray should not have been yanked in that situation... period. The starters have been reliable all season and deserve to work through adversity. 6 IP and 0 ER and only at 78 pitches (or close to that). I cannot wonder what Gray is thinking after watching the game iplode after being relived after 6 strong innings. Anyway... Lewis was a game changer... at least for one game. Gallo and Keppler continue to be abysmal... it's a win and was much needed. Time for some veteran leadership to step up and get this team rolling.... the starting pitching and Duran give hope that this season could be something special.

    They get a win... but this will be the fifth series loss in a row. Playing .333 ball won't get you very far. They need to start string some wins together when they return home.

    So true about Ober and Varland. I get the Mahle over Varland angle... but Ober clearly was better than Maeda coming out of spring. I don't know how other organizations operate but rewarding underperforming veterans for their mediocre/awful play has been a trademark for this team for a long time. We send down Wallner and keep Solano on the roster for Kepler and his uninspiring and lackluster play. Everyone knew what the results would be in signing Gallo and keeping Kepler... an absolute disaster. The FO has setup the homerun or bust approach. This offense is unwatchable. Have they won a game after trailing after the 5th inning? Seriously, they have zero fight. All of this with one of the better rotations in baseball. Is it the players or the manager that deserve the criticism for the play the last month and a half. Zero emotion, lack of execution and situational awareness, poor defense at the worst time, cannot hit with the bases loaded, BP meltdowns, it goes on and on. I guess you cannot fire the underperforming players so it is the manager that should take the heat. I cannot believe his contract is fully guaranteed, something needs to change soon and if it doesn't in the next two weeks brining in a different manager with new approaches should be considered.

    Players that perform shouldn't be bounced around from the big league to AAA. Much like Ober should have been a starter coming out of spring training, Castro has proven he deserves a spot on the roster. You have trade chips in Kepler and Polanco, one can be used to help the BP if the offer is fair, otherwise cut bait with Solano when they return.

    Hoping he is starting at 3rd base on Memorial Day. Gutting out two ACL surgeries and recoveries with a positive attitude... great article on the young man.

    The most frustrating piece of this season is we haven't had starting pitching this good in like forever. SP wins games, or at least it should... and they continue to hand game after game away. An article earlier in the year talked about a batting coach change, I said then and will again... a change is needed, but it should be the manager shown the door. The decisions made on almost a daily basis, are head scratching at best. The change should have been made last winter, but instead an extension was the reward for this inept product. Knowing nothing will change I will continue watching and hoping Correa and Buxton become white hot and carry them to a .500 record and a playoff ousting sweep to keep that streak intact.... but we could pitch a shutout to end it,,,, fingers crossed when/if they get to that point.

    I don't know the exact number, but it seems that Jax and Pagan have cost the team around 8-10 wins. While the offense hasn't exactly been tearing it up and leaving too many runs on base, these two are unreliable. Jax has been a huge disappointment after looking good last year. How many times can you keep running the two of them out in high leverage situations before they completely demoralize the team? I would DFA Pagan and send Jax to St. Paul and bring up anyone that has an ERA under 3.00. There are enough bodies and someone will shine. Duran is the most unedrutilized arm in the BP because no one is capable of holding a lead.

    The wasted opportunities with runners in scoring position has cost them at least 7-8 games. They are terrible at scoring with runners on 3rd and less than 2 outs. They refuse/can't advance runners from second with no outs.... the top of the top of the 7th provided another great opportunity to build on the 3-2 lead, even a run that late in the game provides some cushion, but their lack of execution and inability to hit with runners on base cost them again. Lot of time to right the ship however. The BP has really been bad the last 5-6 weeks. Will need an arm or two before the trade deadline if they want to make a strong showing in the playoffs... yes they will win the Central this year and win a playoff game breaking the 0-18 skid. .

    I was in favor with the Arraez trade, but it definitely left a hole at the top of the order. Kepler leading off is not the answer. I would say Taylor against lefties, makes contact and could steal a base... if they were a team that utilized that option. Buxton has led off before, although not my favorite option. Polanco against RHP? Do something. I think you have to move Correa down... until he hopefully turns it around. Polanco moving to second when not leading off, Buxton than Kirloff? What is currently being run out on a nightly basis isn't working. They are making mediocre to bad pitcher look like aces.... on a nightly basis.
